Things you used to like despite DP mocking them, but which they have now commandeered and got waaaaay too into. Mine:

Trademe (NZ ebay) - Place is starting to look like a used car yard.
Shakti mat - Now thinks he's some sort of bloody yogi and it's the cure for anything that ails him.
St John's Wort - ditto, cure for everything.
Nutrient Rescue Shots (powdered greens) - has declared he doesn't need to eat veg anymore as he has these (mine) instead. 🙄

Surely it's not just me ladies? 😅

Rabbits
DH is a vet and often we foster or rehabilitate animals that have come into his workplace. One day a stray bunny was dropped off and had babies over night. I said I would foster them at home so they were all here for several weeks. Rehomed them all and he missed them so badly that when more stray bunnies came in he had to have them. Now we have a massive shed and run in the garden, he dotes on them. Got yet another stray bun in last week and I had to say NO, but he kept sending me videos of how cute it was hopping round his consult room. We have a lot of animals but the rabbits are his babies and he would fill the place given chance.

Cocktails

used to have just a bottle of nice gin on the side.

Now there's a whole cocktail trolley with all the equipment and a good range of spirits and mixers. Also a nice selection of glasses. Used to be a couple of tumbles and two odd shaped wine glasses

Not me, but Pokemon bastard Go. DH works with disabled adults and one bloke was recommended it to encourage him to walk. He’s bored with it now but dh is obsessed. And (grown) ds.He’s got a catcher, weekends are dictated if there’s an event on. He bloody spends money on it! We(rest of family) are incredibly bored by them going on and on.

😂

This thread is funny.

I started duolingo French in lockdown and encouraged dh to do the same. Now he’s really strict on doing it daily and is always sending me high fives and other motivational crapHmmSmile

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/04/2024 08:31

I created one - out of papier-mâché.

But that was years ago.

Shouldigoforarunorhavepancakes · 08/04/2024 08:16

I was the plant lover in the house. I had so many and I was very happy and proud about it. Somehow, he started to create moss poles and jars and bonsais…Now all house is full with his “babies”. I honestly feel robbed (although I enjoy having lots of plants around).

Carnivore diet.

He buys a half cow and butchers it himself. Bought a chest freezer for the garage for said mountain of cow. We have a plancha, a standard bbq and a smoker in the garden. He has 3 Bluetooth meat thermometers and a dehydrator to make his own jerky.

Plus he’s the leanest and strongest he’s ever been. Bastard has abs. Meanwhile I’m just trying to keep my autoimmune disease in remission 🤪

Hahaha! Sounds like a Kiwi bloke. Mine used to be a normal Brit from the corporate world. 1 year after shift to semi rural NZ and he was all about the Redbands and home kill.

I came onto the thread to say "gentle parenting"....

😂😂😂😂 Me too!

WonderingWanda · 08/04/2024 08:06

Gin, it was me that drank the gin, me who collected different brands and flavours and now he drinks them all before I get a look in.

In our house the best example is probably coffee. He didn't touch it before we met unless he required it to stay awake. He now grinds his own beans from local roasteries and has a fancy coffee maker. I am however perfectly in support of his coffee conversion process, especially when me makes it for me!

Similar to mine.
I used to tease him about drinking instant coffee and refuse to allow him to serve it to guests.
Now, it’s a thing of his… ironic, because, sadly, I can no longer drink coffee.
(He does make me tea though)

Daffodilsandbagels · 08/04/2024 07:57

Houseplants. When we met he had one tiny cactus in his room that he totally ignored and only got water by being given very occasional dregs of cold tea (or beer). I had lovely big houseplants and he really got into them and fusses over them constantly — and weirdly, treats me like I’m borderline incompetent to look after them?! (He doesn’t do this about anything else, don’t worry! He’s not undermining me in a proper way, he’s just fucking annoying on this topic haha.)

CarrieMoonbeams · 08/04/2024 07:50

Oh my goodness @Greenleavesandgrass , I've just looked at a picture of giant millipedes and actually laughed out loud, they look fantastic! 🤩 Are they really tickly when they walk up your arm?

My friend created a monster in a similar way, but for her it was because she was brought up to be terrified of spiders, snails, moths etc and she didn't want to put those fears on to her daughter in turn. She worked so incredibly hard to conquer her fears, and now her DD is 12 and has a tarantula and several giant African land snails! (I'm not too bad with the tarantula myself but just can't allow the snails to touch me!)

Edited to add, sorry it's not a DP thing, I got excited about the millipedes!

Upsidedownlife · 08/04/2024 07:46

I don’t live with my long term partner so he has copied things from me in his house.
Aquarium keeping. He got a bigger and better fish tank in his house and his tank inhabitants are more dramatic.

I gave him some of my sourdough starter and now he’s making bigger and better loaves.

Noicant · 08/04/2024 07:39

Oh and low carb, Dh lost a ton of weight and I’m still fat. Wtf.

Noicant · 08/04/2024 07:36

Actually gentle parenting too lol. I think I’m going to cry if I hear “behaviour is communication” one more time. He spends a lot of time acknowledging her feelings. He went from victorian dad to hippy within the time it took for her to be born. It’s ok he cracked and made a star chart for behaviour.

imforeverblowingbuttons · 08/04/2024 05:57

Exercise. I got really into my health and encouraged dh . He's now lost 3 stone (weighs less than me sob) tracings 5x a week. Makes protien shakes. Won't touch sugar. It's so dull.

ohpumpkinseeds · 08/04/2024 05:50

I created a formula 1 monster. DH never watched it until he met me, whereas I've watched it all my life. Whereas now he watches it and goes away with the "lads" for F1 weekends while I have the kids Confused

Dunnoburt · 08/04/2024 05:32

Can't believe I'm admitting this......Made In Chelsea (used to be my guilty pleasure and now I am not allowed to watch alone! 🤣)

Cycling...

I cycled to work and back, started cycling a bit further, started a little cycling group though a.SW group I was kart if, used to go for weekly rides 7-10 miles etc. DH came along one time in his old mountain bike.

Next week he had a road bikes lycra,.new helmet.... Month later ride London to Brighton... Year later ride Lands End to John O'groats in 9 days.

Spear bedroom has a carbon bike and a trainer in it, I am subjected to Strava timings, should I do this race? Shall I do that? PBs etc.

I don't even have a bike anymore!!

Gotta love those MAMILs! 🤣

I encouraged dds bug obsession and now share my home with a giant millipede, a praying mantis, a collection of flower beetles and about a million isopods. Its a surprisingly expensive hobby.
