Hi posting here as this thread seems to get the most traction.

I found out I was pregnant this morning. I haven’t had periods for 2 years as I’ve been on the pill and they’ve stopped them. I had no symptoms until recently. My belly is tiny, I’ve lost weight. I have been feeling so sick and dizzy, Saturday I went to a theme park with my daughter, I fainted and was sick everywhere. The medic came over and asked if there was any chance I could be pregnant and I laughed it off. I recovered and we went home.

Today I thought oh I will just take a test to rule it out. I was going shopping anyway so I didn’t specifically set out to buy a test, I just grabbed one with my shopping. I fully expected it to say negative, I was just doing it to humour myself. I knew there was an extremely slim chance but I was 99.99% sure it would be negative. I didn’t even look for 20 minutes as I was adamant it was a waste of time and would be negative. But no, two lines appeared. Because I left it so long I thought a possible false positive so I went out and got 6 more including a digi. All were dark positive and the digi said pregnant.

I went in to panic mode. I have not had sex in 30 weeks, the last time I had sex was November the 24th. I was dating somebody and things broke up after a few months as he moved abroad. I have not had sex or even dated since.

I called EPU, I explained the whole situation and they’ve said as I’m over 16 weeks, they can not take me under their care and I need to do an online referral for a midwife and urge the importance of the situation in my online referral. I have done an online referral and stressed they contact me asap. I can not find a direct number for the midwife’s, only the number for antenatal day Assesment unit. I don’t know what I should do, do I just go to a&e. Do I wait until the midwife’s have got back to me?

I am so scared. For all I know there’s more than one baby, the baby could be sick, the placenta could have developed incorrectly, the baby could be deformed, the baby could have a disability. Anything; because I haven’t been checked! So now I’m worrying!

I also drink a bottle of wine most weekends.

I am terrified something would have gone wrong but I’m in limbo until the midwife’s contact me back after they’ve received my referral. I don’t know what to do, do I go to A&E?? Am I going to be in trouble for not knowing until now?

I feel so uncomfortable sat here doing nothing about it until they’ve got back to me when I’m anywhere from 30-36 weeks pregnant. My other daughter was born at 33 weeks so I’m worrying!!!

please what do I do??? Do I go to a&e???

OP , I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 24 weeks ,I was 22 at the time had gone through Christmas, new year ,my birthday and was out most weekends .. my baby was fine .. and is now in his 30s although he says he would of been Clever if I hadn't drunk through them 24 weeks .. but as I never had periods he was just a surprise.. he is and was perfect as I'm sure your baby will be .. try and get a scan to put your mind at rest

No weight gain at all? How is that possible?

Easily.
At week 30 you would normally get only 7-9kg. If OP had reduced apetite she could have lost 5-7kg of her own weight easily through such long time, resulting in overall weight to stay same or go up 1 or 2kg which you would not normally notice.

PlantDoctor · 23/06/2024 15:32

Thinking of you. I would have thought that 111 would send you to see someone today, particularly as you are in pain. Such a shock, but you can get through it. Get as much support around you as you can x

FUBAR77 · 23/06/2024 15:29

my neighbour went into labour at full term when she didn’t even know she was pregnant- she was an aerobics instructor so probably did all sorts of movements daily she shouldn’t have. Plus drank etc, baby was perfectly fine.

KomodoOhno · 23/06/2024 15:29

Keeping you in my thoughts and hoping for good news

FannyFifer · 23/06/2024 15:28

Thinking about you OP, I can't imagine how scary this is. Glad you are going in to get checked.

Rinoachicken · 23/06/2024 15:26

So glad you are being seen OP - you are in the right place with the right people now and they will do all they can to look after you and the baby from now on x

AgathaX · 23/06/2024 15:26

Fingers crossed that all is ok. I'm an ex midwife. I can assure you that your situation isn't unheard of, it happens and hopefully staff will be supportive and able to get the ball rolling with a scan to reassure you.

