Sciatica /slipped disc

Posting here for volume of answers.
Yesterday I moved normally and my lower back suddenly felt like it was being compressed and the pain was awful. Since then pain down one leg. The pain is like cramp but the worst cramp ever. Leg is much worse than back.
I have been screaming all night, literally in so much pain I couldn’t help it, worse than child birth. Couldn’t sit, lay or even perch. Even standing which was when it was best, it was at 9 out of 10. Hubby called 111 and paramedics were sent as I had a pulmonary embolism in Jan and I was screaming with the leg pain and he wanted to be sure it wasn’t that again. They told me to take codiene and paracetamol but it’s not doing anything really significant. They said it was sciatica, possible slipped disc causing it. What can I do to calm the pain. Obviously I’ll call dr tomorrow. Can’t take nsaids as I’m on blood thinners for blood clots. I’ve had no sleep either. Can’t use topical creams for the same reason. Anyone had similar? Can anyone tell me what worked for you? Can’t stand for days though I can just about not cry if I stand. Can’t lay to sleep. Help please? I’m exhausted but the pain won’t let me lay or sit. How long will this go on for?

So who is best at reading mris, the person giving the report or the dr on call?

My apologies. I have spinal issues, and I know that A&E do perform MRI's in certain situations.

A lot of people think that if they go to A&E they will 'bypass' the system. Obviously this is often not the case.

I saw the post directed at the family member, and the post about MNHQ not allowing deletion of your thread, and thought it all sounded a bit off.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't be policing anyone's pain, medical conditions or threads.

You have my utmost sympathy. OP. As I say, I'm in a similar boat with spinal issues, and wouldn't wish them on anyone.

Allofaflutter · 04/05/2024 20:03

That says I should have had the mri at A&E. why do they have these guidelines if they don’t follow them?

Jaffa I love you! Jaffa cakes have always been my fav thing, now I know why!
that’s so useful. I can show it to Gp and say they need to do something.

A&E don't do MRI's. They refer onwards.

This thread is very strange.

I’ve had MRIs at A&E as well - I mean obviously the actual MRI scanner isn’t in A&E but they send yon and it’s their time slot you go in.

When you say strange are you saying I’m making it all up? Why would I do that ffs.

Jaffaisitacakeorbiscuit · 04/05/2024 19:49

@RainbowZebraWarrior Emergency head and spinal MRIs are done in many A&E Departments for time critical neurological events eg cauda equina syndrome

They said they were going to then the dr asked his higher up and he said no so they must do them in A&E just not for me.

A+E certainly can and do MRIs unfortunately with current he'd pressures they often don't nowadays
OP I wish you well. With the scan findings posted earlier you should have this operated on. Keep pushing your GP.

Please can I message you ?

She’s using my threads as proof. I asked Mumsnet to remove them but they won’t.

She always does. She’s now contacted my other family members spreading poison. Apparently I’m just faking to get attention and drugs and I’ll take any money and use it for drugs. She’s even contacted my husbands brother saying the same.

I'm so sorry this has happened. Take care @Allofaflutter I hope you get some help soon & feel better. You've had such a rough time of it, it's awful that someone is causing trouble on top of everything you are going through.

Allofaflutter · 04/05/2024 19:05

Unfortunately my parents spent a lot of their money trying to help my sister and have ended up with very little. They just don’t have it to give to me in full. I feel bad even asking after seeing what my only sibling has done to them over the years.

I’m going to report this thread.
i estranged family member has found this and is now causing huge issues in my family. I asked my parents for money and now that person is saying if I have it they want it too and much worse. I appreciate each and everyone of you all.

I'm sorry this has happened. I'd give my children money if they were in bad health as you are.

Allofaflutter · 04/05/2024 18:32

Fuck off Lily and stop reading my thread. Mum won’t give you another penny. You had your money when she paid for rehab and then what did you do, leave so wasted it.

Also I’ve had it pointed out as I’m so high risk private won’t operate either.
so I guess I’m stuck like this. I’m only 4ft 10 and have a high bmi . I’ve always said I’m too short for my height.

@Allofaflutter OP, the start of your thread was exactly me two months ago. I'm not in your country but GP referred me for an MRI and sent results of that to an orthopaedic surgeon. Had a consultation with him yesterday and he sent me straight to A&E with a letter. Got operated on last night, messaging you here from the hospital bed!

If I had've went to A&E from the start, I'd be far down the recovery road now. I definitely think go back.

@Allofaflutter for the Norwich hospital and others there's an app you can download for waiting times. Reading online your hospital does well. I'd download the app. You'll only be seeing junior registrar staff though. My friend has two sons juniors who are working all over this weekend because higher ups are off

What app? Thanks.

OP posts:
Allofaflutter · 04/05/2024 14:50

Yes I’m not seeing a dr wet behind the ears. There’s no point seeing a nhs dr until at least Tuesday. The higher ups are the ones I want.
