I understand this isn't for everyone but I love a good woo story. Even if you've seen/experienced something but aren't 100% sure and are on the fence, I'd love to hear your stories.

I've had a few experiences myself, nothing majorly scary just in my old house I'd often hear loud clear footsteps when nobody could be there and often saw a shadow figure, sometimes right infront of me and other times in my peripheral so can understand why people think they've seen something but can't be sure. I also worked in a pub that had some poltergeist type activity and various figures had been seen by staff and customers. I'd love to hear yours!

Before I had my own kids, I had this weird ability to predict if pregnant women were going to have a boy or a girl. I was never wrong a single time, and it worked for both women I knew and for famous women. I predicted that Jennifer Lopez was going to have boy-girl twins before anyone knew she was having twins.

Then when my own kids were born, I couldn’t do it anymore. I used to just have a feeling when I found out someone was pregnant, but the feelings stopped…

Only now I think they might be coming back. I have a very clear feeling that Justin and Hailey Bieber are going to have a little girl.

@Changethetune I’m not sure if it’s because I have my own DD who has been in and out of hospital due to a condition she’s had for a couple of years but that story about your friend and the rocking horse has gave me chills…..🫣

GandDiva · 06/07/2024 19:01

I went to visit my ex's GM. Drove past her living room window and saw another elderly lady sat at the far end of the room. I parked up and walked in and their was only GM sat there. I asked if she'd had any other visitors and she said not for a couple of days. It was so real!
About a week later, GM died unexpectedly. At her wake I was telling a family friend about this experience and they said I'd described GM sister down to a T and she used to sit in the seat I'd seen her in. She'd died years earlier!

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 06/07/2024 18:51

@Minimili I’m sure I could smell my dad’s cancer too. Would walk into the sitting room he had been sat in and there was a peculiar sweet smell, like he was chewing sweets, pear drops. It was only him in there and he never ate in the sitting room (neither did me or DM).
He hadn’t yet been diagnosed and wasn’t having treatment. He passed away from pancreatic cancer a few months later.

Wow @CorvusPurpureus !

CorvusPurpureus · 06/07/2024 18:14

I've told this one on here before...

When I met dh1, he had a rather elaborately silver framed photograph of himself on the mantelpiece in his flat.

I was curious (well, tbh I took the piss) as a) dh1 was not really a 'framed photos of self' sort of a chap. Dog-eared band flyers blutacked to the walls was more his style & b) it wasn't the sort of picture you'd expect - it was in a very graduation/wedding type frame, but in the photo, dh1, aged about 19-20, is at a rock festival, wearing a Sisters of Mercy t-shirt & ripped jeans, & grinning into the camera, fag in one hand, plastic pint of cider in the other...

Anyway, he explained that his db took the photo, & his dm loved it (it was genuinely a great photo of him) so distributed framed copies to every granny & auntie she could think of. Then one of them died, & dh1 ended up with her copy as literally every family member who might have wanted one, already had one.

Fair enough! Photo followed us around through various flat & house moves, always ending up on a shelf somewhere.

Then dh1 died in a stupid drunken accident.

We were pretty much done by then - I loved him, but he had his demons & was impossible to live with.

The photo carried on following me around, from house to house, even though it pre-dated our meeting by a few years & even when I subsequently re-married. It was just such a nice image of dh1 - so it was always, still, on a shelf somewhere.

It was YEARS later when I was packing for a house move & suddenly noticed a minor detail in the background - I must have had the photo 20 years by then & hadn't clocked it.

There are quite a few people behind dh1, because it was taken at a huge music festival.

Two of them are teenage girls, backs to the camera, sitting on a blanket. One has waist length bright red hair, one has backcombed black hair a la Siouxsie, & both are wearing VERY 80s band t-shirts.

The redhead is my then best friend. The black haired girl is me.

GreatSquareNova · 06/07/2024 16:41

I dreamed that my friend, who was due to give birth in two weeks, was in labour. I called her mobile and her mum picked it up and called me a witch because yes, she was at hospital having her baby! 😂

Tellmeyourwoostories · 06/07/2024 16:32

@OneTC that is weird! I've had a few freaky experiences myself of weird coincidences/synchronicity. Like not thinking of someone/seeing them for years, suddenly out of nowhere they come up in your mind and shortly after I hear from them.

OP posts:
OneTC · 06/07/2024 16:19

Not really woo but a freaky coincidence.

I was once driving very late in the peak district and came across a guy walking down a really narrow track with no torch so stopped and asked him if he needed a lift into town. I've never picked up any one before or even felt vaguely inclined to.

He gladly accepted, jumped in, gave him a run down into town, dropped him off and thought nothing more.

2 weeks later I was at a party in London and a friend introduced me to his mate, and it was the guy I gave a lift to

Did an ouija board by myself when I was about 13. It told me when and how I'd die. Hope to fuck I was moving it in some way.

