To think it's not weird, creepy or disrespectful to go for a walk around a cemetery

Told a friend I went for a walk in a local cemetery. She thinks it's creepy and disrespectful. I think it's a nice quet place to take a walk.

Admittedly I also like looking at old headstones, but I feel like reading the names and dates is acknowledging that person's life and is not disrespectful.

The cemetery in question is old, and no longer accepts burials but is open to the public. However, I've also walked around open cemeteries.

What do you think? Creepy ot not?

Not creepy. I was visiting my Mum, Dad and Sisters resting place and there was a teenage boy smoking a joint by his aunts spot, he lit one for her and was chatting away. She died young so it's his way of grieving bless him. They're very peaceful places.

Unless you missed out the part where you told your friend you danced on the graves or shagged against the headstones I can't see why any sane person would think you're weird. Your friend on the other hand sounds bonkers.

Ooh, actuallty, I was naked. Do you think that's the problem?

I do it all the time, no cars, birds to hear, nice trees to look at, etc etc much better than walking on the road pavement 🤷🏻‍♀️

Don't know if it's "normal" but I like graveyards and find them peaceful.

Totally normal. Cemeteries can be lovely.

Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris is full of famous people and many people & tourists go specifically to view the tombs.

It's your friend who's weird about this, not you

As long as there's not actually a burial in progress I'd say it's fine. I'd feel uneasy if there was a funeral happening with mourners there, like I was intruding at a private time, but any other time as long as you keep to the paths I don't see an issue.

Perfectly fine. Just be careful to avoid walking on any graves or above where someone might be buried.

Think how many people visit the cemetery near MN Towers.

I did an academic study on this, albeit on a small scale. I found more people used cemeteries for walks than for visiting particular graves.

I walk a lot. Old graveyards are a regular stopping point. Always something of interest amidst the lingering grief. Only disrespectful if you act in a disrespectful way.
