AIBU - Weeing in lay-bys is anti social and fines should apply

Item in the news- Dacorum Borough Council have stopped issuing fines for wild wees in lay-bys.
I know that this is on a technicality (anti littering law used and wild wees not classed as litter) but I think people weeing in lay-bys is appalling. It should be subject to fines. I can forgive toddlers/ young children but not adults. There are solutions for those with medical conditions that mean urgent wees are a symptom. And it’s always men. Women need urgent wees too (possibly more so, pregnancy etc) and we don’t pull up in lay-bys and squat in front of passing traffic. AIBU?

On the contrary @IFHTTBIC I live in a rural location and I’m definitely not averse to a bucolic wild wee tucked away from sight and not adding my urine to a collection which will inevitably make a public area unpleasant. Maybe you missed the point of my post which was specifically about public urination in lay-bys. Quite a difference. @WillJeSuis why does weeing into a shewee need to be done in motion? If it’s possible to stop to pee in full view on a lay-by then surely you can stop to use a portable urinal?
so many people here seem so affronted by the idea that they should be challenged for pissing in an area that’s neither suitable nor appropriate to be used as a toilet. Portable urinals are affordable and easy to purchase. If you are someone who might need the toilet urgently why would you not prepare for that by getting one? And of course take it home to empty.
I stand by my initial position- it’s always men I see doing it and I agree with those that say it’s another example of male entitlement. Bet the people who decided to scrap the fines are men too! (Last bit added for provocation).

It doesn't have to be done in motion but you do need to be standing up, which you obviously can't do in a car.

To be fair, I'm not disagreeing with you about the whole roadside weeing issue. Just the portable urinal in the car - for women anyway, I don't think it's really a solution.

JPGR · 17/03/2024 12:05

Do you think dogs shouldn’t wee either? Maybe they also should carry a contraption.

MissingMoominMamma · 17/03/2024 12:03

I’ve weed in laybys. If my (weak) bladder starts to hurt, I’m going to be very distracted at the wheel.

soupfiend · 17/03/2024 11:49

My OH bought one of these for me for when we're out walking in the countryside.

Utterly useless, wee everywhere all over my shoes and trousers.

I'd love to know how people use these successfully

Totally. They are supposed to make it easier and more discreet but I find you have to pull your trousers down a fair bit so you are still standing there with your arse hanging out. And unless you've angled it correctly the wee will just back flow all over your hands and clothes. I'd rather squat thanks.

@soupfiend

i can't work it out either!

Especially now I'm older, I might have managed when much younger. I don't know why wee starts preferring to go in every direction as you age, but it seems common. I haven't even birthed children or anything?!

Anywat, try not to let this thread upset you. You do what you need to, when you need to 🌷

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 17/03/2024 11:57

@Cornettoninja we live close to a motorway so there are several lay-bys on the run up to it. Our road is being treated as a lay-by as the others are so busy. The next one along has a bloody portaloo and lots of bins as there's a cafe in a portacabin there but people still piss on the roadside and don't use the bins for their rubbish. People are just disgusting.

The council don't respond to any complaints.

LlynTegid · 17/03/2024 11:56

@TheGhostOfKatesProlapse some people seem to completely lack an ability to plan ahead, I agree.

The person who commented about public toilets being closed or not provided because of the way some are treated is spot on. Also contributing is local authorities being short of money, and for some male toilets, those who use them to meet other men for sexual purposes.

Can't believe no one's made a joke about a sense of Dacorum

🤣🤣

well done, I was too busy thinking 'where the fuck is that?'

We'd have more public toilets if people didn't behave like animals.
We all have to suffer because of the people that trash and graffiti public loos with what you pray is only paint but are often dismayed to discover is warmer and thicker than any paint you'll find in b&q.

If the public weren't filthy pigs we'd have public facilities.

Not that the lack of them means it's ok to piss in public of course. I shouldn't even need to clarify that.

