Aibu to ask if you have a famous DH

Does it bother you? I have a semi famous DH, he gets paid to gig and go on podcasts etc if we go out locally he does get asked for selfies so we tend to go away for weekends as a family.

I do find it slightly annoying but I guess it pays the bills 💃

Enjoy it while it lasts. I have a friend who is married to a bloke who was a regular in a show which was on telly through the 90s and early 00s. He’s a total has-been now, hasn’t worked in over 10 years other than a couple of episodes of Casualty, barely anyone recognizes him anymore and she’s been having to support him ever since.

Hollyoaks?

This thread is reminding me of the DH who was doing a T Rex in Asda - the OP is making little sense.

I laughed so much at that thread I started wheezing 😂

I think it is the worst thing of all to be "semi-famous", because they are the ones you see featured in local newspaper reports: "Former DJ now looking a shadow of himself" or "Former DJ forced to sign on at job centre" or "Former DJ seen looking the worse for wear after pre-Christmas drinks at WI Institute".... The next generation do not know who it is and the only value is to "knock them down" or laugh at them (the way the Daily Mail says someone who is looking particularly awful or fat that day is "looking effortlessly elegant" just to get the comments going).

If you have the chance to trade up, this is the only example when I really would encourage you (or someone else) to "marry for material purposes", because the very top famous people tend to be really nice, lesser "famous" people - not quite so much...

I agree. When the paps don't come running to your door, but rather you have to get right up near them and shout "I do hope those awful photographers aren't watching me!" - it's never going to end in the most flattering of headlines.

Then again, even big stars have long click-baity YouTube videos made about them, proclaiming 'Fall from grace: The very sad end of X' - and it's just the 'story' of how a film icon from the 60s is now nearly 90 and enjoying their twilight years sitting happily by a lake somewhere hot and drinking cocktails, rather than still appearing in adrenaline-fueled action scenes.

B1anche · 30/03/2024 00:16

I've never been out with any one remotely famous but, in the nineties, I had a boyfriend who was very good looking and looked like someone who is very famous. I absolutely hated it because, when we were out, girls would constantly come up to him and tell him he looked like this famous person and flirt with him and literally push me out of the way! He lapped up the attention and I finished with him in the end. I can't imagine how people who are with genuinely famous partners manage to deal with it.

PrincessOlga · 30/03/2024 00:11

My DH is not famous, but does have the same name as a rather vile mass murderer from the early 20th century (not Jack the Ripper). I suggested we change our surname. The name is actually very common, but it would be like making a bit of a statement, wouldn't it?

Nomorecoconutboosts · 30/03/2024 00:10

I was on the BBC once but didn’t know till afterwards. It was in Bridgend me and my whole family walking down the road so you could see all of the back of us apparently. BBC Wales so even more special as I have Welsh heritage.
sadly no one videoed it and no one asked for my autograph but if anyone wants it now (43 years later) please just say.

Where does she keep it?

I think it’s just tucked away on a bookshelf.

Don’t mean to piss on your chips OP, but my DH is actually famous, as he was on Fun House with Pat Sharp, so I’m afraid I win 🤷‍♀️ The fame has made our lives borderline unbearable, but I forbear…

My sons picture was in the local paper three times in a year when he was 5 from various things at school and its been really difficult for us all to handle the fame its brought us all as a family, 11 years down the line and we still can't nip in to town quickly without him being stopped repeatedly. Its a hard life fame. Maybe need to look in to getting him sponsored.

My DH has been on Crimewatch 3 times. Does that count?

Police officer, actor in reconstructions or criminal?!

DCI on Major Crime Unit. Each time it was for a murder. His first time he was interviewed by poor Jill Dando The second time he was interviewed by Fiona Bruce whilst the biggest bluebottle fly crawled all over his forehead. How he managed to keep going I will never know.

Ah, thanks - so at least he was on the right side, then!

Does your name begin with Se and end with nteen? If so, you are an absolute legend!

No it doesn’t 😂
but I am a legend 🤣 I was one of the people who had something ‘go wrong’ that the numberjacks had to fix

I was in Numberjacks and the episode still airs every now and again! Luckily my fans know how to control themselves around me and don’t bring too much attention when they see me out and about.

I loved Mallet's mallet. I must show it to DS. He'd crease.

I met him on a plane coming from Hamburg once!

Two threads on this semi famous sponsored DH. I would go the whole hog and do an AMA

Haaaaaaa

MaybeRevisitYourWipingT3chnique · 30/03/2024 00:00

I don't want to be too outing, so let's just say... my name is Mrs Pickering and my DH shares the same name as both men in a top comedy double act from a few decades back.

He was already a celebrity in our town, but since then he's become a top YouTube star and everyday life is just horrendous, with all the fans. For some bizarre reason that I've never been able to fathom, they always seem to do owl impressions and shout "Whoooo" whenever they see him. Maybe they're taunting him because, owing to his immense fame, he can now only come out at night?

My friend won an Oscar but sadly isn’t sponsored or available for spinning the decks at the Y6 disco.

Does that still count?

Where does she keep it?
