Is this school mum trying to intimidate me??

This sounds really weird but I’ve had a few encounters with this school mum now and every time I’ve seen him it happens. Few times outside the school gates and one time in a shop near the school. She seems to be quite loud and ‘out there’. Anyway, she will just be walking normally and then when she sees me she will purposefully come towards me and into my path and block me walking and I have to go around and then she said ‘oh sorry’ with a laugh in her voice. First time it happened I just thought nothing of it but it keeps happening.

Just look her in the eye and say loudly "What a strange woman you are" laugh and walk away. She sounds like an idiot, treat her like one.

This! ⬆️

I think I would ask a mate to video this from a distance once or twice. I'd be concerned that she's working up to faking an injury from you tripping her or something and making a claim. There has to be a reason behind this very weird behaviour but now you are seeing a pattern, I would take preemptive action and try and get this behaviour on record.

FangsForTheMemory · 25/06/2024 15:47

At a guess I would say she's a really extrovert person who likes the attention of everyone, all the time. You're not giving her any attention so she's starting to bully you. If you don't give her the attention she wants, she will escalate this. I would say 'excuse me' politely and if she doesn't get out of your way, ostentatiously step around her.

Lisajane47 · 25/06/2024 15:46

Please be careful, this happened to me when my son was in primary, so.i stood my ground, this all ended in court, she waited for me at school then hit me straight in the face, breaking my nose and eye socket, we both got hurled in court because I hit her back, she got community hrs.

It wasn't a nice experience and knocked my self esteem, which took me ages to get back.

Twazique · 25/06/2024 15:15

Give her a big hug! Grin

Also, video her in case its the start of something more.

sonjadog · 25/06/2024 15:14

Stop up and look at your phone or something in the distance, so you don't seem to notice her. If she thinks you don't give a shit, she will stop doing it.

Welshmonster · 25/06/2024 14:57

What a weirdo. Trying to get a reaction from you so she can play the injured victim when you eventually lose your cool. Soon as you notice her start filming it and posting it on tiktok with #weirdo

or call someone and if she does it say I’m sorry can I call you back as some strange woman is in my personal space and laugh loudly.

I'llBuyThatForADollar · 25/06/2024 14:53

Stand your ground (i.e. stand still and don't move) and RECORD her doing it on your phone for when she says you have imagined it/it's your fault.
What a nutcase she is!

crumblingschools · 25/06/2024 14:31

Does she do it with anyone else?

Quite simply the finest advice of the day. Go for it.

WiddlinDiddlin · 25/06/2024 14:01

Do not yield.

Direct eye contact, smiley, breezy 'Hi/Good morning/etc'... and stick to your path, no matter what.

She can't pretend you've walked into her/she didn't see you, it will disarm her because you've taken charge, but you're doing nothing outwardly offensive or rude.

Winner winner.

i will admit this is significantly easier if, like me, you trundle around in a 200kg power wheelchair. Few people are stupid enough not to move!

Waffle78 · 25/06/2024 13:53

Turn to the side like your going to cross the road avoid eye contact or get your phone out and pretend you're making a phone call. Just don't entertain her sounds like a right weirdo.

Poochie65 · 25/06/2024 13:52

Haha yeah the bending down at the last minute sounds funny, also just standing still too. Both of those options sound the best advice.

SpaceMaze · 25/06/2024 13:43

I don’t understand her motives but it sounds purposeful, whatever it is she’s doing.

I get why people are saying it’s best to keep ignoring and not show you’re bothered by her, but the problem with that, is she might think you’re a pushover & keep doing it.

If it was me and she did it again, I would have to say something like “ooo,we have to stop bumping into each other like this” or laugh and say “this is getting a bit weird now, isn’t it?” OR if you see her obviously heading your way, I would stop & move to the side as if to let her past, smile and say “ we keep walking into each other, so you go first”

mrlistersgelfbride · 25/06/2024 13:31

I'd be (fake) friendly to her to the point it freaks her out. "hello, I've never seen you before. Are our kids in the same year? Nice t shirt. What you doing at the weekend?"

Or if you have the guts, don't move and stare her out.

I hate people like this, as if she could be bothered such a weird bully!

FTPM1980 · 25/06/2024 13:29

Hard to say from a description but as you sure she isn't just wanting to say hello/chat?
If I saw someone I knew coming toward me I would move directly in front of them and stop about 5ft away....to allow everyone else to pass, then smile, say hello and ask how they are.....but if they just kept walking and went around me I would think they were rude and trying to avoid me??

pinkyspromises · 25/06/2024 13:18

She has the mental age of a school bully

I would completely blank her. Always

She's not worth the wnergy

exaltedwombat · 25/06/2024 13:13

Goodness knows what's going on in her head! Is there any history with her that suggests it may be malicious? Perhaps it's her idea of a joke?

Anyway, you can dodge aside with a merry laugh or just stop still and see what happens. Do let us know!

xyzabcde · 25/06/2024 12:55

As she changes direction towards you squat down to sort out your bag, tie your laces etc.

Actually I will be honest and say I have been practicing this successfully for a few months with some of our “European cousins” who walk in pairs holding hands and covering an entire footpath….whilst watching us Brits meekly scuttle off the pavement to let them pass.

No more - I can now identify as a tank 😁

European cousins?

SiberFox · 25/06/2024 12:47

Poor kid(s) of hers

Allthehorsesintheworld · 25/06/2024 12:46

It’d be awful if you were holding a cup of iced water with a very flimsy lid, as she walks into you.

Fraaahnces · 25/06/2024 12:03

“Wow! Time for Specsavers, Mate! You do this every single time you see me! Something very wrong with your vision!”

Get/print out Specsaver leaflets and give her one each time. Stuff it in her hand/neckline or wherever you can.

Itsnotmeanttodothat · 25/06/2024 12:35

I've got someone who does the same. I do what @VWT5 said.

I don't move, I mean I end up looking like a bouncer but I don't care.

She thinks she's the queen bee. I just think she looks pathetic.

The earphones go in and I stand where I always stand. I'm there to collect and pick up my son not be bullied.