Well, we did them all the time when babysitting in our teens, and both my teenage best friend and I have long outlived our ouija-predicted death dates, so I wouldn't lose any sleep over yours.

BirthdayRainbow · 06/07/2024 15:22

@mondaytosunday a ghost wanting your kids to get along? A metaphorical banging of their heads together.

Changethetune · 06/07/2024 07:38

A group of us from work decided to go to a psychic evening. None of us were particularly expecting great things from the event and the first couple of people came out of their reading rolling their eyes and saying there was nothing of interest to report. I felt the same after my turn. The psychic was insistent that I’d lost someone ‘on the docks, twice’, which meant nothing to me and although we live near to a major port, I thought this was just a case of the woman putting out some ‘facts’ in the hope that I’d leap to find a connection.
Years later I was researching my family tree and discovered that everything she’d told me was true! My great grandfather died in an accident on the docks and the date of his death was the same as my birthday (albeit decades apart), which was exactly what the psychic said. A year later, his father, my great, great grandfather was found dead in a nightwatchman’s hut on the dockside - so this was the ‘twice’ she’d mentioned.
Another one, but not mine. A friend was a nurse all her working life and the least woo person you could meet. She told me that she had once worked in a children’s hospital and on one ward, there was a rocking horse that had been donated some years earlier. It was well accepted among the nursing staff that if the horse started to rock on its own, there would be a death on the ward that night.

mondaytosunday · 06/07/2024 07:30

I'm pretty sceptical but yesterday something happened which I'm trying to rationalise.
I'm on holiday at a home my deceased parents built on the ruins of an older home. We've had it for decades nothing 'woo' ever.
There are multiple doors to the outside and with the winds you have to prop open the internal doors (or make sure they are firmly shut) otherwise they bang shut (it's half way up a mountain with sea on one side so wind can whip around). It's not constant (no wind at all currently).
Yesterday I was in my DD's room talking about her brother who she is having a hard time getting along with - they are 19 and 20. It was not the time she was most upset we were just following up on an earlier talk. The door to the hall was closed but her door to outside was open. Suddenly the door to the hall swung open (quite possible I hadn't shut it properly) and banged shut, then swung open hit the wall and banged shut several times very rapidly, the last time with such force it broke the light switch plate with the handle (which it does connect to due to poor placement).
Having the door slam shut (if it was open) is not unusual at all. Having it repeatedly go 'slam slam slam' was well odd. In fact it only stopped because my sister walked by and caught it. It really went from slamming shut to slamming against the wall back and forth for three/four times. I was really odd. I can't see how the wind made this happen so fast and repeatedly with such force. Normally if a door is slammed shut and doesn't quite 'catch', it then slowly opens due to the vacuum and then the wind will eventually slam it shut again. But that could take some time. Odd.

Tellmeyourwoostories · 06/07/2024 05:03

That's a good selection of stories there @Tarkan. I'm always hearing stories about York, I remember as a child having a ghost book and it mentioned the Roman soldiers matching through that cellar infront of that worker. I know what you mean RE not feeling welcome in a room and that horrible feeling of being watched.

@SingingSands wow what a sweet story 🥹 I bet that brought you lots of comfort and made you feel happy you'll get to see DDog again one day. Sorry for your loss, your DDog clearly loved you and you meant a lot to him😊

@ADHDGURL @SingingSands what lovely albeit sad stories.
An animal's love and loyalty is a very pure thing, to my mind.
I wish humans cared for each other the way dogs care for their humans.

SingingSands · 06/07/2024 00:45

@ADHDGURL that is so lovely and I absolutely believe he was saying goodbye to you because I had a similar experience when I was a teenager...

Every summer holiday my brother and I would spend a week with our cousins at our Grandmother's house. It gave us kids a chance to be together (we lived at opposite sides of the country) and I guess it gave our parents a lovely break and helped with summer childcare!

One year, I had a very vivid dream about our family dog. I dreamt we were running along our favourite beach together. When we reached the dunes at the end he turned and said "you can't come with me, I have to go on my own now". Then he ran up the dunes, paused and looked down at me once, before running off over the machair into the distance. I felt sad in the dream that I couldn't follow him. I wanted to but knew he had to go on ahead without me. Then I woke up.

The next day, my Dad came to collect my brother and I and drove us home. I walked into the house and clearly heard DDog's usual bark of greeting coming from the kitchen (his usual spot was in front of the Aga!). I shouted back to him but my mum pulled me into the living room, dad and brother joined us and dad explained very gently that DDog had died the day before. I remember saying "but I just heard him" but my brother (and parents) had all burst into noisy sobs so nobody heard me.

