Just wondering what your true JUDGY thoughts are? I don't wear makeup often I'm in my mid forties. How am I perceived? Lazy? Frumpy? Not caring? Boring? Can't be bothered to make an effort for others ? Or self confident enough not to ' need' it, regardless of how attractive you view yourself ?

Don’t wear makeup and never have even on my wedding day. I use a moisturiser with spf and a lip balm - all that’s needed.
Do I notice those wearing makeup - sometimes when it’s obvious and badly put on.

notacooldad · 08/06/2025 11:46

I can't recall feeling anything about people not wearing makeup.
I have thought that someone may have gone too heavy with blush, for example or that i wish I could get my eye make up as nice as someone's but it doesn't occur to me to have a thought that they don't have make up on.

Krest · 08/06/2025 11:42

Oh God I didn’t really anyone would ever judge me for something that would only ever affect me. I never wear make up. Only on a rare occasion if I’m out in the evening. Never during the day. Not because it don’t need to, but quite simply I cba.

RosesAndHellebores · 08/06/2025 10:35

I don't feel or think anything about women who do or don't wear make-up. My life is full of other priorities.

I wear make-up almost every day because I like it. Not much and it's a 3/5 minute job and makes me feel good. That's all that matters.

BIossomtoes · 08/06/2025 10:25

Well fair enough but if you put on “a front” that’s what people see.

More front than Brighton is a metaphorical colloquialism for having confidence, which I can assure you I have way too much of.

I can’t believe the absolute nastiness and sense of superiority from women who don’t wear make up on this thread. Who the fuck do you think you are?

Zanatdy · 08/06/2025 08:26

I wear make up every day now but didn’t for years. As i’m approaching 50, I definitely need a big of foundation so usually do some eye make up too, but only wear lipstick at parties.

whiteluckycat · 08/06/2025 08:24

I wore make-up daily in my 20s and for most of my 30s, even when I had young babies and toddlers and wasn’t going anywhere!

I stopped wearing it (other than for special occasions) 5 or so years ago. I have blonde lashes and don’t even bother with mascara.

I think it’s because I now feel more confident in myself and can’t see the point in wearing it daily. I have other priorities.

So I never judge others without make up. Or with, unless it’s piled on along with fillers and massive fake eyelashes etc.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 08/06/2025 08:21

I love a natural face. My husband does too. I always wear a bit of mascara and blusher but that’s it. Weekends nothing unless I’m going somewhere nice. When I see a make up free face I think that woman is confident in her skin and/or has more important matters at hand.

I feel sorry for those who wear makeup everyday and feel like they don’t have enough confidence to go without

I suggest you take your pity and stick it where the sun don’t shine. I’ve got more front than Brighton, with or without make up. I just prefer my face with it. How dare you judge and condescend to other women about whom you know nothing?

Well fair enough but if you put on “a front” that’s what people see.

As I says make up isn’t on my radar so I don’t think anything either way.

However watching Married at First Sight(Australia) you see the participants with (lots of) and without. One in particular had very pale skin and acne. Objectively she should have looked worse bare faced but actually she had more expression and came across better without. As did all
of them. It’s only when you contrast both you see what else make up hides.

PoppingZits · 08/06/2025 07:17

I don’t wear make up and couldn’t care less what other people think. Same about others who choose to wear it or not. Who cares?!

SunnyOchreNewt · 08/06/2025 02:28

I have only thought about this one time in my life. I was shopping in Sainsbury's on a Sunday morning and I saw my boss without makeup! She's normally plastered. I thought how much younger and better she looked without it.

In your opinion. As someone who wears makeup at times, but doesn't most days, your "natural is best" dogma sounds judgemental and insular.

I will stick to what I said. For me special occasion was my wedding and I didn’t feel like myself wearing full makeup. I have attended other people’s weddings bare faced or with just lipstick to go with the dress. My lipstick never stays for long and I don’t touch up.

WeCouldDoBetter · 07/06/2025 23:51

I don't have much of an opinion of women who don't wear make up. I do sometimes but more often than not, I don't.

However, I find women who wear tons of make-up, especially the flawless, airbrushed look, a bit difficult to read, as if they're wearing a uniform or mask and not showing who they truly are.

StrawberryWater · 07/06/2025 23:28

I couldn't care less whether other people wear make up. It doesn't even factor into my way of thinking.

I personally don't wear make up. I'm allergic to pretty much every thing (even the so called hypoallergenic stuff) so it's not even a choice.

Praying4Peace · 07/06/2025 23:25

Octavia64 · 20/02/2024 08:24

I don't wear make up.

