Would your husband…

I had accidentally put something in the dustbin today, needed it before bed (11:30) I told my husband who told me to go get it. It’s pitch black, almost midnight and the bin is at the end of the drive.

Would your husband ask you to go retrieve the item or would he go get it?

I don’t have a husband, but my partner would go and get it, without me asking. I’d likely have a little rage at myself about being stupid and he’d pop up with it before I’d had chance to get my shoes on, and I’d then be vaguely annoyed at him because I’m not incapable and now I have to feel silly for putting something in the bin and a bit guilty he had to go out for it, even though I never asked him to.

Nothing to do with it being dark as like pp I often go for walks alone in the dark, just because he likes to help.

I expect OH would but he probably wouldn't be pleased about it at 11.30 at night. I have (stupidly) been in that situation before and just went and got it myself, it didn't occur to me to ask somebody else to do it for me. It wouldn't bother me going out onto our property with a torch at night.

What would you do if you lived alone? You’d go get it yourself, you’d have no choice. I don’t understand why husband is expected to do it?
But I’ve been a single mum for 13 years and have to do everything myself, so maybe I’m missing the point of the post

Imnotarestaurant · 27/05/2024 00:05

I wouldn’t even ask him. Why can’t you get it yourself?

Justmuddlingalong · 27/05/2024 00:04

What's stopping you getting it yourself?

DeedlessIndeed · 27/05/2024 00:04

If I mentioned it, DH would get it for me.

However, I think I'd most likely go myself unless there was a specific reason I couldn't. It was my cock-up in the first place!

PickAChew · 27/05/2024 00:04

How long is your drive that it's too far for you to go, yourself, to fix the mistake you made?

MrsMammy · 27/05/2024 00:03

My husband would get it. He would worry I'd be murdered or something

steff13 · 27/05/2024 00:02

I wouldn't even ask him. But, I go outside all the time late at night. Sometimes I even take walks after dark. If I lived in a dangerous neighborhood I might not get it, I guess.

NewLifter · 27/05/2024 00:01

My husband would get it if I asked him to

BaronessBomburst · 26/05/2024 23:59

You put it in the bin, so you get it back.
You're just as capable of walking to the bin with a torch as he is.

MassiveOvaryaction · 26/05/2024 23:59

Your item that you put there? It's on you to go and get it. Same with his item you put there.

If he put it in the bin he should fetch it though.

Eta - that's what the response would be here.

Giraff3 · 26/05/2024 23:58

Mine would go and get it. Most likely so he can have a quick vape lol

Stompythedinosaur · 26/05/2024 23:58

My dp would probably get it if I asked him to, but I wouldn't ask him to unless I was sick or injured or something, if it had been my error to put it in there.

It's just as late and dark for him as it is me. If we were in an unsafe area, we'd just do without it until morning.

curlywurlymum · 26/05/2024 23:58

100% go get it himself
