To think that all UK countries should have the same number of public holidays?

Currently, Northern Ireland has ten public holidays, Scotland has nine, whilst England and Wales lag behind on eight. How is this not discrimination? Surely if we are one nation we should enjoy the same number of statutory holidays? These might be at different times, reflecting the culture of the nation, but should add up to the same number. Shouldn't they?

Well I live in Scotland and get English bank holidays which sucks. Especially on the 2nd January.

We are 4 nations in a united kingdom with many differences.

We also have different legal systems and laws, different education, different religions.

Public holidays are just another difference.

Who is lacking what holidays? Do you want St . Andrews day off ? ah maybe you'd like two at Hogmanay ? Actually we Scotland don't have good Friday off 😧. Maybe we can have that as well .

From a light-hearted point of view, which I assume this post is. I am all for England getting an extra bank holiday.

I cannot believe you are actually being serious.

ShergarHorse · 18/03/2024 23:38

You think northern Ireland lords it over England? Are you for real?

Kinneddar · 18/03/2024 23:36

You might want to look at what discrimination actually is 🙄

Needmoresleep · 18/03/2024 23:34

Can we have St Patrick’s Day?

Overthebow · 18/03/2024 23:34

On what grounds would it be discrimination?

England are not discriminated against in the UK 🤣

There's so much wrong with that sentiment I don't even know where to begin.

Glitterybee · 18/03/2024 23:27

The United Kingdom might be one nation but it’s made up of separate countries which each have their own legislative powers, so I think YABU

Also after 800 years of atrocities, invasions, genocides and erasure of Irish culture by Britain for the love of god let us have our extra days!!!!
