Mostly to make me feel better. I'm currently up and about because I have a hacking cough and can't sleep, and have just spent £6.50 on a baby lego crocodile on eBay.

Backstory: DS(6) has a Lego set which includes a family of crocodiles. Today a friend's toddler was over and took a shine to the baby crocodile, so he gave it to her to take home. He is totally unbothered, and knowing him will remain so, but I've felt sorry for the parent crocodiles all day, and have now spent actual real money to assuage my upset that two small pieces of plastic might be missing a third smaller piece of plastic. I even caught myself (briefly) worrying that the new baby crocodile isn't quite the right shade of green, and that they might know it's not really theirs.

My only defence is that I am quite pregnant and hormonal, and due to aforementioned cough have had very little sleep for the last few days. I'm honestly not usually this batshit...

Has anyone else spent money on anything so completely ridiculous?

Sorry wrong thread 😂

I bought a sad looking chilli plant from Aldi because I felt sorry for it. I fed it and watered it and showered it with love and it grew big and strong. It repaid my attention with a bumper crop of chillies. We don't eat chillies....

I bought a four inch tall mouse in a tutu last Christmas because she had only one leg. All her fellow ballerinas had two.

I sometimes feel sorry for the unchosen piece of fruit or last item of the product on the shelf and buy it. Or the one that is slightly mishapen or damaged I worry that it feels left out, unchosen and abandoned. Not good enough. So i rescue it and take it home to fulfil its purpose and live up to its promise.

I bought the one last remaining cuddly penguin lying at the bottom of a basket in a service station recently, for similar reasons.

My DD1 hated the pram from day one, but whilst pregnant with DD2 I was adamant that she (by then a headstrong 2YO) would want to sit in the pram with her baby sister. Spent £1400 on a fancy double pram which she sat in once. It was heavy, cumbersome and took up all the room in our (large) boot - even as a single pram - so I sold it for £600 less than I bought it for within about 3 weeks 😭

Yeah you didn’t have to do that could’ve just bought two prams of the same brand and clipped them together to make a double

Probably spending about £3,500 to date to drive virtual cars around on the Internet.

OP you are not worried about the baby crocodile in a strange home with no parents? Hadn’t you better send new parents to care for it?

I became obsessed with gardening on my flat balcony, without using pesticides.
a plague of aphids arrived and I researched how to get rid of them. Tried washing up liquid and water, baking powder etc but nothing worked.

i found out you can buy ladybirds online to help eat the aphids. So I spent £12 on about 7 ladybirds who arrived in a box in the post. I put them on the plants and then watched them fly away after a day or so 😂

This is fabulous 😂

Consultations with psychic mediums when I was grieving. I spent thousands with many, many different ones and never got any comfort, reassurance or proof that any one of them had a gift. I believed because I needed to, and now I see how they took advantage of a vulnerable young woman who was heartbroken.

Oh bless you @AuntieEstablishment 😥

I spent about £10 on an identical backup of my son's favourite teddy, which originally cost £1.99, just in case.

It's been hidden away for three years now.

Rookie mistake

You suppose to of been switching them daily

coxesorangepippin · 26/06/2024 02:54

£125 on a pair of Reebok Pump trainers the day they came out, it was 1988 & I only earned just over £100 a week but the minute I got paid I knew I had to have the trainers.

Harmonypus · 26/06/2024 02:29

I'm no longer married, and won't be making that stupid mistake again!

I absolutely love this. The sort of thing that l'd do xxx

likethislikethat · 25/06/2024 22:50

£375k plus taxes that had to be spend on the only available 3 bedroom property to fix a 2 bed property problem and of course, it didn't.

So I over paid, maybe £25k to £50k.

It will come back and I'm not worried about the money but for those reading, the decision was rushed, though considered and objective. There was nothing wrong with the decision in principle.

My advice is to stand down, stand back, even when faced with a terrible future because often it does not require the sacrifice to endure.

@AveAtqueVale
I relate to this so much! But I’d be even worse than you and would want to swap the new baby croc for the ‘original’ so it was the same family back together. I clearly couldn’t do this as the other mum would think I’m insane 🙃 come to think of it, I wouldn’t have been able to let the child take the baby croc and separate them in the first place 🙈🤣🤣

I 100% had this thought too when I read the OP’s post.

ForFirmBiscuit · 25/06/2024 22:14

I’m autistic and the way you describe your hormones effecting you is the way I’ve been like my whole life and I’m not pregnant

ArielManto43 · 25/06/2024 22:00

About twenty years ago I spent a silly amount of time and money on Ebay, painstakingly replacing little individual plastic pokemon figures belonging to my son that our puppy had chewed up. Lots of people at the time said, " That's ridiculous! You shouldn't replace any of them. It will teach him not to leave his toys all over the floor." But I did anyway. (And he's all grown up now, an engineer, with a partner and a place of his own. And yet he still has - and loves - all those little pokemon toys. And we often have a laugh about me tearing my hair out on the internet, trying to source them all. So no regrets, really!).