I would be paying for an immediate scan if you can afford it.

This. Wishing you all the best OP.

SlowlyForward · 23/06/2024 15:24

Good luck OP. I absolutely believe you, and I hope it works out well for you. Glad you have help in real life.

Fingers crossed here.

IWantThisSoMuch · 23/06/2024 15:23

You’ve absolutely done the right thing in phoning the assessment unit and it happens more than you realise and they will be able to scan you and see how pregnant you are and if you’re in labour and mitigate the risks from your medication. You’ve done well getting to this point, you’re doing great. Good luck.

Persipan · 23/06/2024 15:23

Best of luck OP, I hope you are able to get some reassurance.

I know someone who only discovered she was pregnant at about 30 weeks (and I'm pretty sure had been up to all sorts during that time, including beach parties in Thailand). She, and baby, were absolutely fine.

Tiredalwaystired · 23/06/2024 15:23

thinking of you OP xx

Call triage, they will see and very likely scan you. It won't matter at all you haven't booked- it happens all the time. Good luck OP 💐

Just seen your update, glad you are getting seen, good luck.

50shadedofmagnolia · 23/06/2024 15:21

I was 26 weeks when I found out with my third 🤣
I had absolutely zero symptoms and hadn't had a period in three years.
Everything was fine and I had a perfect little girl delivered by section 13 weeks later x

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 23/06/2024 15:20

Gosh what a mind boggling situation to be in. Keeping my fingers crossed both you & baby will be fine and in times it’ll all sink in. 💐

Goldflamingo · 23/06/2024 13:32

Ive felt some movement but nothing major. Since my 6 year old daughter I’ve had phantom kicks pretty consistently and I’ve looked in to them and it says it can be normal. I’ve had them various times whilst not being pregnant. I haven’t had any strong kicks just slight movement I put down to phantom kicks.

I feel slightly in pain like dull period cramps. I don’t know if I should phone triage just incase it’s the early onset of labour or something since my daughter was born at 33 weeks but I’m not sure if I phone triage they will see me as my pregnancy isn’t registered

Call triage, they will see and very likely scan you. It won't matter at all you haven't booked- it happens all the time. Good luck OP 💐

CandyLeBonBon · 23/06/2024 15:20

Goodness me what a shock. A work colleague's wife had a similar situation except she was menopausal and they thought she'd got a bowel problem as she was have and pains. Ambulance came and it turns out she was in labour. Neither of them suspected a thing! It does happen and it's quite a shock! Good luck op. I hope everything is ok Flowers

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 23/06/2024 14:49

A scan now would date the pregnancy.

She'll get a scan but there's no real urgency as in it has to be today. A midwife will be able to measure and feel baby.

Goldflamingo · 23/06/2024 15:16

111 still haven’t called me back. I have phoned antenatal day Assesment and they’ve said to come in as soon as I can as I need to be seen by one of their doctors asap given my history of preterm labour.

I have told my sister who lives an hour away. She is coming with brother in law, brother in law is taking daughter back to his to baby sit and sister is staying with me.

Will try to update later if I can. Just hopeful it’s not premature labour. I know some people have said that HCG doesn’t show on a test beyond a certain point. Wishful thinking wants me to believe that. Midwife I spoke to says that isn’t true, I did take a pregnancy test at 28 weeks in previous pregnancy as I wanted a positive test for her memory box and that was positive. I’m hoping that I’m not but I understand I’m being completely naive by thinking that but a blood test or scan will confirm.

I know some will suspect I knew and I’m worried the midwife’s will think the same. Had truly absolutely no idea. No weight gain, no periods which was normal for me. Had hyperemesis in previous pregnancy so knew straight away. Have only been sick once during this pregnancy and that was yesterday. I’m exactly the sort of person who’d say “how can you not know you were pregnant that’s stupid” now I’m in that same situation.

will update if I can
thanks
