Wearing a skimpy bikini around teenage son

I'm late 40's and have recently lost alot of weight. I have treated myself to some new bikinis for an upcoming beach holiday and some are thong styles. I did originally buy the thong ones for when me and DH go away later in the year alone. But every holiday I go on abroad there is so many people younger and older than me showing all their bums! When I was a teen it was rare, but not anymore. Just not sure I'm brave enough or if it would be a massive no with adult/teen children! Wwyd?

I'm currently in the South of France, we're at anchor and there's a couple of guys completely naked on the back of their boat not far from us. One is standing hand on hip leaning against the transom, as if it's completely normal, having a chat with his friends. 🤣 I'd be opting for the thong, at least you'll have some dignity.

I don’t like the thong bikini look, never have, never will, so I wouldn’t. But that’s not because of my kids or what others might think, it’s because I think they look utterly ridiculous.

@Dynamitepussycat
Er because they cover our pubic area, vulvas and butt holes? Just like all swimwear does.
What a very weird statement you made.

I'm amazed you aren't calling for burkini to be mandatory

Yeah this, put it better than I did!

ShallWeGoToTheFirepit · 15/07/2024 09:57

@Dynamitepussycat

It would be very difficult to get a vagina out, unless you have some sort of grade A prolapse.

You mean vulva, don't you?

If you're uncomfortable seeing someone's arse then you really need to get out more and put down the rosary beads.

Why don’t we just get our vaginas out as well eh?? In fact I don’t even know why you thing bikini wearers even bother with clothes at all 🤷🏽‍♀️

Dynamitepussycat · 14/07/2024 16:05

Hanging out and it make people feel uncomfortable. Everyone is staring at your arse particularly men btw! So why would you wear this at any age? And even more so why would you wear this around your child? Do not subject your son to this misery. It’s practically child abuse 🤣

I'm on a beach in Italy right now, loads of people have them on ...all ages......all shapes and sizes ...nobody cares

I’m in Greece right now and it’s exactly the same.

I have my thong bikini on and I’m neither uncomfortable nor self-conscious. I do it because it looks great (I have a pert, barre-toned arse) and I prefer the tan lines of a skimpy bikini.

This thread is hilarious and so at odds with what one sees when holidaying anywhere on the Med. No cringing teenagers here.

*and no, I’m not in my 20s/part of the ‘Tik Tok’ generation and nor are 80% of the other thong bikini wearers here

Exactly. Live life for yourself. Your happiness is paramount

Right, so if your mind is made up that wearing a thong bikini on a family holiday is totally fine then why are you posting asking for perspectives?
Huh?
I'm not asking for anything. I'm just joining in on a thread.
Are you ok?

Who cares

Thongs look good on no-one.

Honestly, you could have the most perfect figure in the world but you'll be sitting and moving your barely covered arse hole all over the public chairs and sun loungers! 🤮

Not sure how your teenage son will feel, but I would've given my mum a very wide berth if she'd worn one.

This🤣🤣🤣
i have just returned from a family holiday at a family resort and where there were a few mum wearing thong bikinis.
I am no prude but people strolling about in these with their butts hang

Castlerock44 · 12/07/2024 15:11

I really don't understand why any one would want to wear one. It can't be for comfort so its got to be about wanting people to look at you. I just wonder if the people who wear them think they look sexy, far from it.

They aren’t uncomfortable to wear. No different to thong underwear.

I sometimes wear them on occasions where I would normally be naked but somebody is likely to turn up, or has already turned up.

I wear them for modesty, nothing to do with looking sexy or wanting people to look at me. Quite the opposite.

in your opinion. You cannot speak for everyone

ShallWeGoToTheFirepit · 14/07/2024 13:28

I think there's a really sad that so many posters have said 'my teenagers are embarrassed by my existence' 'my teenagers are embarrassed by me breathing,' like this is not something to be proud of, or to say like it's a good thing.

I wasn't embarrassed about my parents existence as a teenager, and I'm not that long out of those years myself. I would be mortified if my DD was embarrassed or my existence.

I respect that my parents are who they are. They can wear what they want and do what they please. If that's holidaying on a beautiful beach in Europe, so be it. If that's mum wearing a thing bikini and topless (which she has, countless times, and still does) then so be it.

We shouldn't be bowing down to these teenagers who are disrespectful enough to be embarrassed by their parents existence. It doesn't show the right message, at all.

Personally I most favour a skimpy but not thong bikini bottom. I generally find smaller pants more flattering and butt enhancing over full coverage.
I find in a bigger fuller coverage bikini bottom my arse just looks wider and more expansive. The bigger piece of fabric just makes my butt look wider and less the way I want it to look

In a smaller pair the width is split up and I find it makes my buttocks look rounder.
I obviously can't find exactly the same picture with two different pants on but the photos below show what I mean. Both are slim models with lovely figures.
I personally feel the full coverage just makes butts look bigger as there is a big expanse of material. So I prefer to wear the small style.

There are options in a middle ground.

I wouldn't strut around in a thong underwear at home in front of the kids. But then I wouldn't strut around in ANY underwear in front of my kids. Even massive pants. Does this mean I shouldn't wear ANY type of bikini on holiday?

If one of my kids walked in to my bathroom whilst I was wearing a thong, I would probably raise an eyebrow and ask why they didn't knock. They would sheepishly apologise and then carry on asking me whatever it was they wanted. No one would be particularly embarrassed. It's not like I would be bending over gyrating and grinding.

I would happily walk around the house in a sexy dress if I was wearing it out and if my kids saw me none of us would bat an eyelid. Why would they? If I was wearing a sexy dress out for the evening why would I worry about my kids seeing me in it? I guess it depends what you mean by sexy dress. I don't wear dresses with holes cut out where my boobs are. I'm really not sure what you are trying to suggest.

Your logic is senseless.

Right, so if your mind is made up that wearing a thong bikini on a family holiday is totally fine then why are you posting asking for perspectives?

Go ahead and parade around on your family hols with your ar$e out.

Regarding my logic: it is not whether your kids see you in a sexy dress that is the issue, it’s the type of occasion you choose to wear it to. People wear sexy dresses on nights out, not to family dinners. The analogy being that people wear sexy bikinis on holidays that aren’t family ones. But apparently that’s not you 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hey, why not go a step further and parade your buttocks at your local council pool?

(Full disclosure: I have worn thong bikinis on hols with the girls. I’m young and have a great body. I would never dress like this on family hols, and my child is too little to be able to form an opinion on the matter. It’s about having a bit of class and decorum, which is far more attractive than anything else.)

CrowleyKitten · 13/07/2024 23:56

I wouldn't wear a thong full stop, but if you'd wear it to a public swimming pool, around total strangers, it's acceptable to wear around your family.

Less harmful by far than using inappropriate language in a post