I know that my dream was DDog saying goodbye. He was six months older than I was, he had been my best friend for 13 years and I am so honoured he visited me to say goodbye. He was old and frail by the time he died and it felt so joyful in the dream to be running with him as he was in his prime, all sleek and glossy and full of energy ❤️

Tarkan · 06/07/2024 00:16

I've mentioned a good few of my experiences before so I'll try not to make this too long with them all.

I lost two friends within around a year and a half in my late teens to different illnesses. Shortly after the second one I was lying in my bed crying and I felt someone grab my wrist and whisper in my ear. It sounded like "dorkus" which tbh was possible from one of them but then I wondered if it was "don't cry" then my name when starts with an S. Probably was just me being called a dorkus tbh. 🤣

Early on in my relationship with DH he had gone to work and I was lying in bed with the whole place to myself and I felt someone sit on the end of the bed. DH told me later that his DM had passed away suddenly in that room many years before we met. Another person had died in that same house in a fire years before his parents moved there and I often could smell burning in the hallway when everything was fine.

On our honeymoon in York, DH and I walked into the Golden Fleece. I wanted to go just because of the rumours of it being haunted but I didn't experience anything. DH who didn't believe in anything like that did though. We had walked through the front area to the back bar which was the only section open, we weren't sure where we were going and I can have anxiety about being in a building for the first time so DH said "why don't we ask the staff member at the front". He didn't believe me when I said there hadn't been a staff member there as he swears he saw someone dressed in black moving between the tables.

I volunteer in wardrobe in a local theatre and a couple of times I've been alone and walked into a room and felt like I was disturbing something. One time was during a show after party and I went to put something away and it really felt like I wasn't welcome that time. I've also had clothes in the perfect size on a high bar fall down towards me when I've been searching for something and been through many others that weren't the right size.

I also was once backstage and I was the only person in that area. I saw a man walk across where our workshop area is. I went down to see who was there and there wasn't anyone.

And I've just had another weird moment while I was writing about my MIL sitting on the bed. I'm in the living room and the big light is on as I've been working but there's also a tall lamp just to my left. As I was typing I saw the lamp turn itself off and I was cursing that I would probably need to go get a new lightbulb for it. And that's when I noticed it wasn't plugged in. It's in a corner of the room by itself with nothing near it, no glass fronted pictures or anything so it wasn't a reflection from another light.

SingingSands · 05/07/2024 23:51

When we were kids, my brother and I snuck out of our shared bedroom to raid the biscuit tin. It was pitch dark and our cottage was in a very, very old spooky part of an island, next to a very old distillery. No streetlights, just the fields and the distillery and the sea. We climbed up onto the kitchen counter to open the cupboard where the tin was when suddenly outside the were these bright lights, like balls of light, or lanterns, dancing in front of the window. That's the only way I can describe them: dancing balls of light.

We absolutely shot off the worktop, straight back into our bedroom and hid together under the covers in my bed.

This was in the early '80s and I can still remember it so clearly.

Samthedog71717 · 05/07/2024 23:02

I used to work in a National Trust property. It was s cotton mill. I worked in the cafe. Where the food was kept had previously been a weaving shed. It had chest freezers in rows but was light and airy and spare plates on open shelves On more than one occasion I would be leaning over to get some plates or wine glasses and I'd see movement or feel my apron being pulled. On one occasion I saw a small child scurry over the floor in older style clothing, reach for something and disappear. I later found that they used to use children in the weaving sheds to clear bits and pieces from under the machines. They often lost limbs and their lives. It freaked me out.

Lot's of woo experiences..but the sweetest one is a dream I had about Badger the dog. He used to come running with me and his owner..the most lovely border collie, when I couldn't keep up he would wait for me till we caught up with my running partner.
We hadn't run for a while due to life events, I was away on a course when I dreamed of Badger, he was waiting for me to catch up, nuzzled me and disappeared.
The following week I was at work and my running partner wife who worked 1 day a week was in..I enthusiastically asked her about Badger and recounted my dream.. she teared up... he was PTS the previous week due to illness, he came to me to say goodbye. Such pure love ❤️. RIP Badger.. 🙏

This isn't my story as such, but my ex's

He met and married a lady, she had two girls and they wanted their own baby

They tried and tried-no luck

He happened to go and see a psychic and she told him that there was a lady (and then described his late granny) who was holding a baby in a blue blanket

She wasn't ready to let him go just yet,but she would when the time was right

She added this baby would be his first and last, but his wife would go on to have another baby and that baby would be 'a pink one'

He scoffed-theyd been trying for over 5 years at this point

A year to the day later, the wife says she feels sick-and they did a test

Pregnant!scan shows a boy

A smooth pregnancy,a little lad born and all was well, until he was about 5 and the marriage fell apart

She met another man and fell pregnant with a girl

When the son was about 7ish,he turned to his father and said 'I loved being with granny, but she said I had to come and live with you-youd look after me' (he'd never been told about the psychic)

I remember my ex telling me all this-he couldn't explain it at all-he was the least woo man I've ever met

Minimili · 04/07/2024 21:52

I’ve had a few strange experiences and I find them unsettling because I’m quite skeptical of things with no proof, I’ve tried to find rational explanations though and I can’t 🤷🏼‍♀️.

