Does Trump increase or decrease ww3 risk?

ChedderGorgeous · 29/01/2024 13:04

NATO chiefs said Europe should prepare for world war 3 with Russia within 3 years. Trump famously wants to pull put of NATO, however, last time round he actually increased spending of US for NATO. It's all very hard to predict, but you could argue Putin would see Trump as a "stronger" leader than sleepy Joe and that's all that Putin respects. AIBU to say that Trump could be better for global stability despite all his huge negatives.

Well, he's batcrap crazy and probably one of only a few people in the world who would be first to push the button and they all know it so they're probably less likely to start shit.

I agree he is a proper nuclear deterrent because he'd probably just nuke Russia just because he could and his hillbilly supporters woukd love it.
He would probably either do that or pull the US out of funding Ukraine, so Russia would just overwhelm Ukraine and the war would end that way. The only worry is that he also pulls out of NATO because then Poland and Finland may be at risk, but realistically, how far would Russia get with an exhausted and decimated army? Otoh the Hard Left and Corbynistas in the UK will find out what happens when their dream comes true and NATO is dismantled and the US stops interfering in foreign wars.

“If you think the problem with Trump is that he was 'twitting' mean things, I doubt anything is going to get through, but just in case, Trump has said repeatedly what he plans to do with a next term.” Tell this to the masses of people who complained about this. I could not care less about Trump but the ridiculous lies backfired as he will be back again because of the incompetence of the Democrats and for going to extreme like is happening in California and NY.

Also, the US citizens are realising they were much better off in the things that matter to them. Biden has been a disaster and an embarrassment. Beggars belief he has not resigned yet.

Grandmasswag · 30/01/2024 07:11

Ok I admit I don’t know the name of the guy but just yesterday on either world at one or radio 5 (think it was wato) they were discussing escalation in the ME and some military advisor to Biden’s administration said it.

Bululu · 30/01/2024 07:09

Check who sent money back to Iran when president. Clue the Democrat leader before Biden.

DT can run again but to avoid him winning they need to kick useless Biden out. Why they do not do that? Their only weapon is to demonised Trump.

The US needs to look after their own country and there is nothing wrong with that. It is not like the US citizens would vote to benefit Europe.

He was the only president in modern times that didn't lead the US into invading/heavily funding a foreign war, so track record suggests no.

Although I do think he'd pull funding from Ukraine, so that conflict would probably escalate, so maybe yes, but through non-intervention rather than intervention iyswim.

Nope, he only fucked up Afghanistan for the foreseeable future.

He'd cut funding to Ukraine and not allow weapons / drones / infrastructure to be sent there.

Ukraine would fall and what then?

EasternEcho · 30/01/2024 05:32

Everyone who says Biden "contributed" to wars, but Trump didn't "start" wars. Well, Biden didn't start any either, and Trump "contributed" to the war in Afghanistan on his watch. Biden ended it. This is an extremely simplistic way in which to view things.

Hecate01 · 30/01/2024 04:53

If we go off his previous form then the evidence clearly shows that he didn't go to war with anyone during his previous term.

The hysteria on MN will tell you different but I don't understand the comments about him being unhinged etc when his track record speaks for himself.

I'm more concerned about Biden moving nuclear weapons here than Trump starting a war right now.

Coyoacan · 30/01/2024 02:30

I'm no fan of Trump, but the Democrats really love a good war and have been longing for a war with Russia for the last ten years now.

Catpuss66 · 30/01/2024 02:11

spicedlemonpie · 29/01/2024 14:28

if war is gonna happen its gonna happen.
Might not happen or it might happen who knows.
Either way i dont care i dont have anything to lose.

Unsure of what you mean you have nothing to lose, universal credit would stop, food would be rationed no kfc, no electrify , no heating petrol would be rationed. Men would be conscripted actually women too. I actually think there is a lot to lose it took a generation to recover after the last war might take longer this time even if we win.

Aaaalrightythen · 30/01/2024 01:34

What I don't get is why we can't be trained up as drone flyers rather than being "front line". It's what women have done in Ukraine, amongst other things obviously. I just feel there's a range of less physical and more practical options to defence before we all need to be joining Dad's Army.

I wish he would’ve injected bleach into every orifice in his fat orange blubbery body.

Ah, CoatRack makes an appearance, with the same interesting quality of contributions.

