Would your husband…

I had accidentally put something in the dustbin today, needed it before bed (11:30) I told my husband who told me to go get it. It’s pitch black, almost midnight and the bin is at the end of the drive.

Would your husband ask you to go retrieve the item or would he go get it?

My husband would.

TipsyKoala · 27/05/2024 08:03

If I’d put it in the bin, my mistake, I’d go and get it. I wouldn’t even ask husband. If he had put it in the bin he’d be digging it out himself.

InSpainTheRain · 27/05/2024 08:00

My husband would get it 100% sure.

elQuintoConyo · 27/05/2024 08:00

It is the Purge tomorrow?

I`d never ask. Just do it yourself.

Frogpole · 27/05/2024 07:46

Good grief, do women really despise each other this much? Why are you lot sicking your Chihuahuas on people like @Startrekkeruniverse (who I've never talked to and isn't known to me, for clarity)? Why are so many of you seething in uncontrollable rage because someone has a different life experience or opinion than your own?

What's the obsession with tearing each other down, and this race to the bottom competition of "durr, my husband hasn't emptied the bin since the battle of Hastings so you should delete your post!!!ONE!1!ELeVEN!!1".

For reference, if Mrs Frogpole put something in the bin then realised she needed it there wouldn't be a moment's though or discussion, I'd just go and get it - not that she's incapable or even phased about getting her hands dirty, it's just not a very nice job and I'd rather do it myself so she doesn't have to. When we've heard a noise in the night I go and look to see what it is.. because I couldn't just lay there waiting to see if anything bad happens to her, and also because there's a 18" difference in height between us and a 150lb weight difference, at which point it's just a matter of utility.

Whilst I'm sure that makes me guilty of itsism and means I'm an ismist, you really shouldn't be acting this way to each other. This isn't the oppression Olympics.

TubeScreamer · 27/05/2024 07:24

I would just have gone to get it. Wouldn’t have crossed my mind to ask dh to get it for me.

Lucyloo223 · 27/05/2024 07:18

I don't get this I'm a little helpless woman who can't get something out of the bin in the dark attitude.

Hateam · 27/05/2024 06:54

If some jobs around the house are men's jobs.

Doesn't it stand to reason that some jobs around the house are women's jobs?

lisaAnne86 · 27/05/2024 06:48

He would totally tell me to go get it 🥴😅

I want to know what was accidentally put in the bin, and then is required at 11:30 at night.

My guess is a toothbrush! 😁

I'm going with vibrator or diaphragm.

Why can't you go and retrieve the item you yourself actually chucked out (u less you've already changed for bed etc and your DH has not)?

Thriving30 · 27/05/2024 06:35

35mph · 27/05/2024 06:35

But thinking about it, I don't think I ever have asked OH to make me a cup of tea! We've offered but not asked

I'm always asking dh to make tea. I lay in wait until he goes into the kitchen and shout "Are you putting the kettle on"? Fait accompli. Never fails.

SapphireSlippers · 27/05/2024 06:32

Why do you think he should go @Sunflower8710

CurlewKate · 27/05/2024 06:30

@KThnxBye "I don’t have a husband, but my partner would go and get it, without me asking. I’d likely have a little rage at myself about being stupid and he’d pop up with it before I’d had chance to get my shoes on, and I’d then be vaguely annoyed at him because I’m not incapable and now I have to feel silly for putting something in the bin and a bit guilty he had to go out for it, even though I never asked him to."

I can SO relate to this! 🤣

OmuraWhale · 27/05/2024 06:25

I'd just do it myself. It wouldn't really occur to me to ask him.

PuttingDownRoots · 27/05/2024 06:23

DH weekly commutes. I have to do a lot of things for myself and DDs, even if I don't like them. It can be dark by 4pm in winter here... I still pop to the shop, walk around the village, pick DD up from school, that sort of thing.

I do understand the fear though... mine is being trapped with a man after similar things. So I don't like being in a lift at night, preferring the stairs, or getting taxis.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 27/05/2024 06:13

rosaleetree · 27/05/2024 06:10

Yes, he would do if I asked him to. But I wouldn't, I'd do it myself as I am a grown adult and not helpless and if it's my fault I put something in the bin then I'd get it.

PostMenPatWithACat · 27/05/2024 06:08

My DH would have been asleep at 11.30. I'd have been glad as he would think I was a total numpty for throwing away something important. He'd think me an even bigger numpty for being too pathetic to retrieve something I'd thrown away and in the daaaaaaark!

This thread really hits home why the road to equality has been so hard and why women still aren't equal.

The worst thing that would happen here is that one of the neighbours would call the police because a potential criminal was rooting through bins to steal identities!

C1N1C · 27/05/2024 06:08

Despite being quite split, there's a 'vibe' in here that many feel bins are innately a man's job. Fair comment?

We split bin activities... If I happen to be doing the dishes, my wife will do the bins, and vice versa. Although one time we had my wife's friend over and my wife was doing the bins and it was 'shock horror'... doesn't your husband do those?!

Dentistlakes · 27/05/2024 05:53

He probably wouldn’t volunteer to get it unless I asked him to or I was in my pyjamas.

WiddlinDiddlin · 27/05/2024 04:10

Too much relevant information not provided here.

Mine would, but then he'd be the one to put something in the bin as I can't get to our bin to put things in or take them out.

@Sunflower8710 IS your drive 9 miles long? Do you live in an area where there are bears/man eating tigers/other massive risks? Do you have some reason to be unable to go out in the dark yourself?

These are the details that determine whether he is BU or not.

Mothership4two · 27/05/2024 04:02

Did you put up a post about it @holidaydramalama? Sounds vaguely familiar.

TBH I wouldn't wake OH to check on a noise either

Guavafish1 · 27/05/2024 03:56

He probably get it but the moaning after would put me off. So I'd never ask him to do it.

Save me hours of earache
