Yes it’s not much in the scheme of things but I’m becoming increasingly annoyed by men in public (I’m sure women do these things too but 90% of the time it’s men in my experience).

Only today I was paying at the self service in Tesco, had the baby (in pram) and 4 year old with me. 6 checkouts, every other checkout was free. The second I tapped my card this man barged between me and the checkout I had used and started scanning his shopping, leaving me flustered as I gathered up my shopping and tried to pack it away while moving the pram and my other child away. The way it happened he’d clearly been waiting to do it, although why I have no idea.

Second occasion we were stood in another shop, a very big tall man comes round the corner of the aisle and rather than wait the split second for me to pull DD towards me so he could pass (was already doing this) he barged past her and almost knocked her over shouting ‘SORRY, SORRY’.

Gah. Yes it all sounds a bit petty written out but I’ve got PMT and have had a few of these incidences lately and am fed up.

I live in a village with bottle neck at one end due to residents parking on one side of the main road. A colleague had been driving into the village (their right of way) and had almost cleared the parked cars when a man in a big car (possibly Range Rover) pulled out blocking her way. He was gesticulating for her to reverse but she just shook her head. He became enraged at this, got out of his car and screamed and shouted at her to reverse as he was ‘a busy man and didn’t have time to waste.’ She got out of her car, grabbed a book, sat on her bonnet and told him it was a shame as she didn’t have anywhere to be! After effing and jeffing he eventually reversed. When she told me this I was a bit 🤔 until I saw someone’s doorbell footage on Faceache!

I find this when walking down the street and men just march on forward and expect others to get out of their way. I just don't move now unless they have mobility issues or something like a white cane obviously
When using self checkouts, usually they don't let the next person start scanning until the bagging area is clear, so in future just don't move your stuff straight away.

I once had a standoff with a young guy in the street who clearly expected me as a tiny brown woman to get out of his way.I stared him out till he gave up and walked round me. I can't abide when men assume that they own every bloody space. Don't get me started on bus and train seats!

judgementfail · 19/02/2024 22:55

I was recently crossing a totally clear quiet residential road (10mph limit) when a man in his emotional support Ute suddenly turned in from the main road at huge speed. He screeched to halt and I continued crossing bearing in mind I had nowhere else to go. As he passed he shouted. "You could have said thank you you stupid bitch".

Thanks for not mowing me down? Knob.

Maybe you were below his field of vision? I'm 6'1” and sometimes find myself bumping into short people (e.g. 5 foot).

The idea that you think this is an excuse for barging into people is insane! You either need an eye test, or an attitude change, or both.

I'm tall, and my DH is over 6 foot. We somehow manage to both see short people (including small children and toddlers!) and manoeuvre around them so as not to bash into them.

I’m 5ft tall and manage not to bump into people just because they are shorter than me. Just as well since I work with children. I just make sure I look all around me as I move. Good to confirm my thinking others don’t though, which is why I always tell children in my care to be aware as others might not bother to be.

I was talking about this very subject to my friend today. She's a prison officer, 5'11" and menopausal, so let's just say that she's not easily intimidated.

She was driving down a country road this afternoon, no other cars around except an SUV in front of her towing a small horse box. The horse box doors had opened and were flapping, and the stuff inside - feed bucket, riding hat, jackets and boots - were rolling around from side to side. (Thankfully no horse inside!)

To get the driver's attention, she flashed her lights once and gestured towards the doors. Next thing she knew, he'd braked hard, blocking the road, and ran at her car, shouting that she was a stupid fat cunt and what was she in such a fucking hurry for anyway.

She took great delight in sitting there impassively until he'd stopped, and then pointed out that she was trying to tell him about the doors. He got all flustered but instead of apologising, he just looked at her and then said "Yeah. Well." and stomped back to his car. Then had to stomp back out again to shut the horse box doors 🙄.

She was almost laughing about it when she was telling me, but she said that she was shocked at how aggressive he was, instantly, from nowhere. Really unnecessary.

It's the instant flash of rage that's so strange to me. Constant, simmering anger that needs the lightest trigger and they'll lose their shit. And we're the emotional ones.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 19/02/2024 22:45

Why all the bigotry?

I parked in a 'drive forward' supermarket car park space, far away from the entrance, not near anything at all, not even the clothing bins.
Of course, when I got back with a trolley full of stuff, a man had parked right up behind me so that I couldn't get in to open the boot!
Not sure what was wrong with the fifty or so spaces all around that were completely empty.

My FIL does this. He claims that he needs a car next to him to be able to park straight. I told him that I thought it was incredibly selfish, as he knows I have to park further away in order to have the best chance of getting in and out of the car. I need the door wide open due to my disability, but don't qualify for a blue badge as I can walk. He told me that if my car was the only one in the car park, he'd park next to it. Apparently his needs trump everyone else's.

Walking down the street today with my 3year old and baby in pram. 5 men walking side by side towards me. Not one of them moved to let me by

That’s quite intimidating. Awful.

