6 year child - stranger talking about her penis

Trigger warning : sensitive topic around Gender Identity

I was at a work event (private garden - bring family along deal) and someone there is a transgender woman- she was tall, bearded ,hirsuite and wearing a dress and heels.
My daughter (6) was roaming around with the other kids and i think must have asked the lady why she was wearing a dress.
She explained that she ´was born a man with a willy , and is now a lady ’

Something jarred in me about a grown person talking about gentalia to a 6 year old child.
What does the mumsnet think?
AIBU to be annoyed?

Sorry to miss the point, but surely if you wish to trans gender to a woman, you would cut off your beard so you would look like a woman, or, or....you are literally just a man in a dress ? If he looked like a woman in his dress, he wouldn't have been questioned by a 6 year old. He hasn't actually changed anything except his clothes - this doth not a woman make

Megifer · 20/06/2024 13:05

Not at all surprised to see people focusing on ops 'rude' 6 year old child rather than the man talking about his dick.

Can't bloody go anywhere now without being faced with these people! YANBU at all to be annoyed and creeped out, considering it's a fetish for most of them, I'd be livid if I heard that said to a child!

I live in London, I have known a number of trans women, spend time with many with the LGBTQ+ circle, and have yet to meet anyone who has a beard AND says they are a transwoman. Every transwoman I know works as hard as possible to fit in. I have met plenty of men who like to wear dresses / skirts / womens clothes and have a beard, but none would claim to be transwomen.

So yeah, I can go just about anywhere with being "faced with these people" as described in the OP

Didimum · 20/06/2024 13:03

She likely shouldn’t have done that. Without knowing her, hard to know if it was a brain fart moment as a kid hasn’t asked before, whether she has any experience of talking to kids or not etc.

I'm finding this hard to believe tbh.
An hirsute transwoman, clearly looking male, is wearing a dress and heels. Is this your colleague, your client? Do they dress that way at work? Have you always known them as trans?
Then your kid asked them why they were wearing a dress? Did you hear your kid asking this? Is that a polite thing to ask one of your mum's colleagues? Then they mentioned their 'willy'. Again, did you hear them saying this, and if so why not speak to them at the time?
It doesn't ring true on many levels.

Oh of course, because men in dresses sporting beards is ENTIRELY not happening in this day and age EYEROLL

JusteanBiscuits · 20/06/2024 13:00

If it's a colleague, why are you not reporting it to work, especially if they work with the public? Inappropriate behaviour needs to be raised with them and it was in a work environment, so reporting this to your management is the obvious thing to do, surely?

heathspeedwell · 20/06/2024 12:29

This reminds me of the transwoman with a semi who went naked into a spa right next to a little girl and some posters claimed the little girl was 'rude' for looking at his penis.

Of course later it turned out that he was a convicted sex offender with a history of flashing.

Sadly some people just want to centre men and their feelings at all times, rather than actually think about safeguarding children.

Hear hear.

No, that was fucking creepy.

Cosycover · 20/06/2024 12:54

Did you say anything to him?

I would have made a scene to end all scenes. How fuckin dare he.

I wish I had heard. It was an early evening party. Only 30 people or so and it was only as I was putting her to bed .

It is 100% unacceptable OP but there's not much you can do, the police are very woke and might tell you off for being 'transphobic' even if what that 'person' said is inappropriate and bordering on pedophilia.

Yes , it isnt going to be a police matter for sure x

My six year old daughter would have been no where near the bearded bloke in a dress tbh. If this is true it's absolutely wrong for him to be talking about genitalia and completely unnecessary. The poster saying the child was rude, I don't see why as it's a natural question for her to be thinking. Just like for example someone arrived in a panda outfit, unusual why are you wearing that? She's a child.

hermenmumster · 20/06/2024 12:53

RedRobyn2021 · 20/06/2024 12:48

I mean, that wouldn't bother me. It's the truth, what are they supposed to say?

Talking about things openly is the best way with kids IMO

Perhaps not talking about genitalia to a stranger's 6 year old?
I am allowed to have conversations about willies with my children.
But i am her mother . You would not think it was appropriate to have conversations about genitalia with a stranger child?

HIS penis.

It's grossly inappropriate and creepy. There is no situation in which it's OK for strangers to mention their genitalia to children.

This. I would be very angry. And it's completely normal for a 6yo to question why a man is wearing a dress.

Maybe the adult male could have not mentioned his cock to a 6 year old child?

Not a strangers place to "talk openly" to a child about his penis either.

Ladyritacircumference · 20/06/2024 12:05

How rude of your daughter. Has she no manners?

It is like when a child asks a person with a disability why they use a wheelchair, or what is ‘wrong’ with them.

Other people are not there to provide teachable moments for your child.

I suspect the trans woman’s reply was their way of telling your child to fuck off.

Rude? You’re standing there as a man with a beard in a dress? I’d think any kid would want to know what was going on. People have lost the plot

I think it’s a clear and kind of engaging way to explain the issue to a child in one sentence. They probably assumed you had openly discussed the existence of genitalia to your child.
Is it that this person was talking about their penis in particular or that they mentioned penises at all? For example if your child had gone up to a man and asked about genders, and the man said “they are women born with willies” vs him saying “I’m a man and I have a willy”

The sentence makes perfect sense without the words "with a willy" that embellishment is purely for shock and titillation.

Do you think this person with a beard no longer has a willy because they didn't specify did they?

The issue is mentioning penises at all.
Not sure who "they" are in "they are women born with willies"?

He could have said I like wearing dresses or I used to be a boy but now I am a lady (not my preference but hey ho)

It was a man in a dress talking to a child about willies. What the fuck are we allowing in this country

hermenmumster · 20/06/2024 12:40

Thank you , and thank you everyone who is sticking up for my beautiful little daughter.
I did not come on here for my daughter to be accused of being rude, and it has stirred the mamabear in me even more