I have tried, mostly when I am ill and I know my face reflects that.

I hate the way it feels on my skin. I hate the way it makes my eyes itchy.

And fundamentally I don't have to look at me so I don't care what I look like.

I wfh. I know there are minimum socially acceptable standards for both men and women for clothing and I do stick to them when I am out ( so I do dress up when needed) but frankly I live in jeans/joggers/shorts and T shirt and I'm very happy like that. I work for myself so my boss is also happy.

I don't worry too much about people judgjj in by me because I use a wheelchair and for most people that is the first and only thing they see. They wouldn't notice if I was an alien as they only see the wheelchair.

Gosh!
I really hope that there are people who see you before the wheelchair
I'm hoping that society's attitude and prejudices are in the change process

Oh @Hiddenvoice what an incredibly cruel thing to say. I hope your H told her she was wrong.

He was amazing, said he wasn’t even going to respond to such a horrible comment and told them the night was over and showed them the door. Hasn’t spoken to them since.

People can be cruel for absolutely no reason!

Summerthing · 07/06/2025 20:56

@BIossomtoes love 'more front than Brighton' - never heard that before!

I'm not a very confident person and I used to hide behind make-up when I was younger. I often go out without make-up now though and I find people respond to me in a more friendly way when I'm make-up free.

I love to see a fresh-faced beauty such as Yvonne Strahovski in The Handmaid's Tale.

MarvellousMonsters · 07/06/2025 20:42

Hiddenvoice · 20/02/2024 07:58

I feel jealous if I’m honest and I know it sounds stupid. I’m so insecure in my own skin that I put make up on as my mask. I see women who go about naturally and I wish I had their confidence and their lovely skin.

I don’t wear heavy make up, I try my hardest to make it look natural and not cakey. I’ve gone to work a few times without and had comments from colleagues that I look tired, that I must be unwell or I’m having a bad day.
I’ve also had a ‘friend’ comment to my dh and her dh that I’m not one of those women who can go without and need make up to look more appealing.

Oh @Hiddenvoice what an incredibly cruel thing to say. I hope your H told her she was wrong.

Middlemarch123 · 07/06/2025 19:33

I couldn’t care less who does or doesn’t wear makeup. It doesn’t reflect their character or my impression of them.

I’m early sixties and always wear makeup, whether I’m at home or out. It’s subtle, takes five minutes, makes me feel good. Each to their own is my motto.

TryForSpring · 07/06/2025 19:24

biwinoone · 07/06/2025 17:24

I don’t use to wear make up in my day to day life and only wear it on special occasions. I only have recently started to wear lipstick when going out. This comes from the confidence of having a really good skin and naturally rosy cheeks until I was in my late 30s. I have stood next to people who wore makeup and have commented that they have to wear makeup to look like me. So I never got into the habit of wearing it. Now I do sometimes have adult acne which leaves marks but I am confident enough to go without wearing foundation or anything to cover it. It just doesn’t feel natural. On the other hand, I feel sorry for those who wear makeup everyday and feel like they don’t have enough confidence to go without. It’s much better to invest in skincare than makeup. Natural is always best

I don't generally notice if people wear make up or not. The only time I notice and maybe judge, is if somebody professional eg judge, surgeon, barrister looks like they've had botox, wear lots of make-up, painted nails etc, then I question their professionalism. I know that's probably unfair. But I really think that their minds should be on higher things - not faffing about with botox and nails. I was horrified when my anaesthetist came to see me before she got her surgery stuff on and she had a full face of make up on with high heels. Obviously she was going to get changed but it just made me trust her less. And the opposite is true. If I see a doctor / lawyer and they have no make up on, I think they must me good at their job. I know this is not rational.

Oriunda · 07/06/2025 17:15

I’m amazed at all this judgement!

I usually wear no makeup. I have good skin. Plus, I’m lazy. I also can’t wear any eye makeup due to having incredibly sensitive eyes; they start weeping.

At most, I’ll wear a bit of Nuxe l’huile prodigeuse (the pink one gives a great glow; the gold is all the summer makeup you need), and/or a bit of blusher.

If I’m feeling particularly shit and need to distract, a red lip.

Luckily, I’m not bothered what other women think of me.

Gettingbysomehow · 07/06/2025 17:11

I barely notice or care. I wear natural look makeup but most of my friends and colleagues don't wear any. I went to a friend's wedding recently and she didn't wear any that day either. She just isn't a makeup person. Neither is her husband.
Personally I do dislike heavy make up looks with thick foundation and big heavy lashes. It looks weird and spoils natural beauty.
