3yo DD keeps saying something really weird

I have a 3 year old (4 in sept) who I shared 50:50 custody with my ex.
she’s started a weird exchange a few times that goes
“hey mummy, guess what”
”what”
”AIDs” then she’ll giggle.
my response is always “that’s an odd thing to say?” Or something similar. Tonight I texted my ex about it and he said “yeah 😂”
turns out he’s been saying it to her? I’ve said I don’t find it appropriate and wouldn’t want her saying it to the childminder or other children. He called me “moral high ground grand wizard” and attacked me basically.
I will say, he’s a teacher, we’re 33. It just seems like such a juvenile joke that isn’t appropriate and is offensive?
was I BU bringing it up? Am I overreacting and this is hilarious?

That's just weird! & him being a Teacher too.

If my Child ever asked us to 'Guess what' we'd answer them 'Tatypot' was just a daft saying we said that we'd all laugh at. Try saying it to your DD when she asks you 'Guess What' it'll not give her the chance to say anything if you reply to her before she says anything.

Your ex hasn’t got any wild ideas about becoming a stand up comic has he.

🤣🤣🤣

I think he had done this exchange with her like
him “ hey DD guess what”
DD “what”
him “AIDS”
because they way she says it is like his “joke voice” in a similar way?

Thanks for explaining, and I can see that this is difficult for you.

I'm just wondering if there's more to this?

If I'd said to any of my kids as toddlers, 'Hey, guess what? AIDS' - they wouldn't have understood a joke? It would just have been a word to them.

You both sound immature. Why are you also teaching your daughter to say silly things?

I think Theres a difference between “trumpaloompa” and “AIDS” but sure.

@nellyroser ok report away.
By the way - I have an autistic 16 year old too so I know plenty about struggles.
I still don't think jokes about AIDS are funny in the slightest though.
(or the "oh so hilarious" laxative story on your other thread)

@nellyroser considering you have started your own thread about the struggle with your 16 year old autistic child who apparently you think you could just "give up for adoption" I am not surprised you think this "joke" is in the slightest funny. You sound like the one that needs to grow up.

Where is the joke in that? What an annoying idiot

Tuliptimes · 18/07/2024 21:22

I’d nip in the bud now. My BIL thought it was hilarious to teach my DD the word ‘loser’ when she was in nursery and my in laws would encourage it by laughing away when she would say it. As is usually the way it was me who got the emails, phone calls, talking tos from the school when she went around calling everyone there a loser and then had to get her out of the habit. Don’t let him use your kid for amusement like this.

PC7102 · 18/07/2024 10:42

AIDS isn’t really something to joke about. He’s definitely been inappropriate saying that in front of her

Luddite26 · 17/07/2024 22:47

I thought about name changing for this but never mind.
Weirdly and we never made sense of it dgs when in year 7 got excluded for shouting that out in a lesson.
Obviously we made sure he knew what a tit he was but I wonder if it has been a thing at any point for these fools

It definitely has because when I was 15/16 the boys I hung around with said this kind of thing
Also horrible things about Madeleine McCann.

WiddlinDiddlin · 18/07/2024 04:20

Ugh.. well he sounds like an epic prick.

Teach her 'Guess What - Chicken Butt'..

Then theres:

Guess Why - Chicken Thigh

Guess When - Chicken Hen

Guess Where - Chicken Hair

Guess Who - Chicken Poo

That's about age appropriate for her... and it seems, him.

It is also really fucking annoying 😆

I don't think I'd be telling my 3 year old any details about what it means tbh. I think 3 is old enough to be upset and disturbed by the thought of people dying, but not old enough to absorb a full explanation that manages any fear it might cause iyswim. I think I'd keep it simple OP with "don't say that DD it's not a nice word or a funny one to anyone but daddy, and daddy is being very silly" and correct her everytime she says it. Unfortunately your hands are tied with regards to what he allows or encourages on his watch if you cant reason with him as an adult. I wish you luck with it, because this is just the start.

This!
and if nursery call you regarding her saying anything inappropriate I would direct them to him and say he’s the dickhead spouting this crap and he might actually listen to them, unfortunately you just got abuse when raising it!

T1Dmama · 17/07/2024 23:35

MoralHighGroundGrandWizard · 16/07/2024 22:25

Might do the joke to him with the condition that killed our son at 6 months in replace of AIDS. See how well that goes down?

Oh goodness! Even more reason for him to know better!!
and sorry for your loss

Clarityiskey · 17/07/2024 23:14

Sorry, fat fingers. Replace u with I!

Clarityiskey · 17/07/2024 23:13

Call me mean, but I'd also let the HT of the school know. If saying this to his own young dd, he is probably saying far worse to tbe pupils. As a HT myself I'd want a quiet word and be reminding him of school's staff code of conduct etc. We have enough problem with teenage boys being badly influenced by the revolting Andrew Tate and others. He needs to be a positive role model, not a duck.

I'm not surprised he's your ex.

SpidersAreShitheads · 17/07/2024 21:05

Hey OP - I just wanted to say that I would totally reclaim the insult aimed in your direction.

Every time I signed off or messaged him, I would refer to myself as "MHGGW". It's such a stupid insult that is totally out of kilter with your very reasonable objection that I'd start using it as my name, just to demonstrate that nothing he says has any power to hurt me. I would find it greatly entertaining to turn his insult back to him in this way. It's a great way to subtly say "fuck you".

Also like the PP suggestion about giving the nursery the heads up. I think a) it's actually really important you get ahead of the game here, nothing worse than them calling you in with a concern or even worse, reporting you to SS and b) if they find his use of this adult phrase concerning, they can then raise an objection.

I would probably also be getting some free legal advice to try and get away from the 50/50 arrangement. It doesn't sound as if it's in the best interests of your DD.

Yougetmoreofwhatyoufocuson · 17/07/2024 20:21

Maybe you could teach her to swap AIDS for ED. He might find it less hilarious.
