AIBU to not be expected to answer emails at the weekend?

Awkward conversation with landlord today. An email was sent on a Friday whilst I was at work. I replied on Monday morning. My landlord seems to think that I should be picking up emails at the weekend. I've firmly said that isn't possible, but now I'm wondering if I'm being unreasonable. I have said that a text message if there is anything urgent would be better as I can quickly respond after work. AIBU to think that I should be able to enjoy my weekend without interference?

I have strict work boundaries and don't reply to work emails at the weekend... but your landlord isn't 'work'. It's your personal life. I'm not saying your landlord is right to expect an immediate answer from you (and it depends what it was about) but your weekend rule is weird for non-work emails.

Which email address does your landlord use? If work, then I agree that you shouldn't be checking them, but you should probably give him your personal email instead.

so if your boiler breaks down…. totally reasonable for LL to be silent because it’s the weekend?

InvestinITMN · 17/07/2024 18:12

of you that is

in the time it has taken you start this thread, you could have messaged the landlord

so after work you’re free to start mumsnet threads but not respond to LL email

InvestinITMN · 17/07/2024 18:11

this seems petty op

InvestinITMN · 17/07/2024 18:11

what was it about?!

If you don’t reply to emails when you’re at work and don’t reply when it’s the weekend, when do you do reply?’

Definitelylivedin · 17/07/2024 18:04

It's your landlord not your boss. Surely you should be replying at the weekend and not during working hours.

ILikeItWhatIsIt · 17/07/2024 18:03

If it was the other way around, would you expect your landlord to reply to you over the weekend?

Screamingabdabz · 17/07/2024 18:03

I think as it’s personal and not ‘work’, then yes, many people attend to life admin at the weekend, but it shouldn’t be expected. People are entitled to a weekend off. I’m not sure either of you unreasonable tbh.

I wouldn't answer work emails at the weekend but any email that concerned my home life, I would.
When would you prefer your landlord to contact you if he/she can't when you're working and can't when you're at home?
