So I am working away in London for a few nights (never had to before so don't really understand the rules)

DH said as neither of us have been to London, he could join me (obviously pay for his own transport) but surely he wont be able to stay in my hotel room?

@araiwa - how would you know what OP’s company policy is?

NoSquirrels · 18/03/2024 08:03

It depends.

Are you expected to take part in stuff evenings etc and are there more people than just you going, or is it literally just normal working hours from a London base for a couple of days?

In scenario one having your DH tagging along could be unprofessional.

No he definitely can't go.

Against company policy

Gross misconduct

Really?

I am travelling down early on the Monday and will have the whole afternoon really. I dont really want to go to central London on my own so would be nice if DH came.

It would be fine where I work. We have a conference in the US most years and lots of people bring their partners along. They occupy themselves during the day then we all meet up in the evening.

Wolfpa · 18/03/2024 08:01

Talk to your manager each company is different. When myself or partner travels with work (different companies) we are allowed to stay in hotel rooms as long as we pay any difference.

BranchGold · 18/03/2024 08:01

If you want him to come then you can just ask your work if the rooms been booked under single occupancy or if you can have your partner stay.

Manif3st101 · 18/03/2024 08:01

Why not? Lots of people take partners on a work trip, as long as he pays for his own meals etc and doesn’t distract you fr9m your work it should be fine.

If you’re worried ask your work if it’s ok.

It is a premier inn

Thats what DH said, I just feel a bit cheeky and wasnt sure it was allowed.

You’d have to find out your works policy. What kind of hotel are you staying in? DH’s work puts him in premier inns (at his request) and they don’t mind partners staying as it doesn’t add any cost.

CRbear · 18/03/2024 08:00

my husband and I do this! He might have to pay for breakfast if it’s single occupancy but otherwise it’s your room…