Travelling through London on the underground last week with DD(11) and DS(14). Train pulls up just as we get on the platform, we get on, DD is in front of me and DS half a step behind to my left. I turn around to my son and where I expect to see him is instead a massive bloke. I realise as the doors slide shut that my son is still on the platform and blocked from getting on the train because this guy has just cut in front of him then stopped dead in the doorway (there was loads of space for him to move forwards). The guy just looked at me and said “Oh, is that your kid? Damn” while shaking his head, chuckling and smiling at me in a really smug way.

Luckily DS is pretty savvy and just waited where he was for us to get back to him and we can all laugh about it now, but still, why would that guy do that!

What can absolute bastard

Happens fairly regularly to me too. Yesterday took the kids to an attraction, we're standing in the queue for our time slot and some random man tries to barge past me to get to the ticket person faster. WHY do they do this sort of shit? Also the gym I've only ever had men come up to me to comment in the middle of sets, or interrupt to 'ask' how long I'll be whilst lurking slightly too close to me. Obviously I take longer when this happens Grin

YES! I don't think I've ever had a woman hover over me at the gym to ask how long I'll be. Men do it nearly every time I go. Cunts.

I had one particularly memorable instance when I was walking down a wide path and a male runner was running towards me and starting yelling at me to move. I did not and he smacked straight into my chest. Unfortunately for him I'm built like a brick shithouse and he practically bounced off and had to step off the path while I carried on my way Grin

This is hilarious - the image has me laughing out loud 😂

Why can't people spell brake correctly?

Oh dear, did I talk about your husband?
I'll write it out 30 times.

makeupme · 19/02/2024 22:04

There seems to be something about single lane traffic when the cars are parked on their side they hate too. Amount of times I continue driving and they pull out in front of me, as soon as they see it is a woman, just to do some sort of face-off. I always stop and gesture for them to reverse, mouthing MY RIGHT OF WAY and pointing at the cars. They really really hate that Grin

Neighbour who decided that as a single parent I should be responsible for someone near his garden on the road behind keeping him up (our gardens were diagonal). He stormed over at 1am and rang my bell for 30mins, ranting about how if he couldn't sleep neither would I. I spoke through the doorbell, confirmed I would not be opening the door, had no idea about the noise and was calling the police. He clearly hadn't encountered a camera bell before and when the PCO went over to warn him about harassing behaviour seemed very shocked there was a 30min video of him being an aggressive knob in my porch. He was a Headmaster before he retired too!

The driving ones happen every time I get in my car. I always check my speed and it's not me going too slow or my error, they are just angry men being shits. I am finding myself increasingly tempted to break suddenly when they tailgate but always think how much of a faff the waiting for their insurance to pay out would be, if they have any!

I was swimming with my daughter at center parcs and there were a group of adults in their mid 20s. I assume I must have got in their way as one of the men picked me up by my waist and moved me to the side. I still can't believe it happened.

Sharontheodopolodous · 19/02/2024 21:59

In aldi, just after lockdown I'd gone to stand in the queue

Dp had wondered off to find his corned beef as he'd forgotten to pick it up

I joined the end of the queue and when the belt became free,I started to unload our shopping

An older bloke came out of nowhere, and started screaming and jabbing his finger at me

I'd pushed in apparently-I bloody hadn't,he wasn't in the queue when I joined it

His face when dp appeared and asked what the hell was happening

The bloke shuffled off-it was clear he thought I was on my own so fair game

Another time I was waiting on the self serve in tesco

I was the only one waiting, one became free so I moved forward

I'd just scanned my hair grips when another bloke came out of nowhere and shouted at me for taking 'his' till

Thankfully a female tesco staff member came forward to show him another free till but he started on her before dumping his basket and walking away

The amount of men that have a go at me at work for something beyond my control is staggering

I always shout for a male manager and watch them shrink and be polite to him but I'm fair game as I'm female

It pisses me off-it's like they cant control their hatred of women

ahoyhoyhoy · 19/02/2024 21:57

A man cut me off on a roundabout, I was in the left hand lane going left, he was in the right hand (third!) lane and sped up to overtake me, he was shouting out of his window until we both happened to stop at the same petrol station. He opened his door still shouting but walked off with his tail between his legs when I opened my door and said ‘I beg your fucking pardon? Never used a roundabout before?’

When I was a teen I did the man barging experiment and got a very bruised shoulder. It made me realise just how often I moved out of the way for men for absolutely no reason.

Notmollybutdolly · 19/02/2024 21:53

In the steam room last week - one guy LAY FACE DOWN whilst his mate sat on the Banch next to the door with his big hairy feet crossing the door space?!! Then proceeded to sit and talk about the food they’d eaten recently which had given them diareeah.

BronwenTheBrave · 19/02/2024 21:46

Men are such vile creatures.

Userxyd · 19/02/2024 21:39

Men just need to evolve! All these incels in their bedroom hating women and girls blaming them whilst they stay fat and pasty with no social skills.
Think how women's lives, values, responsibilities have changed in the last 100/50 years- it's mens turn now!
Humans are designed to progress, adapt, improve- too many men are just stuck in the past and holding us all back.
Men need to man up!!
