Sainsbury's vacuum packed mince.

Omg what the hell were they thinking.
Just tried making bolognaise with it. It's direct separate in the same way, and is just big lumps. 😬

I hate it too, aldi and home bargains do it in the old style package (not sure if tesco do but Jack's at my local shop does) I still use it but it gives annoying grainy chilli and only really works well in a lasagne

I haven't tried sainsburys but Hello fresh and lidl beef mince is vacuum packed and seems fine to me? I'm intrigued

Hate it and shop at Waitrose or butchers instead. It isn't "normal mince" in a vacuum pack it's some form of meat slime.

I buy the frozen mince now. So handy to have in and it is nicely minced like pellets. So no big lumps.

I find this just goes to paste though. I'm sure they pump it full of water for freezing

Break it up with a whisk, honestly it makes it much easier. Once it’s broken up the texture and taste is the exact same.

I haven't noticed a difference in taste or texture to be honest. Granted it is a bit more of a faff to get it broken up but thats the only down side for me. Hasn't stopped me buying it.

I wasn’t keen when they first changed the packaging but we actually can’t tell a difference. I tend to use it for chilli/bolognese/lasagne and usually cook it for a long time. Breaking it up is a good workout though!

I've only bought the tiny 250g packets recently which weren't so bad but I was making a large lasagne recently so got the 500g and it was awful.. I had to extrude it from the packet and put it in two batches to break it up - won't do that again

Go to the butcher and ask them to mince you actual meat there and then. It's what I do.

Unfortunately had the same experience with Asda mince on Sunday. Trying to make a chilli con carne. I struggle with wrist pain so trying to break up the lumps was agony. My friend suggested using a potato masher but that also hurt. Needless to say I won't be buying it again - just hope that all supermarkets don't follow suit (have a feeling they will).

Anything I can do to reduce the carbon impact of beef is appreciated. I have it very rarely and don't notice an impact on the texture.

Yeah, it's shit isn't it? Uses less plastic but it's completely non-recyclable!

Floppy plastic is recyclable at the big supermarkets. My Sainsbury's has a collection point outside.

Wow. I actually prefer it. Less plastic waste,less room in fridge or freezer,tastes the same to us.

I gave up buying meat in supermarkets about a year ago and get it from the butcher now. Most supermarket meat is tasteless.

I gave it a try. Bloody hell it was hard work. I felt like I was repeatedly stabbing it with the wooden spoon and ended up pulling a muscle in my arm. It may as well have been meatballs. The kids didn't say anything but then again they've been trained to say thank you and not take the piss out of whatever is put in front of them.
