I understand this isn't for everyone but I love a good woo story. Even if you've seen/experienced something but aren't 100% sure and are on the fence, I'd love to hear your stories.

I've had a few experiences myself, nothing majorly scary just in my old house I'd often hear loud clear footsteps when nobody could be there and often saw a shadow figure, sometimes right infront of me and other times in my peripheral so can understand why people think they've seen something but can't be sure. I also worked in a pub that had some poltergeist type activity and various figures had been seen by staff and customers. I'd love to hear yours!

A few weeks ago I couldn't sleep so I went into another bedroom at around 4am so as not to disturb DH. I was lying on my front trying to sleep and I felt the duvet being pulled off the bed then hands around my neck trying to strangle me. I had a weird mind over matter sleepy chat with myself (them?) and it stopped. I thought nothing of it and just assumed it was some trying-to-sleep nightmare. But about 4 days later I received an email from a relative (I am estranged from all of the others) to tell me my step-father had died unexpectedly 4 days ago. I wasn't given any further detail and I didn't ask because the last time I saw him 15 years ago he had tried to strangle me.

😱
Sweet Mother.

Oh, we really really wanted to believe me. Grown ups are boring though lol 😆

Always happy to tell my ghost stories 😊

My first full apparition was when I was around 10 or 11.

This is in the 70s. My parents were divorced, my SD was new on the scene and we lived with my Nana. For about three summers it became a thing that my parents would pack me and my Nana off to stay with my cousins in Scotland at the beginning of the school holidays. My Aunt (Mum's sister) had recently remarried a chap with a well paid job and they had bought a big slightly dilapidated house outside Edinburgh in a village. In residence were his three children - two late teen girls and his son who was the same sort of age bracket as me and my two blood cousins, a girl and a boy. We were all aged between 9 - 12.

The house did come with a ghost story which fascinated us no end. The locals claimed that in Victorian times the Master if the house had an affair with the maid (of course) and then murdered her and bricked her up in the dining room cupboard.

The walls of this house were very thick, and each room had a built in cupboard that was quite deep and had a solid back....except in the dining-room which had a cupboard half the depth with a wooden back covered in old wall-paper. Obviously the grown ups scoffed and ridiculed our fascination with the story and refused to investigate the mysterious cupboard.

So the sleeping arrangements were that my two male cousins had a big bedroom together, and I was in with my female cousin in a dressing room off this bedroom that could only be accessed through it.

My blood cousin was away for some reason, which was handy as when I developed a raging stomach bug - probably food poisoning - my female cousin was put in to the big room with my other cousin while I was isolated in the dressing room on the bottom of the bunk beds just in case it was something contagious.

All the rooms had big sash windows, and wooden shutters which were too rickety to use, and as the house was being renovated, there weren't any curtains which wasn't a problem as the location wasn't overlooked and was pretty rural.

I clearly remember waking up because someone was tucking me in. I felt the mattress lift slightly as someone tucked the blankets in tightly, I felt my pillows being adjusted, and was then affectionately patted. Now fully awake, I turned my head as I was facing the wall, in time to see a figure going through the door. There was moonlight and I was able to see pale hair and the shape of a woman. I assumed it was my Nana, who had white hair, thought no more of it and went back to sleep.

The next morning when Nana came in to check on me I said "I woke up when you came in last night," and she denied she'd been in. My Aunt, who was dark haired, also denied coming in, and so did my older teenage cousins. Obviously it wasn't likely to have been my younger cousins. Part of the rationale for no-one coming in during the night was that the floorboards and doors were creaky and no-one wanted to disturb sleeping children (plus an element of benign neglect as it was the 70s lol).

Everyone was adamant it was a hallucination brought on by my stomach upset but I swear I was fully awake and it was physical sensations that woke me. Even in later years the family stuck to their position that no-one had been in during the night.

So I was tucked in by a very benign ghost apparently..... and perhaps the pale hair was actually the mob cap of a sadly murdered maid.....

My grandmothers died a month apart at the start of 2020. They both regularly visited me in dreams and told me they were fine, which was comforting.

I work in a very old school; odd things happen all the time. I've heard my name being called when no one was there; heard crying coming from a room very early one morning when I was unlocking when no one else was around. My most recent one was seeing a little girl out of the corner of my eye in the corridor, I was carrying a large box and I said ' whoops, sorry!' As I went past her as I thought I'd nearly hit her with the box. Turned to look fully and there was no one there.

I also used to regularly see a cat coming down the stairs in our house for a while after we moved in.

