Aibu to ask if you have a famous DH

Does it bother you? I have a semi famous DH, he gets paid to gig and go on podcasts etc if we go out locally he does get asked for selfies so we tend to go away for weekends as a family.

I do find it slightly annoying but I guess it pays the bills 💃

I wonder if the OP resents her famous in Europe and locally husband stealing her limelight? It must be a great relief to her when they go somewhere which is neither local nor European and she can spread her shining wings in the spotlight and be valued as her own amazing person.

My DH once got sponsored for a sponsored swim when he was about 8- is that the sort of thing you mean?

I don’t really understand this thread. Surely you’re aware that most posters won’t have a famous or semi-famous or sponsored DH so I don’t know that you’ll find many posters able to share similar stories. Seems like maybe just an attempt to show-off?

🤣 I went on a Sponsored walk once around Richmond park - But where we lived there were lots of genuinely 'famous' people - if one saw them in Waitrose, or in Town or on a walk, you'd just think ''Oh there's so and so'' {Musicians, actors mainly } and wouldn't dream of bothering them- they are just people.

Enjoy it while it lasts. I have a friend who is married to a bloke who was a regular in a show which was on telly through the 90s and early 00s. He’s a total has-been now, hasn’t worked in over 10 years other than a couple of episodes of Casualty, barely anyone recognizes him anymore and she’s been having to support him ever since.

A long time ago i almost got wed to a guy 8 years my senior who was in a popular police drama. He dropped out after several years he didnt like being asked to work evening schedules too often. He regretted leaving.
Apart from his modest house and car he only does semi regular work he is lazy and went back to uni as a much maturer student rather than graft.
Last time i saw him jeez he has put some timber on. He was handsome back in the day.
I probably have more money than him now.

My FIL used to be a local councillor so was often stopped by people to complain about bins/parking/grass verges. 😂

😂👍Good one! I actually laughed out loud.

My friend's Whippet had an Infamous Grandfather.

Other dogs stop her on walks and say ''Your Grandad!- may I have an Autograph?!'

I was propositioned many years ago by the then Chief Cashier of the Bank of England (the person whose signature appears on bank notes).

Doteycat · 30/03/2024 01:37

I was an extra in Remington Steele when i was a teenager.
Whats that Tikok? Born to be his wife, forced to be a fan..

People should stop being nasty. If u don’t like the thread don’t read it. Op is entitled to talk about what she wants, and everyone has a choice if they post or not. Why are people so bitter

We all moved on a bit and are enjoying one another's spurious claims to fame.

SoDoneIn · 30/03/2024 01:18

My partner was frontman of a band when I met and was promptly knocked up by him and they were quite big within their genre.

He now works in emergency critical care in an hospital and gets recognised more for that than when he was touring with big name bands. It was annoying the number of young and old women who’d push me out the way to get to him and grope him at gigs but worse now when it’s old women and addicts pushing me out the way to hug and kiss him for his kindness. Some guy did this in a chemist recently that was erm fun.

My siblings have all dabbled with fame through music or acting. It all went to their heads. They’re not doing that anymore.

I’ve probably done more “famous” things than all of them in my younger days working in media industries. I was also sponsored for a very cool sport too . But my big game moment was being recognised once in Morrisons when I was late teens by an old lady who wanted to tell me I looked much better now I was out of that awful hospital (I was a patient extra in a drama to earn pennies at uni 😂😂😂)

fame is bullshit. In the end the famous person is just doing a job and the hangers on are just looking for a piece of that action.

RobertaFirmino · 30/03/2024 01:16

My DH is famous. He's been in the 'Courtfile' section of the local newspaper three times now!

She deleted ger other post. It detailed how her husband had offered to DJ a school disco for 200 quid, but another parent was organizing a cinema/restaurant outing which OP was concerned would pull guests away from the disco and somehow cost her DH money (not sure how, 200 is 200 even if he's playing to an empty room, surely.) OP want to know of she was BU to call that other parent a cunt.

Yes and normally he is paid 4 thousand a night. Hardly a superstar dj lol

oberst · 29/03/2024 21:25

Oh this is exciting! Can you say how?

I would think this has to be sport..football or possibly acting.

It must be very hard to juggle keeping your kid’s feet on the ground when the while
world is blowing up around them. First world problems but as a parent you have my sympathy.

I can't find any other threads by OP.
Searching their username brings up no results.
Does anyone know why?

My husband isn't famous but he now believes he is because 5 different people asked him to get their luggage down from our plane earlier. Does that count?!

KomodoOhno · 30/03/2024 00:37

Spirallingdownwards · 29/03/2024 23:00

10p a km for his couch to 5k

Agreed this is what the OP was hoping for 😆

elliejjtiny · 30/03/2024 00:35

@FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren I think semi famous would be someone who was once in an article in take a break or plays in a football team that only local people have heard of, but they once played Nottingham forest in a friendly match.

IHateLegDay · 30/03/2024 00:31

Not famous but DH is a well known dentist in the local area and we've had people come up to us in supermarkets, on our date nights, in bars etc asking him for advice! Once the postman knocked to ask about a sore tooth 😂
The worst was when we were on holiday and two different (unknown to each other) patients were there as well and kept coming up for a chat!
DH is lovely to patients when in work but he's actually not a social person at all so hates when people come up to him 😂🙈

My DH is not famous, but does have the same name as a rather vile mass murderer from the early 20th century (not Jack the Ripper). I suggested we change our surname. The name is actually very common, but it would be like making a bit of a statement, wouldn't it?

Although obviously very famous in his own right, Rupert the Bear has had endless problems with people mistaking him for Jack the Ripper, owing to their shared name.

TeenLifeMum · 30/03/2024 00:24

The mad alcoholic lady in the village we moved to when dh and I got married decided dh was a famous movie star (never established which one) and told everyone in the post office and local pub. He’s not. He was in the village amateur production so maybe she saw him in that? 😂 It caused quite a stir in the little village where nothing happens. Dh is followed by Huey from fun loving criminals on Twitter which he’s very proud of - he met him once through work.

My DP is infamous on at least 3 continents.. much more fun than boring old famous..

Tell us more!

JL690 · 30/03/2024 00:22

My ex was a famous husband while we were married. Now he's just famous. He loved the fame, I didn't so I was the one in the dark glasses and baseball cap when we went out. I used to wear different glasses and caps every time and he got a reputation for always having a different glamour-puss on his arm every time. And he still pays my bills even though we're divorced, so I can't really complain.