CoatRack · 30/01/2024 00:21

Trump's record of no new wars and better relations with various leaders and countries (i.e. helping to prevent wars) speaks for itself.
If he gets in then we will all be better off.

The man is a billionaire and an ideological patriot, therefore impossible to buy (unlike the current guy); and if there was a shred of tangible dirt on him the media would have found it by now. I would like to see the politicians who could withstand half of the scrutiny he has had upon him over the last 8 years.

People need to stop parroting the crap they've read on the headlines or on Twitter, and engage a bit of critical thinking. The amount of fake news and hyperbole surrounding coverage of him is ridiculous once you do the slightest bit of digging. There is a reason he has the following that he has.

HRTQueen · 29/01/2024 23:47

Increase

Trump is so erratic, he reacts on his emotions and no one can predict he he will respond in a situation

having someone so unpredictable in power is dangerous

Arbor · 29/01/2024 23:35

@WarProf

Yes, that's the kind of idea they seem to have. It's wrong in every respect except WW2, but then that wing of US politics aren't known for their good grasp of history, economics, or geopolitics. Aside from the catastrophic effects of a Europe-wide war on the global economy, with the knock-on disastrous effects on the US economy, the moment the US walks away from its alliance commitments, as Trump wants to do, it loses its remaining standing in the world, which will destabilise other regions (East Asia most obviously) as other states take advantage of US weakness and further undermine US security at a point when the US would be without allies. The US can't just shift to an autarkic economy and seal themselves off from all external security threats, so they'd be screwed.

Agree with all of this. The standing of the US globally has been crumbling since 2015 before Trump was elected, and the political conversation took a distinct downturn. His re-election would erode this further, and delicate flashpoints around the globe could easily ignite. Putin will take advantage of any perceived weakness of the US, and Trump - someone easily taken advantage of, quick to anger, with a trail of disasters behind him - is a clear fault-line.

Bululu · 29/01/2024 23:00

May be talk about what Biden has been doing to prevent these wars and escalation? Those are nothing to do with Trump. He is not in charged anymore. This would be a second time Trump would be president. Why did not he do all those evil things he will do the first time he was president? But but but he was twitting mean things . Come on.

Decrease. The hysteria on MN of Trump possibly being re-elected is absurd. Trump started no wars when in power, meanwhile Biden has contributed to the wars going on with Russia/ukraine, the Middle East, the escalation in China with Taiwan all down to the incompetence/weakness of Biden!

I want some of whatever you are smoking.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 29/01/2024 22:36

Eyesopenwideawake · 29/01/2024 13:08

In all likelihood Putin has videos of Trump that Trump would not want the world to see. Putin does NOT respect Trump, he sees him as his puppet who would throw Ukraine under a bus and facilitate Putin's ambitions to recreate the Soviet Union. He is very, very dangerous to world peace.

This.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 29/01/2024 22:35

Trump increases the risk to a near certainly.

Putin doesn’t see Trump as stronger. At all. He seems him as incredibly weak, or possibly he’s already owned by the Kremlin (kompromat or similar).

Biden isn’t ideal but he’s worlds better than Trump.

CaptainCachitoo · 29/01/2024 22:31

trump is but one person, and in the scale of things there are other groups that are a lot more influential than just trump etc

Facts.

Trump is a maverick, the kind of politician who will do things differently and that can be a good thing. His willingness to at least try and build bridges with our enemies, such as his meeting with Kim (the dictator, not the reality star) is a positive IMO. Ok so the outcome of that wasn’t a roaring success, but it’s good to at least attempt to open a dialogue. Because really, what is the alternative?

Lesina · 29/01/2024 22:30

Quite frankly I have got to stage of ‘if I can take my grandson to Disneyworld and visit Thailand one last time’ I’ll die happy. If these megalomanics decide to kill us all, what can we do? Other than consider in the last 3 minutes before Armageddon wether we could have made better voting choices? We are indeed Turkeys voting for Christmas

Wanttobeok · 29/01/2024 22:22

I was thinking about this earlier. I think decrease.

He's a twat but sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

Camp 1 - unstable maniac with his finger the trigger
Vs
Camp 2 - unstable arsehole with his finger on the trigger...

I think Putin is more likely to tread carefully around that than Biden who just mumbles ineffective bollocks
