I don't want to make this too specific because then it would be a TAAT, but to give a general example: OP starts a thread that says something like 'I went to an expensive seafood restaurant and I was served stale bread, warm wine and I think that one of the oysters was past its best. The staff were unhelpful and I think I should message their head office. How should I go about it'.
INVARIABLY, someone will come along and say 'I hate seafood. YABU to go to a seafood restaurant.' Then someone else will come along and say 'YABU to eat somewhere expensive in a COL crisis. And what about the situation in Gaza/Sudan/Ukraine/Wherever'.
It is so so annoying and people do it all the bloody time on here. AIBU to find this so annoying?

It's a public forum, an entertainment. People can write what they like until they break the forum rules.

Or offend the pedants.😁

If a mother is using heroin and neglecting their children, its nobody else's business, keep out of it, don't report it, live and let live according to MN.

allgroyellow · 02/05/2024 23:16

well, if that is your response, i would suggest the problem is with you, rather than with anyone else

Nah I think it's with posters like you. And I quite agree.

MeinKraft · 14/06/2024 23:29

Anyone: does anything

MN: could they be neurodiverse? Sounds exactly like my autistic child/husband/neighbours sister.

Lollypop701 · 14/06/2024 23:25

I’m just wondering if the reason you are all being so aggressive/nasty/gas lighting bitches from hell is because you all have dementia… it’s the first stages I’ve been told (tbh I’m just a bitch…..😂)

I can't bare them OP. My advise is to take a deep breathe so you don't loose your shit. But you should of brought some imiodum if you was going to eat oysters.

I need to stab my eyes out after reading that. 😂

Nobody said they couldn't.

OP, YANBU. It particularly annoys me when someone posts something like that, and another poster ends up having a lengthy and bitter argument with them about it, completely ignoring what the thread is actually about. Eg:

OP: Looking for some advice here. My 12-year-old had a really bad day at school, he is having a few issues with a couple of bullies in his year and he also lost his place on the football team so he was in a really bad mood. He was eating his after school snack just now and his little sister was winding him up and calling him names. He completely lost it called her a cunt and threw his slice of cake at her. Obviously this isn't OK and we've sent him to his room and taken away his phone but the chocolate icing has made a mark on the wall and DH thinks DS should have to pay for it to be cleaned. I said that's too harsh, especially as DD was also at fault. DH has now started divorce proceedings and set fire to our shed in anger and to make matters worse, I've just found out I'm pregnant with quadruplets. Thinking of ending it all at this point, Please help.

Reply1: Off topic but chocolate cake is a really bad after school snack. Try something like hummus and veggie sticks instead of ultra-processed crap full of sugar

Reply2: Chocolate cake is perfectly fine in moderation, I make a really lovely one that's all organic. No kid wants to eat veggie sticks

Reply1: It's not fine, you are literally poisoning your child if you feed them refined sugar, there is research to prove this. It's only because people stuff their kids full of crap from birth that they don't like vegetables, my child prefers celery to a Twix

Reply2: My child ALSO likes celery but he also enjoys a treat and I don't think there's anything wrong with an occasional slice of homemade cake, you're batshit if you think it's poison

Reply1: I would actually say that feeding children sugar is a safeguarding issue

etc etc for another 97 posts

Love this!!!!!!!!!😂😂

It’s all very well you trying to police people’s postings and opinions, but I’m surprised you have the headspace to do this given the coral reef bleaching crisis. Time to get your priorities straight.

After reading this thread, I've just read the one from a woman in the US who wants to leave her loser husband while she has an 8 week old.
Idiots are now questioning whether she really had her pubes shaved for a c-section, as its not what happened to them in the UK. Even though other US posters are saying they had it done, and it's not the fucking reason the OP posted!!

This kind of shit is rife on here: 'I must get one up on the OP'.
Sure, that's really helpful, why don't you just keep shtum for once?

MagpiePi · 03/05/2024 15:04

Have you not considered that the chef at the restaurant has ADHD/mental health issues? And I nearly died in a seafood restuarant becasue I'm allergic to shellfish, your post should have a trigger warning.

But seriously, just move house and get a different job.

They can, but it does need to be relevant.

No point whining on about privilege or problems in Gaza, when someone wants an opinion on some shoes.

But what if it's about sandals?

What? Your 12 year old has a phone? Sounds like he might be addicted to it.

@SabreIsMyFave I had both of those ('is this all you have to worry about' plus 'there are people dying in Gaza and this is your focus??' type responses - can't remember the exact words as it was deleted at my request) on the same thread.

No, I have a life limiting illness, my dad has cancer, my husband and I are in the process of splitting up and I've been made redundant and have no money. Forgive me if I want to have a bit of a whinge about my friend mildly annoying me to distract me from all the other crap in my life!