My mother died when I was pregnant. When my little girl was two we went out early to pick up groceries. She had some cereal in the car to eat for the journey. When I stopped at the traffic lights I could hear her taking. “One for me, one for my mum’s name”.

Rhaidimiddim · 04/07/2024 19:31

One incident that I still don't know what to make of happened at a London hospital. I was booked in for an early morning operation, so stayed in the hospital in a private room the night before.

I was woken up ridiculously early the next morning - 4 - 4:30 a.m. The nurse came in, switched the side lights on and told me that they'de be ready for me soon. We had a short convo about getting ready for them to haul me off, she did somethung with the door locks rhat needed to be loosened to let a trolley bed be moved about, then was gone.

I cleaned my teeth, got into the gown, had a wee.... and sat and waited.

About two hours later a different nurse can in, and was surprised to see me already up and ready. By this time I was a bit miffed at having been woken so unnecessarily early, and made a mild complaint to that effect.

She said that, as far as she was cincerned, hers was my wake-up call. She asked me when the earlier nurse had arrived, what she looked like, what she had said, and said she'd look into it for me.

Later that day she popped back to tell me she'd checked whatever ward notes there were, asked around for someone who matched the description I'd given of the nurse, but found no-one recognised the individual and there was no record of anyone sent to wake me that early.

I've had a few spooky things happen including "seeing ghosts" but the weirdest one was really mundane yet extremely unsettling.

I had a Saturday job in a framing business on an industrial estate, so it was a big two storey modern unit.

The owner also used it to run a side gig selling badminton shuttles as he ran a local club, and they were kept upstairs on big metal shelves near the framing mouldings and mitre machinery.

My job was to do framing assembly, deal with customers picking up framing, and also sell tubes of shuttles if any of the badminton players wanted them. I was there on my own mostly.

One Saturday a chap came in wanting particular shuttles so I schlepped up the stairs and could see on the floor in front of the shelves a large shuttle box rocking silently from side to side. I stopped dead and slowly it settled down and was still. I rationalised that it was empty and must have fallen off the shelves perhaps due to the vibration of me coming up the stairs so went over to it - to discover it was full of tubes of shuttles and I couldn't lift it - it was waist high and about 2 feet square if you see what I mean. I couldn't even replicate it rocking without making a hell of a racket and putting in considerable effort, yet it hadn't been making any noise when I first saw it.

I grabbed the shuttles I needed and flew down to the customer and explained what had happened as I was pretty freaked out and the customer obviously thought I was mad as he left in record time.

It was the most mundane, inconsequential thing but it made me feel really uneasy. I used to sometimes hear what sounded like footsteps above me when I was there on my own but rationalised it as the creaking of the building. It was worse just seeing the box rocking fully from side to side in silence....

That is incredibly weird ontop of not wanting to seem crazy to the customer at what you saw. Would love to hear your other stories of seeing ghosts if you feel comfortable to?

Definitely! I'm up for any kind of woo stories. That sounds chilling, especially being in a car and feeling chased. I bet you're glad you didn't have one of those ghost running out infront of you driving experiences.

Noooo I think I would die of fright if a ghost ran out in front of me

My incident happened over 40 years ago and I still bottle it every time we go near the road.

Tittyfilarious · 04/07/2024 17:07

I've got 1 from when I was 16 that's saved mine and my now dh life . We had to go pick something up 1 night in the winter for my dh dad . We were in the car going and near to the bridge you cross that's controlled by lights there's another set of lights with a pedestrian crossing. We stopped at the pedestrian crossing and it was on the green man even though was absolutely nobody near by but it stayed on longer than normal too . We set off and the light was just going to green for the bridge as we approached it . A car shot over the bridge that fast that if we'd have been waiting to go he'd have hit us head on and killed us but Instead he ended up swerving and going into the grass. I'm convinced someone was looking over us that night a few seconds earlier we'd have been killed

Road near where I used to live. Driven down it about a dozen times

Late one night, quite good moonlight whilst driving on my own I irrationally became terrified. Thought something was chasing me

Now I cannot go near that road, even in daylight.

Fortunately I live couple of hundred miles away but whenever we visit relatives we have to avoid it.

Don't know if that's the kind of woo you're looking for

Me. When I was about 4 or 5.

I kept hearing 'Shhhh' when I was putting my stuff away (I had just had a telling off from my mum to tidy my room!)

I thought I was hearing something but then it got louder, right up to my ear. A definite 'SHHH!'

