Things you used to like despite DP mocking them, but which they have now commandeered and got waaaaay too into. Mine:

Trademe (NZ ebay) - Place is starting to look like a used car yard.
Shakti mat - Now thinks he's some sort of bloody yogi and it's the cure for anything that ails him.
St John's Wort - ditto, cure for everything.
Nutrient Rescue Shots (powdered greens) - has declared he doesn't need to eat veg anymore as he has these (mine) instead. 🙄

Surely it's not just me ladies? 😅

@Shezlong She's a lot of cat in a little body. Her full-body strops and protests when its rained all day are oscar-worthy.

Gentle parenting doesn't produce monsters in children. Permissive and lazy parenting produces monsters.

Potato potarto 😂

Its not a human, but...

A few months ago I rescued this cat:
https://imgur.com/a/0ZAInk6

She's really hyperactive and really intelligent, and her favourite thing is being outdoors. My other cat is averagely actively, not particularly intelligent, and can take or leave outdoors so she's been quite a challenge, though she's wonderful. She'll even go out in the rain as long as its not torrential. I bring her in when it starts getting dark. She normally comes when I call but she knows that if I call her at 5-6pm the window is getting closed and her outdoor fun is over for the day. So she sits on the fence and peers and me. And then she started this thing. And its the only way to get her in. I have to go outside and say

"Yay Winnie, so lovely, so clever, etc etc" in a high pitched excited voice, like for a dog. She sits and looks at me. And then I turn around. Whilst my back is turned, she sneaks up on me. Then I turn back around and she freezes, like the traffic light game. Then I turn around again and say, "Yay, Winnie, so lovely, so clever, she's the best" etc etc etc, and she sneaks closer. And I have to keep doing this until she's right next to me, turn around a final time, and then she jumps up to be grabbed and carried indoors. Every day. In winter. Rain included.

I don't know how this happened and now I can't undo it.

This is hilarious! Clever Winnie getting you so well trained 😸

TRACKOK · 29/10/2024 09:52

Like a PP it's cocktails. When we met she thought they were ridiculous and ludicrously expensive and found it hilarious I had cocktail ingredients and equipment. Now she's always searching for random bottles of alcohol to make a recipe she's found online and constantly reorganising the cocktail cabinet to fit everything in.
In exchange she's changed me to a coffee wanker and we grind our expensive single origin beans daily to use in one of the 4 ways we have of making coffee and go to the sort of cafés where you discuss beans with the barista and pay £3.50 for a babychino. My in-laws are visiting for half-term and it feels like the grinder is going constantly but I can't complain because my father-in-law keeps bringing me delicious (decaf) coffee while I'm stuck under a baby going through a leap and cluster feeding.

I love this thread although I don't think OH has caught anything off me 😅 although it's maki me realise there's not much for him to catch! I need some hobbies and interests away from the kids and my phone!

I came onto the thread to say "gentle parenting"....

Gentle parenting doesn't produce monsters in children. Permissive and lazy parenting produces monsters.

This is so very true.

I encouraged my dh to start running in lockdown and now he’s a total running wanker 🤦‍♀️ complete with “recovery run” strava status, energy gels, and discussing his split times (which he likes to do last thing at night when he looks at his phone and likes to talk me through it….). He’s done one race, 18 months ago, and he talks about it like he’s Mo Farrah-

I’m actually a runner myself, and I’m quite fast, and I’m not an #RW

Cheese. Bastard, that was my thing.

JustWalkingTheDogs · 29/10/2024 07:05

Horses! As a Christmas Eve activity I booked my dd a riding lesson, she was 6 at the time. I'm now the proud owner, of yet another horse, and currently waiting to take my dd to the yard to sort my, sorry her horse! She's now 16.

My dh and dogs. When we met I had a dog and he disliked dogs, we now have 3 who I think he loves more than me and dd (and the bloody horses), and who follow him round like loves young dream. He won't go abroad now as he doesn't want to leave the dogs Confused

cooldarkroom · 29/10/2024 07:04

Chocolate. Mine. Always.
He would make remarks about cost, health, weight, skin. All whilst scoffing charcuterie & expensive cheese.
Now hear him sneaking to the fridge/drawer, "I'll just have a little bit of chocolate".
Then eats a mega amount, sometimes leaves one square...
So as PP. I hide my stash now. Now it's me thats stealth sneaking about.
So its no simple pleasure any more.

