I was a little bit shocked to see them gathering round him putting themselves in the line of fire like that. Would that happen in this country? Never seen anything like it before and not sure how I feel about it.

They definitely wear vests, a former secret service officer was interviewed on the Beeb and he confirmed that.

ZenNudist · 14/07/2024 22:09

They don't want to die but the very fact they do this deters attackers.

Yes, this is the aspect that I'm astounded by.

How was anyone able to get up on a roof within range of readily available weapons???

Makes no sense whatsoever.

MoonlightFarrow · 14/07/2024 22:05

That’s their job - they put themselves in the line of fire. And yes, that would happen in this country.

motleymop · 14/07/2024 22:03

Not answering the question, but to say that I thought they looked a bit rubbish - not at all slick and sexy like Kevin Costner 😅
I suppose the reality is nothing like Hollywood!!

hari27 · 14/07/2024 22:01

They have vests as others have said.

The bigger question here is why did it happen?

what on earth were the security doing.

the interview with the bystander is everywhere. He alerted them and none of them cared.

any one of us asked to identify a security issue would have said a roof.

BMW6 · 14/07/2024 22:01

That just shows that Trump didn't follow protocol and the training he has had.

Not the SS fault that he didn't. He just seized the opportunity to big himself up in the eyes of the voters.

Brave or craven.........???

RitaIncognita · 14/07/2024 21:54

When President Kennedy was shot, one of Vice-President Johnson's agents pushed him to the floor of the limo and lay on top of him as a human shield. As so many posters have said, that's what they do. That's their job.

crumpet · 14/07/2024 21:43

Regan’s security were also injured (amongst others) when he was shot.

Aww, The Bodyguard. I will always love youuuuuuu ❤️
One of Trump’s female bodyguards, the one who had trouble putting her firearm away, defo seemed to be wearing a white bullet proof vest.
I’m all for equality but I’d want big burly bodyguards, preferably looking like Kevin Costner.
I think the Princess of Wales has a female bodyguard though.

ColinMyWifeBridgerton · 14/07/2024 21:14

It's a good thing bodyguards exist. They protect democracy. Otherwise it would be much too easy to go around killing candidates.

DogInATent · 14/07/2024 21:04

Toddlerteaplease · 14/07/2024 20:39

Didn't Princess Anne's bodyguard take one for her once?

He took three.

JanglyBeads · 14/07/2024 21:00

This is interesting......

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/07/2024 20:57

I did think they did really well to cover him, he kept popping up to make sure everyone could see him. Daft Don.

maddiemookins16mum · 14/07/2024 20:52

The clue is in the name - Body Guard (and they have vests on).

helpfulperson · 14/07/2024 20:47

I was surprised by how many of them were women. There was the obvious women in front of him but when they get him into the car you can see at least four, possibly more of them were.

Overtheatlantic · 14/07/2024 20:42

They were protecting his body but he put his head up. Idiot:

Toddlerteaplease · 14/07/2024 20:39

FannyFifer · 14/07/2024 18:45

Yes, it would be the same here, it's literally their job to potentially take a bullet to protect the person they are guarding.

The Regan assassination attempt footage kept popping up today. They looked more organised than Trumps Protection team did 😕.

Regan was more badly injured, so didn't really have much of a choice. Although I think he'd have been keener to follow the Secret Service instructions than the TSG.

Trump looked for the photo op once it was confirmed that the shooter was dead. You can see there was a slight delay as they readied to move him off, and he made the most of it to stand up for the cameras.

I can’t imagine my 20-year old buying a rifle just because he can. It’s so wrong and so sick. Sick country to allow this to happen. But no doubt Trump fans will use this as an excuse to buy even more weapons. It’s way too late for them to stop the craziness.

misssunshine4040 · 14/07/2024 20:35

Watch the clip of King Charles assassination attempt in Sydney in the 80's where his bodyguard jumped in front of him.

Im sorry but I don't believe anyone is naive enough to think that bodyguards are there to risk their lives.

What do you think the armed forces do?

DogInATent · 14/07/2024 20:34

boxwithacat · 14/07/2024 19:50

You should stream Bodyguard with Kevin Costner & Whitney Houston tonight OP 😄

Add to that..

  • In The Line of Fire, Clint Eastwood
  • The Sentinel, Keifer Sutherland and Michael Douglas
  • Guarding Tess, Nicholas Cage and Shirley MacLaine

Where you trying to make this a trump bashing thread? About how he expects the lowly staff to die for him? Because this is, I think, the only thing he cannot be criticised for. It’s the exact same for anyone who hires bodyguards or works in government, in any country, and is given protection officers. When there is a threat, they surround and out their bodies between their client and harm. This has nothing to do with Trump, and would have been the same for anyone else.

take a chill pill