I was petrified and run out. I never went into that bedroom again. Ever. I still remember the fear.

We moved house about a year later. I slept with my mum the entire time before that.

I remember it clear as day. And I remember the fear. My mum knew I wasn't talking rubbish. She believed me straight away and she isn't a 'woo' person at all

The house I live in now feels very friendly and calm always, though even here I had an experience recently.

Was sitting at my desk working late at night, which unusually is in one corner of the kitchen- it's nice in the daytime as I can work and look out at the garden.

I suddenly saw a shadow figure, sort of human shape and adult height, come in from the garden through the window of the patio door, into the kitchen, where it disappeared. It sounds odd to say, but I didn't feel scared, just kind of "Oh, that's interesting."

In fact even at the time I just put it down to being a bit tired as I don't normally work late, as was trying to finish something, and said something like "Oh come on now!" out loud, more to my tired brain than anything. My dog was sleeping next to me and didn't stir.

Another experience I had recently was when I was staying in a hotel for work and came back to my room in the evening. While I was taking my makeup off and cleaning my teeth in the bathroom I felt like there was someone behind me, pestering me and trying to get my attention, and I kept turning around but couldn't see anything, it was just a feeling. And I had drank a couple of glasses of wine and was quite tired. In my head I said something like "Leave me alone, I'm just trying to go to bed and get some sleep!". I did go to bed but had a very unsettled night. The next day when I arrived home my mum told me that one of her oldest friends had passed away- I had been close to her too, she was one of those friends who become like family. Sorry if it was you in the bathroom, Aunty P!

Growing up we lived in a flat that was haunted. My bedroom seemed to be the epicentre. Even in summer it was always freezing.

I have early memories of being aged 4/5 in bed trying to fall asleep, wondering why I could feel someone else's breath on my cheek.

One night I was laying there wide awake and someone hissed loudly in my ear, like I felt their breath, felt their mouth right next to my ear. I freaked out screaming my head off, my mum obviously decided I was just having bad dreams and told me to leave off

After that night I would randomly hear that noise all the time in different areas of my room, from a corner by the ceiling, from my bed, from under my dresser. It was always a sharp hiss noise, like you do when you're hiding and quietly trying to get someone's attention.

I remember organising all my colouring pencils, rubbers, sharpeners etc on my bed, turning round to get something, and the sharpener bouncing off the wall.

Every time something weird happened I'd freak out and run to my mum, and she'd insist I was having bad dreams or being silly or just making stuff up

It was only years after we moved away my mum was like "Yeah there was definitely something weird about that place" -thanks mum!

Oh also, a few years back I looked the flat up on google earth, and there was a weird shadowy face looking out my old bedroom window. Woo!

1- I had a life in a dream. Lived a whole 30ish years, died getting hit by a car and woke up in my bed again aged 19. Had a career, kids, husband, everything. It really messed me up for a long time. I know logically it was just a dream but I do wonder sometimes. Deep down I'm terrified of waking up again like I did before.

2 - When DS was 13 he was with his friends at the park opposite. When he was there DH suddenly got up and ran out of the house yelling something has happened to DSname. He ran straight into DS's friend coming for help because DS fell out of a tree and broke his leg 😲. DH wont even talk about it it freaks him out so much. Theres no way he could have seen or heard anything either 🥴 .

I once saw a man sat on the edge of our bed. I was rushing around so it was more peripheral. Assumed it was my husband and spoke to him. Then DH called from downstairs, nobody was upstairs. I have been thinking about what I saw. It was a man who looked a bit like my DH but had fists either side of him buried into duvet and he was slightly hunched and looking down. I know what I saw. Same house I've had my name called very loudly from the bottom of the stairs. It's a new build but I seem to have shit happen no matter where I live. I hear footsteps at night. Always wake at 3am, every night. Could be anything waking me but it's a bit weird. Kids have all seen things, the youngest has seen flying creatures (toddler imagination?) and elder one lights. I've seen the lights too. Blue glowing circles. It doesn't feel awful or heavy. No cold spots. My house as a teen was pretty heavy atmosphere, felt watched. My room was freezing. If I changed my room round or decorated that would be it. Noises. My friends saw people in my room if they woke in the middle of the night. I never felt scared. My brother was held down and saw stuff but I didn't see that. I just had things appear that I was looking for or I'd dream where the item had gone. I used to talk to the person and say sorry for decorating again. Batshit I know. I sensed a man who was older, it was a very old house. Utensils flew across the kitchen when my brother was there. Obviously didn't like my sibling ha!
