I am surprised this isn't on here actually. It's been on the news for 2 days, and has just been discussed on Loose Women.

From the article...

A couple are waging war over a £1 million lotto scratchcard they ‘purchased together’ weeks before breaking up.

Michael Cartlidge, 39, and former partner Charlotte Cox, 37, purchased the
Lottery card together at a shop in Spalding, Lincs. But when Charlotte walked out on Michael a few weeks later, she was deemed to be the sole winner of the jackpot by lottery chiefs.

Michael admits that Charlotte both paid for and scratched the ticket. But he also claims that he was the one who suggested she buy the ticket and attempted to transfer her cash to cover the purchase while they were in the shop.
He says the mum-of-one initially agreed to split the cash, but later welched on the deal after breaking up with him a few weeks later and claimed she was the sole winner of the jackpot.

He said ‘£1million has never brought such misery.’

So, was the woman (Charlotte) wrong to have kept all the money to herself? They were not married, they didn't own any property together or have joint finances, and they'd only been together 3 months. Lottery chiefs said she is the sole owner of the money and does not have to share it.

YABU - she was WRONG to keep the money and should have split it with him. They were 'a couple.' He didn't pay for the ticket, but they got it at the same time.

YANBU - she was RIGHT to keep it - as she paid for the ticket herself, and didn't need to share it. They'd only been together 3 months, they weren't married, and they didn't have a house together or joint finances.

Did you make this up? I can't see any info about this.

There are newspaper articles about it

He's also about to go on trial for severely beating his ex partner a few months before this. So in that sense I hope he doesn't get a penny

'He said ‘£1million has never brought such misery.’'

Not for Charlotte, she won a million quid and got rid of violent cocklodger in one fell swoop. I bet she is fucking ecstatic.

mitogoshi · 21/02/2024 17:46

3 months? No shared finances or children i presume? Are they living together (as in both legally on tenancy)?

If they are legally together as in shared tenancy then my opinion is different to them just dating ...

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/02/2024 17:43

Ha ha - nice try mate!

I sincerely doubt that his version of events is true. Also - three months is very far from a partner - it’s barely a boyfriend.

No way should this be shared.

“Suggested she buy the ticket” 😂

Station11 · 21/02/2024 17:41

It's a boyfriend. Kids shouldn't get into the frame of mind as to appropriate responsibility onto people who don't want/need/have/or deserve it.

Belovedbagle · 21/02/2024 17:38

3 months is hardly a partner!

DeeCeeCherry · 21/02/2024 17:37

Together a mere 3 months + he's on trial soon for beating up his ex? I bet he didn't treat her well so she chucked him. Talk about Karma with a big K. He must be feeling sick, he'll remember this for the rest of his life. I pity any woman who gets with him after all this, she'll be the outlet for his anger and anguish. Serves him right. Sometimes things do turn out how they're supposed to in life

SweetBirdsong · 21/02/2024 14:13

And who the F transfers £2.00 to someone's bank LOL!

Me and my partner often transfer each other paltry sums because we're broke as fuck LOL!

Verv · 21/02/2024 17:18

He's a chancer. It's her win and her money.

Cabinfeversetsin · 21/02/2024 17:17

I’d give him £50 in £1 coins and say off you pop! Cheeky chancer

Thementalloadisreal · 21/02/2024 17:15

He suggested it, he didn’t buy it. If a random in the queue or a shop assistant suggested it they wouldn’t be entitled either. The lottery officials agree it’s hers. How is this even a discussion? Good for her, more money less shit boyfriend.

TheThreeCheesesOfTheApocalypse44 · 21/02/2024 17:14

She shouldn't share and she was a fool for telling a bloke she barely knew.....he seems the type to hound her for life 😬

Minfilia · 21/02/2024 17:13

Im just curious as to whether it would be the same situation if someone bought a lottery ticket alone, but it was funded from a joint account?! Who has a claim then? Just the winner who bought it, or both people on the joint account?

Wintersgirl · 21/02/2024 17:09

dottiedodah · 21/02/2024 13:24

Its her cash fair and square surely? No need to "share" he is just sore as she has the money . 3 months is a casual RL not a "partner" in any sense!

Yeah thank god she didn't marry him!

BIossomtoes · 21/02/2024 16:58

He’s a cheeky fucker, isn’t he?

MILTOBE · 21/02/2024 16:55

I would love to know more about this - I wish she would come on and do an AMA while he's in prison!

crowgift · 21/02/2024 16:55

Of course it's hers, she bought the ticket, it's her money.
I'm surprised he had the front to even go to the press about this. What a catch.

Beezknees · 21/02/2024 16:53

Good for her.

VimtoEverywhere · 21/02/2024 16:50

I hope she really enjoys not giving him a penny

Lanawashington · 21/02/2024 13:21

Oh god, now there's a twist.

MILTOBE · 21/02/2024 16:49

Lovingitallnow · 21/02/2024 13:19

Attempted to transfer the money in the shop.... before or after she scratched it. No way should she share. She should never have entertained the notion of sharing. MAD

No way did he suggest transferring the money before she bought it - it costs such a small amount, why would he? Huge repercussions, though!

CormorantStrikesBack · 21/02/2024 16:31

SweetBirdsong · 21/02/2024 14:13

And who the F transfers £2.00 to someone's bank LOL!

Good point, normally you'd give them £2. He wanted a trail so was obviously planning on trying to stake his claim even 40 mins after!

Universalsnail · 21/02/2024 16:31

At 3 months together I would do what she did. No way would I share that money.

CormorantStrikesBack · 21/02/2024 16:30

I don't think it matters if he paid her or not. She can't prevent someone transferring her money and it was after she knew she'd won I guess?

So if my neighbour tells me they've won big could I just transfer some money if I know her bank account details and then claim the ticket is half mine? No, I can't.

She was never his partner. They had been dating for 3 months.
