Thinking that women would benefit if they were more open minded about height in a potential partner…

… and not write off the majority of men who are under 6 foot (85%).

Women seem to be fighting for a small proportion of men - with the disappointment that will inevitably bring to the many who inevitably won’t succeed. Of course, it’s even crapper for the good,
but short, men out there.

Of course, we all fancy who we fancy, and I’m not saying we should date shorter (or even average!) men out of pity or a “sense of fairness”, but how much of women’s desire to bag a tall guy is actually societal, and down to how they think other women will view them?

What about when you are in a supermarket?

You borrow my husband (6'4").

Lots of women do. Sometimes I even offer him - I should charge, really.

What women do you know in real life?

This made me laugh out loud!

I'd imagine she has. But its easier to date a tall guy than to faff about fetching one for
a short guy to stand on.

blackheartsgirl · 31/10/2024 20:54

Im 5 foot 7
DH was 5 feet 4

didnt bother me in the slightest.

an ex of mine was 5 six

i find small men really attractive.

Im not sure why, I just do.

really tall men just don’t do it for me

Any dumber than wanting a taller man than yourself so you can feel "petite"?

11oclockrock · 31/10/2024 09:26

I think this is much more of a "thing" on dating apps, where there is a filter right there on the screen, than in real life.

I do also think there is a stereotype of the ideal / highest status couple being a massive tall rugby player type with a tiny, petite blonde woman. See - Love Island

Being 5 foot 1 it’s easy for me to say a man’s height isn’t important. However I had a couple of dates with someone 6 foot 5 and it was difficult. Purely my problem i felt like a child walking next to him

For me it's more that I have no real attraction to someone until I've got an emotional connection with them, rather than withholding sex as quite rightly could be something people do for however long feels right to them. It's that I guess I could look at a person and appreciate they might be handsome/pretty, but they have no sexual appeal until further down the line. Admittedly it makes dating difficult - I go on a first date on the basis that they're a nice person whose interests are similar to me, as I don't feel attraction to looks

Yes, that's just normal for a lot of people.

Demisexual is just normal female sexuality and appropriate boundaries. It's not a special identity in my mind, and would apply to 90% of Mumsnet, even the boring older ones not the bright young things. I'm a bit sad for women today that they need a special label to hide behind so they can justify not having sex with strangers.

It's a very similar mentality to the op, trying to get us to overlook our prejudice and go against our own preferences.

No women shouldn't have to dish out sex to people they don't know, don't fancy, are the wrong sex etc. No lesbians aren't bigots for not saying no to penis and women aren't wrong for withholding sex from 'nice guys'.

Honestly world is going backwards.

DH is shorter than me and markedly shorter when I'm in heels. Doesn't bother us one bit but it is definitely a thing for other people. When we first started dating so many people would question how I could date someone shorter than me. Simple, he's funny, kind and generous in all senses of the word and that made him all the more physically attractive to me.

The same with my late husband. We reckoned that it was other people's problem, not ours.

I read somewhere (can't remember where, can't be arsed to Google just now...) that men and women of the same height, women would usually have longer legs/shorter body compared to the men.

Edited

That makes sense.

My dad and I had the same length of legs. (I know because I had to buy his clothes for him latterly.) However, I'm just short of 5ft 9 and Dad was 5ft11.

Sweden99 · 20/04/2024 20:18

@EBearhug, It is why men of the same height will look shorter.
As a man, I am closer to 5'11", but always put 5'10" for OLD to make up for the proportions.

Ridiculously long. Somewhat out of proportion really but I love him all the same.

I’ll say it again leg length and height are not always correlated.

True. In his younger days DH shared a house with a guy who was exactly the same height (v.tall) but had a longer body & shorter legs. I prefer DH's proportions.

Height is a big thing with men. They are sensitive about it.

Attending not attention. It's ok though as I'm identifying as someone who can spell.
