I don't think it's unreasonable for people to reflect on the inequality aspect of this, tbh. Charles won't be on a dangerously long waiting list, he won't have to beg for drugs and basic care, he won't spend any nights in agony on a trolley in a crowded corridor. Of course people are going to comment on that.

I don't wish him or his family any harm, but I don't particularly care what happens to him either. He isn't a force for good in society and he has no personal relevance for me. I have relatives with cancer who may die early deaths because of poor care and lack of resources; the contrast is stark, and it's not wrong to say so.

A fair statement

It might feel strange to feel unsettled by this news, but oddly I feel the same but probably because someone we know died young from cancer and his always been around in my life. Plus I'm getting on a bit myself now , so it has a different feel than when you are younger.
I'm sure he'll make a full recovery and have the best care etc, but it's still a nasty thing to deal with and he is 74.

I know what you mean.
Can I ask how old you were when you started feeling that way?
I have suddenly reached that unsettling time in my life.

How embarrassing to be someone who would post this.

Mama1980 · 05/02/2024 18:30

Such a shock. I wish him well and hope he makes a quick recovery.
Fwiw my mum has recently been diagnosed with cancer she was seen within two weeks, diagnosed in three days and then started treatment immediately.

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 05/02/2024 18:30

I wish him well, he's my employer!

LetsgoLego · 05/02/2024 18:30

I said this on the deleted thread in chat but I wish him a speedy recovery and hope Harry makes moves to reconcile, cancer aside he's 75 and not getting any younger.

HelenaCh9 · 05/02/2024 18:30

Sarah’s skin cancer was found by accident when her breast cancer was being operated upon. I think they’ve both been fortunate in a sense. Earlier diagnoses.

When I saw the footage of Charles leaving hospital last week I thought he looked pretty healthy. Obviously I was wrong.

I am no royalist but I hope he trounces this. I do feel for him. It’s a frightening time for him.

BBC reporting that Harry will be visiting this week.

Yirk · 05/02/2024 18:29

Sad news, hope they have caught it early, wish him well,
Harry on the way to UK to see his dad apparently, hope they reconcile.

I wish him well. No 6 month wait to see a consultant for him though.

Not all nhs patients wait 6 months, my dh was seen within days after his positive result, scanned within 10 days and phone calls every few days from the nurses to see how he was faring.

FruitBat53 · 05/02/2024 18:26

Charles hasn't looked well for some time, nor Edward who is also taking a break from public duties. Add in Kate having serious surgery and William taking an extended break to care for her... it's not good for the RF right now.

Although apparently William has his first engagements booked for Wednesday.

BreakfastAtMimis · 05/02/2024 18:25

I wish him well and hope he recovers. But I can't help but think about the thousands of other people who will have been diagnosed with cancer today, who won't have the luxury of private medical treatment and no money worries.

Justgorgeous · 05/02/2024 18:24

@TheBayLady Why are you unsettled by it ?

ConstitutionHill · 05/02/2024 18:23

Willmafrockfit · 05/02/2024 18:04

william will have a lot on his plate!

Can’t be nice for him but it’s not the same as if it was a normal person juggling everything, with no money and servants etc.

hattie43 · 05/02/2024 18:22

Let's hope he has a swift recovery

MigGirl · 05/02/2024 18:21

TbH though most people who get a diagnosis of cancer at his age actually die of something else first, as it's normally less aggressive in older people.

As he'll get the best possible care, he's still likely to live some time yet.

couiza · 05/02/2024 18:21

Hearing that anyone has cancer is not good news. I wish him well as I would anyone in the same position.

What has surprised me is the openness of HM about it all, and I admire it. No offence meant but it is in marked contrast to the mystery of Kate's illness. I know she wanted privacy so that's her call.

I feel, rightly or wrongly that Charles' illness is certainly taking the focus off Kate for now. It is a perfect storm for them all.

effoffwind · 05/02/2024 18:20

Some horrible people on here these days

I'm no fan of any of the Royal family but wish him well

It's really not difficult to have empathy for a husband , father and grandfather

Jessforless · 05/02/2024 18:05

Interesting that they said it was a benign issue when they announced his planned surgery.

I think this hints at a very early diagnosis, hopefully.

I read an article actually that said some prostate cancer is caught so early it’s almost too early to treat, so you stay in a wait and watch pattern. Though obviously I don’t suppose that would be the case for the King.

Sounds like they luckily discovered it by accident during the surgery. Very lucky!

Why? We're not all sycophantic royalists.

We're not all ignorant 'humans' either!!

doilooklikeicare · 05/02/2024 18:15

Except it's not.

Yes I know that now.

TheBayLady · 05/02/2024 18:05

I think Edward looks ill too. This is so unsettling

Although I am not unsettled 😂, Edward has looked very frail of late.

I’m not a monarchist by any stretch, but it’s quite a refreshing difference from the old Queen and Philip. We never got any medical info about them.