These are just a few…

My mum was dying of cancer and my dad had passed away a few years before. She was heavily sedated with morphine and kept talking to someone we couldn’t see and asking “Who is that man?” It was really unsettling.
She carried on fighting for hours and I stayed by her bedside but had been awake for 26 hours, my sister was there as well but then she went to check on something quickly at home a mile away.

It was the weekend and my mum was at home and we were waiting for hospital staff to come but in the end it was just me and her, suddenly the cat jumped into the bed and settled on her chest, then the whole room filled with the smell of my dads aftershave. He wore Rive Gauce and I had to order it online for his birthday every year as it was hard to find in shops. It was so recognisable and the smell was so strong. The smell got stronger and when my mum took her last breaths the smell faded away.
I find it comforting to think that my dad came for her. I’m not sure who the man was but my sister always believed it was my mums dad who died when she was young so she didn’t recognise him.

I was at work on nights working as a support worker in supported living, there were two of us and when everyone was asleep we took it in turns to have a few hours sleep each.
I had the most distinctive dream that I was standing under the nights sky that was filled with stars, I was with my partner and best friend and her children and we were stood on her street by the street lights looking up and waiting. I was holding hands with my partner and my friend was hugging her children.
It was so real and we were expecting something bad to happen that we’d been warned about, I will never forget the absolute terror of that dream and my colleague had to wake me as I was shaking and crying.
I couldn’t shake off the feeling of pure panic and fear so I googled the dream. I found other people had mentioned having almost exactly the same dream with the same feeling of fear and waiting for something to happen.
I know it’s common to have similar dreams that are usually anxiety related like teeth falling out or being in public naked, I find it very creepy though that other people had the same unusual dream and were as disturbed by it. I find it hard to even think about it now!

This is a bit unrelated but I have been able to smell cancer on some people. I smelt it on my dad to start with and a nurse on the cancer ward said she has realised she could recognise it too.
When my mum had the same smell I was insistent she got checked out, the doctor refused to send her for tests but I wouldn’t leave the surgery till she did. I told the doctor about it and she didn’t believe me but after my mum died she said she’d looked into it and apparently some people can pick up on a certain smell but it’s not scientifically proven that humans can smell it, she believed me though that I had been able to smell it on my mum.
I smelt it on a friend and felt so uncomfortable telling her in case she didn’t believe me, it’s lucky I did as she had cervical cancer but it was luckily caught early and she’s absolutely fine now.

I’ve smelled it on strangers before and never know if I should say something, it’s not just something you can come out with but I often wonder if they know they have it or not.
The saddest was a few years ago I was sat next to a young woman at a train station in the waiting room, she was pregnant with a toddler and there was no way I could have just told her something like that in the brief time we were waiting and she had her child with her. I think about her a lot though and hope she’s ok, hopefully with her being pregnant it was detected early and she’s happy with her two kids.

I looked it up online and a lot of other people have said similar but it says it’s not possible for humans to smell the actual cancer but it’s to do with the treatment. That would make sense but my mum and my friend weren’t having treatment and had no symptoms. Maybe one day it’ll be proven that humans actually can pick up the scent as well. I would be so happy never to smell it again.

A few weeks ago I couldn't sleep so I went into another bedroom at around 4am so as not to disturb DH. I was lying on my front trying to sleep and I felt the duvet being pulled off the bed then hands around my neck trying to strangle me. I had a weird mind over matter sleepy chat with myself (them?) and it stopped. I thought nothing of it and just assumed it was some trying-to-sleep nightmare. But about 4 days later I received an email from a relative (I am estranged from all of the others) to tell me my step-father had died unexpectedly 4 days ago. I wasn't given any further detail and I didn't ask because the last time I saw him 15 years ago he had tried to strangle me.

Bloody hell! That must've been horrific.

I often get the feeling of someone sitting themselves down at the end of my bed. If someone told me that happened to them, I'd be terrified, but when it happens to me, I'm not spooked. I just accept it and go back to sleep.

I hear my name being shouted when I'm out & about on my own, and it sometimes sounds like my mum. I heard it the other day, but there was no-one around.

Some time ago, maybe a couple of years, I woke up to see a hologram of DP, who works away. It was absolutely him and I was definitely awake. He was psychedelic in colour. He didn't say a word, just stood there. I wasn't scared, just confused, as I know I was awake. Actually, I found it comforting.
