Does Trump increase or decrease ww3 risk?

NATO chiefs said Europe should prepare for world war 3 with Russia within 3 years. Trump famously wants to pull put of NATO, however, last time round he actually increased spending of US for NATO. It's all very hard to predict, but you could argue Putin would see Trump as a "stronger" leader than sleepy Joe and that's all that Putin respects. AIBU to say that Trump could be better for global stability despite all his huge negatives.

Decrease. The hysteria on MN of Trump possibly being re-elected is absurd. Trump started no wars when in power, meanwhile Biden has contributed to the wars going on with Russia/ukraine, the Middle East, the escalation in China with Taiwan all down to the incompetence/weakness of Biden!

Yeah I think Biden is more of a war risk.

Of course I hate Trump but I think he'd keep out of war actually

suburberphobe · 01/10/2024 23:32

Had a laugh at American Presidents don't do anything except be a figure head.

Trump lay in bed all day eating hamburgers during his presidency.

Is that who you want around while the world is on fire?!

suburberphobe · 01/10/2024 23:28

Trump can't even get his hair together, doubt he would get anything together either....

DefendingPan · 11/02/2024 10:42

Trump threatened to pull out of NATO during a dispute when trying to strong arm European countries to meet their spending commitments. He was actually trying to strengthen it.

Putin waited until after Trump left office to invade Ukraine for a reason; he didn’t know how Trump would react and didn’t want a major war.

Trump's latest remarks at a campaign event yesterday : " One of the presidents of a big country stood up and said, ‘Well, sir, if we don’t pay and we’re attacked by Russia, will you protect us?,’” Trump said during a rally at Coastal Carolina University. “I said, ‘You didn’t pay. You’re delinquent.’ He said, ‘Yes, let’s say that happened.’ No, I would not protect you. In fact, I would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want.” - Washington Post

He's making world affairs corporate: transactional in nature. This cannot work where there are inequalities in size, GDP, climate, population, etc., and where there are aggressors and oppressors. This is not how a country gains or keeps allies.

He's referring to a question he was asked at the 2018 NATO summit when he was president. Knowing Trump the "big country" asking questions is fabricated, but his words certainly express his inclinations.

Oh I see. I missed the first quote mark and thought it was the journalist relaying an event

I was going to say writing had gone down hill as he’s writing like Trump speaks 😬

I get it now. I think he’s always gone on about people paying, which is slightly different to being an aggressor

Not saying it’s great for Europe though, maybe he will still be in NATO as without that we’ll feel it through payments (hopefully not worse)

Which country’s president I wonder

NuNameNuMe · 11/02/2024 07:07

Say what you want about trump
but he is definately not a war hawk

Came back to this thread to share same Trump speech as the poster above. Trump is encouraging war against the US allies. Fuck him. And laughable if you think money saved on war will ever find it's way to he poorest in US society. Brexit was supposed to do the same for the UK. Nothing has been levelled up, it's all been driven down.

What happens if the US withdraws and we end up being pulled into a war in Europe and yet have no army to speak of?

Jennybeans401 · 01/02/2024 07:52

Biden is a weak leader, they really need someone better. I think Russia sees the west weak and indecisive. They see that the people no longer are loyal to their countries. I can't see a citizen army!!

@CoatRack you are backing up your position with how many ‘likes’ you get? How old are you? 5?

EasternEcho · 31/01/2024 15:48

@itwasntmetho I think you are overlooking the weapons and defense industry, and war profiteering. In the US they are huge donors, lobbyists and special interest groups. WIthout warmongering and wars these companies will not profit. Politicians always talk with a forked tongue when they say they want to put the US first. It doesn't necessarily mean the masses.

Livida · 31/01/2024 14:23

A reminder of the below, summed up here: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/nov/30/trump-ukraine-alleged-bribery-impeachment-inquiry

Livida · 31/01/2024 14:22

Oh yeah, and on his interest at home not abroad, that's nicely encapsulated by his attempts to bribe Zelensky and promote Russia narratives about the US election that suited both him and Moscow. His "peace keeping" is actually complete self-interest at the expense of his own country, let alone Europe

Nope, he only fucked up Afghanistan for the foreseeable future.

He'd cut funding to Ukraine and not allow weapons / drones / infrastructure to be sent there.

Ukraine would fall and what then?

Ukraine's gonna fall anyway unless they get round the neogitating table and agree to give up the Donbas - just like Zelenskyy wanted to do in Easter 2022 but Biden talked him out of it.

Militarily the war is at a stalemate and Zelensky's approval ratings in Ukraine are dire. He's increasingly isolated and many of his closest advisers have faded away form his circle.

Ukraine War, so easy for us in the West to wear the flag and cheer on freedom blah blah blah but unless a person has actually experienced a war, theyire opinion and their flag waving is bullcrap.

Poland is re-arming itself, quickly. It's been doing that for about a year now. Poland isn't stupid.

Is this a joke? Its been well established that Russia interfered with the US election to put Trump in power. Trump acts like a bully on the world stage but he publicly licked Putin’s boots throughout his time as President.

It's also well established this election meddling had very little effect.
Very much overplayed.

Will Trump accelerate or decelerate a war spreading? No one knows.
The facts atm are the US and Russia are involved in proxy wars with each other in the Middle East and Europe.
I believe NATO will eventually enter a land war with Russia shortly. Trump or no Trump.

Mambo19866 · 31/01/2024 07:27

Say what you want about trump
but he is definately not a war hawk. When he was in power there were no new wars and he did the Abraham accords causing a lot of stability in the Middle East. He is very anti war if you actually decide to listen to what he actually says rather than what the headlines tell you. I encourage you to actually go and check if he says what the media tells you. I was very anti trump until I started checking everything the media was accusing him of and so much was just flat out made up that it changed my opinion. Ye he isn’t the most polished person and he can say some very questionable things but as a president he was probably the best America has had in a long time if you just look at the results. Biden by all
metrics has been a shitshow and even 90% of dems would agree with that hs made the US a laughing stock and makes the US look weak.

AliceA2021 · 31/01/2024 07:02

Trump's a massive willy waver with no brain and reactionary

Read the responses to your posts CoatRack and reflect on them. It will be what they call a learning opportunity.

You wouldn't say that if you saw how many likes I get. But when the 'responses' boil down to "lol", and "hur dur your bad person", I'm inclined to call it an audience problem.

I'd far rather you look again at what I say, and then ask yourself why all you have in return is the equivalent of an Inca being told that there isn't a sun god.

Trump's record of no new wars and better relations with various leaders and countries (i.e. helping to prevent wars) speaks for itself.
If he gets in then we will all be better off.

The man is a billionaire and an ideological patriot, therefore impossible to buy (unlike the current guy); and if there was a shred of tangible dirt on him the media would have found it by now. I would like to see the politicians who could withstand half of the scrutiny he has had upon him over the last 8 years.

People need to stop parroting the crap they've read on the headlines or on Twitter, and engage a bit of critical thinking. The amount of fake news and hyperbole surrounding coverage of him is ridiculous once you do the slightest bit of digging. There is a reason he has the following that he has.

I’ve never felt the need for MN to have a “haha” react emoji until I just read this post