Jollofoldmaninaredsuit · 29/10/2024 06:58

I don't have a partner but a close friend. When we met she had never lived on her own, been to London twice, very sheltered, conservative sort of tastes (korma was spicy) and didn't have any political leanings.
One year on she is a sushi eating, very left leaning, city girl who goes to protests and wants to live abroad.
That's all great but it's the mansplaining back to me! Do I know what unconscious bias is? Have I tried sashimi? Do I know about the dirty margaritas in x bar? I mean I'm old and don't go out now but I feel her discovery of these things quite endearing.

scalt · 29/10/2024 06:39

Netball.

Started out with a beginner's session: DP who had never enjoyed any competitive sport got involved, and decided it was fun. He couldn't take part in my "back to netball" session for women only, so he played in mixed (men and women) teams, and is now an umpire.

Anxiouswaffle · 29/10/2024 06:17

I have had vertigo forever. DP was always fine (used to do mountaineering ffs)- then suddenly decided that he didn't like it so everytime we need to do something involving heights eg taking DS round a castle - i have to do it!

imip · 29/10/2024 06:08

Nothing… and I realise that is actually rather disappointing!

I got into his running bug for a bit and beat him in a marathon.

oh, maybe travel. I had travelled a lot before meeting him and he really wanted to travel. We have done a lot together. He is still really up for far flung destinations (and we love half a world away from where we grew up).

Thank God I realised there was something!

Chocolate. DP is, apparently someone who doesn't have a sweet tooth. Or rather didn't have a sweet tooth. I had to start hiding the good stuff. Now I only buy white chocolate because he won't touch it.

Same! New season next week Grin

GingerIsBest · 08/04/2024 18:03

This is hilarious.

When I met DH he drank a lot of coffee, all instant. I found that weird. I'm a one cup of coffee, but it better be a bloody good cup, kind of gal. Now he has meltdowns if there isn't the right coffee, has a poncy little espresso maker that he is always leaving lying around. it's relentless.

DD. Glorious sleeper. Fell asleep so quickly and easily that she would pass out before we could even get her into bed. Covid happened so we'd cuddle her becuase it's not like we had anything better to do and it only took 15 minutes... She's 9 now. I've managed to wean her off going to sleep with me (finally) but she has total meltdowns if she's awake and the rest of us want to go to bed and then gets herslef into such a state she cant sleep for hours. I. Am. An. Idiot.

Dh would say the dog. They didn't get on that well so he decided he had to improve things so he started giving her a little treat whenever he came in from work. Now she hounds him every time he steps through the door - even if he only went out to take the bins!

babaisyou · 08/04/2024 17:58

I started intermittent fasting... did it for about 2 weeks before giving up.

My DH latched on, has been doing it for about a year and raving about the health benefits😅

fieldsofbutterflies · 08/04/2024 17:56

Cheese!

He used to hate everything except for mozzarella and really mild cheddar. Now he eats all my expensive stuff and complains if we don't have any Grin

Thefutureisourownpath · 08/04/2024 17:50

he’s an ex now

  1. crossword - he never did the crossword and then he started and every day got it before me and did it bastard
  2. he brought more expensive wellies and outdoor stuff than me - difference is his was immaculate and non muddy I was covered in mud and had them for a reason
  3. organisation I was organised think plugs labelled and stuff in container - he took it to another compulsive level - if you removed a can of beans you had to knock it off the excel sheet in real time it was shit to live with
  4. Matching money on hobbies err he totally up mine and the kids activities and then shifted the same out of the joint account to spend on himself and his hobbies - considering I earns twice his wage this pissed me off considerably especially since the children’s stuff came off my side as apparently he was happy taking them to the park
wanker….
queenofthewild · 08/04/2024 17:37

I bought DH a homebrew kit in lockdown. Thought it would be like a nice grown up soda stream thing for him.

It's now a bloody obsession. There are always 3 barrels in various states of readiness. Every spare corner of kitchen is a dumping ground for brewing paraphernalia. The airing cupboard is a bottling plant.

And he makes sourdough from the dregs.

It's a full time project.
