Hi posting here as this thread seems to get the most traction.

I found out I was pregnant this morning. I haven’t had periods for 2 years as I’ve been on the pill and they’ve stopped them. I had no symptoms until recently. My belly is tiny, I’ve lost weight. I have been feeling so sick and dizzy, Saturday I went to a theme park with my daughter, I fainted and was sick everywhere. The medic came over and asked if there was any chance I could be pregnant and I laughed it off. I recovered and we went home.

Today I thought oh I will just take a test to rule it out. I was going shopping anyway so I didn’t specifically set out to buy a test, I just grabbed one with my shopping. I fully expected it to say negative, I was just doing it to humour myself. I knew there was an extremely slim chance but I was 99.99% sure it would be negative. I didn’t even look for 20 minutes as I was adamant it was a waste of time and would be negative. But no, two lines appeared. Because I left it so long I thought a possible false positive so I went out and got 6 more including a digi. All were dark positive and the digi said pregnant.

I went in to panic mode. I have not had sex in 30 weeks, the last time I had sex was November the 24th. I was dating somebody and things broke up after a few months as he moved abroad. I have not had sex or even dated since.

I called EPU, I explained the whole situation and they’ve said as I’m over 16 weeks, they can not take me under their care and I need to do an online referral for a midwife and urge the importance of the situation in my online referral. I have done an online referral and stressed they contact me asap. I can not find a direct number for the midwife’s, only the number for antenatal day Assesment unit. I don’t know what I should do, do I just go to a&e. Do I wait until the midwife’s have got back to me?

I am so scared. For all I know there’s more than one baby, the baby could be sick, the placenta could have developed incorrectly, the baby could be deformed, the baby could have a disability. Anything; because I haven’t been checked! So now I’m worrying!

I also drink a bottle of wine most weekends.

I am terrified something would have gone wrong but I’m in limbo until the midwife’s contact me back after they’ve received my referral. I don’t know what to do, do I go to A&E?? Am I going to be in trouble for not knowing until now?

I feel so uncomfortable sat here doing nothing about it until they’ve got back to me when I’m anywhere from 30-36 weeks pregnant. My other daughter was born at 33 weeks so I’m worrying!!!

please what do I do??? Do I go to a&e???

Op has already said she's on her way to the antenatal assessment unit once her sister gets to her.

Yes,and?
I am addressing the multiple inappropriate posts recommending ED. Only go ED in an actual emergency .

Mostlyoblivious · 23/06/2024 16:42

Good luck OP

Try to ring the maternity unit - failing that go to a&e

NO. don’t go ED it’s not an emergency. ED is full and over capacity
See your GP and chase up urgent maternity referral

My mind is boggling at how any woman can not have a massive belly in her third trimester.

I was showing in my first trimester 🙄
Not saying I don’t believe OP I just cannot fathom it.
How is it physically possible to fit a baby in there and not have a bump?

It is possible, my second pregnancy, many years ago, I fainted and was asked by medical staff if I could be pregnant.
I had regular periods and maybe looked like I had a large lunch .. that's it ! Didn't go up a size in clothes nor felt ill . I was 30wks !
But of a shock to say the least !

My dd found out about her 2nd dc at 28 weeks, she had split up with her partner and only took a pregnancy test after she passed out at her friend's birthday meal. Once she realised she was pregnant her belly popped out, until then she thought her slight weight gain was due to stress eating pizza etc.
She too drank throughout her pregnancy - never to excess but definitely at least 3 units per week and occasionally definitely more. Her dc was born at 42 weeks plus and was, and is, perfectly healthy - no signs of foetal alcohol syndrome - as suggested by a pp. My dd worried about this but was reassured by her midwife pre-birth.
Yes she was too late for the Down's syndrome test (as raised by the same pp) but she didn't have it with her1st or 3rd child either(both of whom she knew about virtually as soon as she got pregnant and with whom she had the usual ante natal care) because she was keeping her babies regardless!
I'm glad you are being seen today OP and that you have family support - good luck.

Hope it all goes well @Goldflamingo

My thoughts too. Unless OP is obese?

Edited

I'm a 10/12 and didn't get a bump until 34 weeks, my colleagues kept asking if I was sure I was really pregnant, and I had to have all sorts of scans because bump was measuring so small. I was still in my regular clothes.Even at 39 weeks when baby came, I just looked like I'd eaten a few too many cakes and had to leave the button on my normal jeans undone.

Baby was born bang on the 50th centile for weight and length, albeit very scrunched up for the first few weeks as I guess they'd not been used to having room to manoeuvre. Interestingly he quickly shot up to 90th centile for height, and has stayed there ever since.

Cupofteaandbiscuits · 23/06/2024 16:33

I hope it goes as well as it can OP X

Strictlymad · 23/06/2024 16:32

Sending hugs op, deffo just potter down to the unit and explain, they will take care of you, scan, ctg etc and make a plan. Maybe take yourself an overnight bag just in case, from a mum of two premmies

ChateauMargaux · 23/06/2024 16:32

Sending you all the love and best wishes in the world. I am glad your sister can come to be with you and that your BIL will look after your daughter.

Breathe, take each moment as it comes and let it go, when it is gone. Whatever helps to allow you stay calm, whatever comes - try that.. without practicing, it might be too difficult to listen to someone else guiding a relaxation, if you don't already do something like that.. but something simple like this:
youtube calm guided breathing... might help.. if it wouldn't - don't stress by trying - maybe watch something distracting on Netflix.

Don't worry what others might think, including the midwives - in the highly unlikely event that you come across someone who is awkward - get your sister to interrupt and say - 'I don't think that is helpful at this moment - I think my sister would like to know if she or the baby is in any immediate risk... everything else can be dealt with once we know that'

Not saying I don’t believe OP I just cannot fathom it.
How is it physically possible to fit a baby in there and not have a bump?

Deep pelvic area?
Position of baby?
Baby may be on the smaller side?
It's really not as unusual as you may think.

As I said my 8lb 2 oz DD2 I put on 3lbs in total and I was 9.5 stone when she was born and no real bump. So not obese ( I'm 5ft 6) and could wear my jeans extended by a hairband at the waist.

avarteahaba · 23/06/2024 16:31

Some of the advice on here is ridiculous, and downright dangerous.

Calling the assessment unit was the right idea, OP.

Hope all goes ok.

bananaphon · 23/06/2024 16:30

@Exactlab what a nasty post. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Mnk711 · 23/06/2024 16:30

PPS my extremely slim friend when 30 weeks pregnant still looked slim - no bump at all. It was insane! But baby was all good.

Good luck, and try not to worry. It seems unbelievable to you but the medical staff see unbelievable things on a regular basis so they won't judge you, fingers crossed. Here's hoping for either a big misunderstanding for some innocuous reason (though seems unlikely!) or a happy, healthy baby.

Don’t bother with a walk in centre, they won’t be able to do anything unfortunately. You need a hospital where there are obstetricians and midwives.

In my experience a walk in centre can arrange things with the hospital directly.

LunaTheCat · 23/06/2024 16:27

Thinking of you OP…don’t feel bad… being unaware late pregnancy is surprisingly common.
I am glad that you have support in person and a plan.
Very best wishes.💐

She mentions drinking a bottle of wine at weekends each week

Ok, I did ask where OP had mentioned alcohol.
It's still quite a leap from 'a bottle of wine/few units' over a weekend to the OPs an alcoholic so baby will be too!!