Edited

Very true, this is why they got rid of the ones in my town centre. No toilets anywhere now except pubs
Why are there people who behave like chimps. Such a small minority but ruin it

soupfiend · 17/03/2024 11:49

WillJeSuis · 17/03/2024 11:46

If you are able to use a shewee in a moving car while sitting down I'd really like to know how.

My OH bought one of these for me for when we're out walking in the countryside.

IFHTTBIC · 17/03/2024 11:46

Quite right to be so affronted.

What we need is for every layby in rural Scotland/Wales/Ireland/Devon/Northumberland/Norfolk/Cornwall/Shropshire to have a toilet installed. Preferably with Baylis and Harding toiletries. Just think of the number of people you could employ as a bonus.

I'm guessing you don't do much travel in rural locations....

On a serious note we are shockingly badly set up in this country for public anything, including loos.

WillJeSuis · 17/03/2024 11:46

Thriftnugget · 17/03/2024 08:49

@Ofcourseshecan Well I’ve had 3 kids, interstitial cystitis (and an enormous ovarian cyst) so you could say I have had a share of desperate for a wee experiences …. But I’ve never had a wee in a lay-by. Also … she-wees/ and whatever they are called for men (large necked bottle!) for those who need them. …?

If you are able to use a shewee in a moving car while sitting down I'd really like to know how.

soupfiend · 17/03/2024 11:42

Callie222 · 17/03/2024 11:34

@soupfiend yes and yes although I spend a lot of time in trackies which are easier!

@TheYearOfSmallThings me too really but not possible in built up areas or car parks when you're desperate.

I thought you might have been taking the piss, no pun.

If you're serious, what do you mean by portable loo in the back seat, what is this thing?

tryingtohelp82 · 17/03/2024 11:42

VladsPants · 17/03/2024 08:49

I cant get upset by folk have a wee in a lay-by.

This.. all that matters is that they've pulled over safely. The wee will disappear into the ground and the same spot probably doesn't get peed on twice

soupfiend · 17/03/2024 11:40

tacosforbreakfast · 17/03/2024 11:27

A layby isn't only on a motorway? In fact, I don't think there are laybys on the motorway? Apart from the police only laybys?

No laybys on motorways, not quite sure what people think they are seeing, perhaps the pull sections for emergencies or where the emergency phones are. Laybys are on A roads or other roads, we have them on country roads round here and an A road which is the only road we can use for 30 miles until we reach the motorway.

EmilyPlay · 17/03/2024 11:40

I can't get worked up about this especially when it rains so much and washes it away.

Shania7788 · 17/03/2024 11:40

Laughing a bit at the thought that the side of the road is considered “wild”. I love a nature wee if I’m honest but wouldn’t want to do it in view of other people. Agree that dogs pee all over the pavement/people’s fences etc. and we just accept it but have a problem with humans peeing. As long as genitals are not on full show I couldn’t get upset about people being caught short somewhere that isn’t a public footpath. Would much prefer that to the plastic bottles of orange liquid along the verges!

napody · 17/03/2024 11:39

rocksavage · 17/03/2024 08:55

I'm far, far more bothered about people leaving litter everywhere than seeing someone urinating. I'd rather they weed al fresco than pissed in a bottle and chucked it out of the window. Really can't get too wound up about seeing people pissing miles from a public loo.

This. Been seeing increasing numbers of bottles o'piss alongside motorways. See also bagging up dog poo and leaving it.

Callie222 · 17/03/2024 11:35

My car has darkened rear windows which helps!

Callie222 · 17/03/2024 11:34

Waffleson · 17/03/2024 08:59

I can't get wound up about someone having a discrete discreet wee. What I do find strange is that noone minds dogs pissing all over the place but when humans do it it's suddenly terrible.

OMG this!

Beargrumps22 · 17/03/2024 11:31

most toilets are shut and those that are not are usually disgusting; had to go in one in town the other day and there was pooh all over the seat and toilet.
my partner has bladder issues due to diabetes and I have irritable bladder so if we have to go we have to go.
