New Couple moved In. Council says I made a complaint.

As above really.

We live on a street which is one row of terraced facing a road and then allotments to the front, the same terraced to the back, gardens meeting, they're overlooking a green and then primary school.

A new couple moved in a few months ago, 2 doors up (my neighbour then them). They've bought their home, everyone my side is council.

Anyway! I was out doing my hedge earlier and new lady drove up, I've not seen her before. I waved and said welcome to the street (that's what someone said to me when we were given this house after being homeless) We were trying to comminucate over next doors front garden. I couldn't hear with cars going by and do we met on the street.

She said she had a lot of complaints and letters from council with my name and door number!!
News to me!
Im still gobsmacked. I know when they first moved in they had a party with a lot of old euro rave tunes - I was loving it!

So.. I said no, no, not me, and she said your door and your name (had introduced).

Has somebody living close by, made a complaint with my name and address? I'm livid if they have!
How do I find out? I know I can call the council, but they're not going to say it was Kourtney next door using your details.

I just feel blummin awful now. I've been here 8 years and still get treated like I'm new (and stupid).

I'm not even sure what I'm after. Just upset.

I work as a specialist working with multiple HA and councils , she is taking through her arse!

Due to a multitude of reasons and more so for the wellbeing and safety of the person making the complaint , they would not write a letter stating house number X made a complaint against you.

Thank you. That makes complete sense.

Also... And you'll only understand this if you were on another forum...

I'm a Scrubber and I'm still good friends with the Mighty Doctor.

That said, over the years I have come to realise that it's a common saying, and it's not all about your Wotsits.

If that makes no sense, just happily move on 🤣

Yeah I think you're right. Council aren't going to give me a name. I doubt they'd even write a letter exonnerating me.
But I'm livid that either my name or door number has been used.

It was lovely to speak to her, guessing young woman in her 20s. I'm 48, was holding a garden rake, trying to my braless chest and stop sweating 🤣😭

I was thinking of buying a new home card. I don't think we'll be best of friends as I could be her Mum!

I'm just pissed off - I might be pushing 50, but I do remember my clubbing days and appreciate a tune!

She's fishing for who contacted the council and trying you first.
It doesn't matter who contacted the council if someone has been a pita.

Thank for the most recent replies.

Talking to her today, I gave out names pointing without thinking about it.
Oh, that's awful now thinking about it. It was just a sort of welcome.

Well I can see how easily it's done now!

Blimey, poor couple don't know who's against them! I'll buy them a card.

It's a bloody shame! It's all the them and us, buyers buying (eastern European) in a street where most is council.
A blummin shame.

Good luck to the young couple.

Well… she’s going to dig herself a big hole with the rest of the neighbours if she carries on with her door to door enquiries! I would be careful about this person myself

Swirlymist · 19/06/2024 20:31

I think it sounds more like she is fishing and trying to find out who has complained about her. I doubt very much she has been given your name, the council have to abide by data protection laws. I expect she is saying the same to other neighbours to gauge their reaction.

She's talking shite. I used to be a noise officer and we wouldn't ever give out names. I'd ring the council and they won't give you the name of the complainant but they can put you straight by confirming if there is a service request in your name.

Oh okay thank you so much!

Maybe she has used that on everyone then.
I'm wondering how she got my name still.
Everyone here knows everyone though, which is even more upsetting. I don't really care if she's got it from an arse hole. The street is lovely, but there are a ton of gossips. It really pisses me off though because I avoid all that.

It's like going back to school. I've been here 50 years, I've been here 20 years... You're putting your bins out too early, your cutting your hedge wrong, ffs I'm living wrong.

I have a disability which isn't obvious. I have Pip, I have a Blue Badge, I have a bus pass.

Actually, thinking about that, it could well be one of my elderly neighbours who said I got all that off Dr Google and even she doesn't get those things.

Even so...

Well I'll pop a card through their door. We are different people, different generation lol but, I'd never be so mean as to do whatever it is...

I'm guessing someone has made a complaint but she doesn't know who so she's systematically going through all the neighbours to find the guilty party using the ruse of she knows name address etc. ignore and steer clear, if she was straight up she would have said hey jack sorry if were loud the other night would you believe someone has made a complaint again sorry if were loud and leave it at that.

MissUltraViolet · 19/06/2024 20:17

Can't believe the council would put the name/address of the person complaining in a letter they sent to the person they were complaining about. Talk about causing some serious issues!

Did you ask to see the letters? Maybe pop round with some cake and have a quiet chat about it. If I was them I would want to know that someone else (probably a closer neighbour) has an issue with me.

Thank you @EsmeSusanOgg and @SmallChanges3 that is what is really annoying me.

I mean, what would happen if I called and said I'm... Whatever... Claire from #32... How would they know?

I don’t think there is any use finding it out. What are you going to do with this info? Marsh to Courtney’s house and confront her?
Just bond through your shared experience by saying “oh gosh, must have been one of the old hags on the street stitching me up. Can you believe it, 8 years on and they still treat me like a new kid. Why don’t you pop in for a cup of tea sometime?”

Edited

If a complaint had been made, the council should not have passed on (incorrect) information about who reported them, certainly not names or addresses.

I would complain to the council and ask them how your details were sent to your neighbour. And why when you didn't even make a complaint.

EsmeSusanOgg · 19/06/2024 20:07

You can make a Subject Access Request. It is possible they have incorrectly assigned someone complaint to your name. You can request that this put right/ records amended under GDPR.

Call the council and let them know any complaints from you aren’t from you. Not much else you can do.
