New Couple moved In. Council says I made a complaint.

As above really.

We live on a street which is one row of terraced facing a road and then allotments to the front, the same terraced to the back, gardens meeting, they're overlooking a green and then primary school.

A new couple moved in a few months ago, 2 doors up (my neighbour then them). They've bought their home, everyone my side is council.

Anyway! I was out doing my hedge earlier and new lady drove up, I've not seen her before. I waved and said welcome to the street (that's what someone said to me when we were given this house after being homeless) We were trying to comminucate over next doors front garden. I couldn't hear with cars going by and do we met on the street.

She said she had a lot of complaints and letters from council with my name and door number!!
News to me!
Im still gobsmacked. I know when they first moved in they had a party with a lot of old euro rave tunes - I was loving it!

So.. I said no, no, not me, and she said your door and your name (had introduced).

Has somebody living close by, made a complaint with my name and address? I'm livid if they have!
How do I find out? I know I can call the council, but they're not going to say it was Kourtney next door using your details.

I just feel blummin awful now. I've been here 8 years and still get treated like I'm new (and stupid).

I'm not even sure what I'm after. Just upset.

My shits have all been given, I have no more to give.

Unless someone annoys me, I shall be leaving this thread.

Thank you for the replies from people working with council etc with the reassurance so that I can now just put this behind me.

Honestly! She sounds like a right weirdo. OP your first response should have been to ask to see the letters as you want to take note of them to make a complaint to the council. Would love to see the shock on her face.

A right weirdo haha.

Okay.

I'm sure she's not. She might a serial killer for all I care.

Why are you so desperate for her to like you? She sounds like a pain in the arse with her finger pointing and 'euro tunes'. I'd give her a wide berth, def wouldn't give her a card.

I'm not desperate for her to like me at all!
If you read up, I said I don't want to be her friend, that she's my eldest sons age.
She seemed friendly even with her accusations, I'm happy that she's trying to flush someone out.
I'm also content with the fact that my name wasn't on anything.
She said it's their first home, so I thought it would be nice to pop a card round.
I haven't decided yet - veering towards the no. But if I did it certainly wouldn't because I want to be friends with her.

I'll give you a clue without the old drip feed
I don't have any friends
I don't have people in my house
I can be non empathetic or in this case, overly so.
I'm a single parent of a 27 year old and a 16 year old
I have never been able to share a house with anybody, nor would I want to

Yup, I'm autistic!

So no, a friend 20 odd years younger than me sounds like a nightmare.

I was just thinking a kind gesture.

Is that okay with you?

What is the barney about

JanglingJack · 21/06/2024 15:53

meganorks · 20/06/2024 08:42

The majority seem to think she's lying. But isn't more likely she has recieved a letter as she says. But it's one of the agro old neighbours who've faked it? Just get your council logo and type a letter. Two birds with one stone: complain to new person; stitch up that other newby we don't like.

Not the elder ones, they're still on landlines. One of them has probably got council on speed dial, so that wouldn't surprise me.

What would you send her a card for? She’s tried to dump you in it.

Thinking back, after a couple of days not thinking about it at all... I have no intention of sending a card. I thought it would be nice to do, to make them feel welcome to what is a cliquey street.
I've been here 8 years and still haven't heard then of it from neighbours - whether it be 50 or 15, I'm still a newcomer.
Wankers. Sorry I've just had a right barney with my neighbour!!

I think it's cruel to call her a big fat liar though. That wasn't necessary @INeedAnotherName

I was trying to tell you she is telling big lies because the Council would not do that ever (other posters are also saying the same) which makes her a liar. I can't see what's cruel about that. But if you want to believe a liar over everyone else then that's up to you.

This one first.

I get it now - big fat liar is a saying, not a personal attack on her.
She's on the larger side, so I took that literally.
I take back the cruel comment!

Either she's lying to flush out the complainant or another shit stirrer said it was you. I'd keep a wide berth and ask to see the letter with your apparently name on it, say you are going to speak to the council about this innaccuratd information and breach.

This thought had occurred to me, too.

I don't think we'll be friend friends @BobbyBiscuits , she's, I think, about my adult sons age. He doesn't live here and on the day in question, my daughter was at her Dad's.

I think it's cruel to call her a big fat liar though. That wasn't necessary @INeedAnotherName

It's fine, I suspect she is calling out everyone, I know it wasn't me. We introduced ourselves properly afterwards and shook hands.

Im happy just to wave when our paths cross.

Could you have misunderstood and she meant she had letters addressed to you and your address? Could the mail be from the council addressed to you and been posted incorrectly?

knockyknees · 20/06/2024 00:18

I'd call her bluff and ask to see the letters. No doubt she'll lie and say she's binned them or something.

I'd also be a bit wary of her. She sounds like she could be a bit of a shit stirrer, if she's (no doubt) lying to your face already.

MadameMassiveSalad · 19/06/2024 23:36

The council wouldn't tell them who made a complaint. That's bullshit.

MoMo999 · 19/06/2024 23:22

EsmeSusanOgg · 19/06/2024 20:07

You can make a Subject Access Request. It is possible they have incorrectly assigned someone complaint to your name. You can request that this put right/ records amended under GDPR.

Agree

ShinyGreenAngled · 19/06/2024 22:48

We once had a neighbour opposite us, horrible piece of work, who came to ask if we had complained to the council and to his employer about his works van parked around the corner to his house.

He was knocking on each house to ask. Not sure what kind of response he was expecting from the “guilty party”

I said no, that we had not made any complaints

And asked if he could think of a reason why we would complain about a van parked around the corner, next to someone else’s house. 🤣🤣

It was a lightbulb moment for him

GOTBrienne · 19/06/2024 22:47

No way would a council give out the complainants name, never. I am guessing it would be a breach of GDPR to do that?

Thegoodtomatosauce · 19/06/2024 22:39

Ilovegoldies · 19/06/2024 20:13

She's talking shite. I used to be a noise officer and we wouldn't ever give out names. I'd ring the council and they won't give you the name of the complainant but they can put you straight by confirming if there is a service request in your name.

Worked in a similar job and I agree. More likely is she's received a letter saying complaints have been made and is trying to flush out the complainant.

The council won't have sent letters with your name and address on so she's lying about that. Ask to read those letters and watch her go into a panic.

I would avoid her in future. Even if the complaint against her isn't true (eg the music wasn't loud or a one off party), she is still a big fat liar.

BobbyBiscuits · 19/06/2024 20:47

Definitely tell the council it wasn't you. If anything the original complainants won't be privy to any information and council could end up sending you loads of stuff about it?
If you're up front about how you didn't complain then hopefully you can be friends. Unless it could've been another member of your household? Unlikely.
