To be sick of vapes everywhere

I can’t seem to go anywhere these days without a white cloud of disgusting candy flavoured vapour being blown in my face. It’s gotten to a point where I truly believe that it’s worse than smoking - at least most smokers are well aware that it’s an anti-social behaviour and do it away from other people, and outdoors! With vapers there seem to be absolutely no boundaries or thought that not everyone wants to be covered in their chemical smoke.

Absolutely horrible habit that’s catching on to far too many young children. A ban can’t come soon enough - even my 19 year old DD is sick of her friends being addicted to them. They’re like dummies in some cases, never out of their mouths!

I noticed a lot of young parents vaping whilst out with babies and toddlers. Totally ignorant about the vaping effect on their offspring. By the time facts come out it will be a vaping endemic and hospitals full of patients with lung damage. It is happening already.

YANBU, I fucking hate vaping and think some awful health effects will come out in the next 10/20 years. I can’t say I’ll have too much sympathy - they all seem more than happy to blow their disgusting synthetic candy floss smoke all over my child’s buggy and in crowded areas, so I’ll save my concern for people with more respect for others.

This! It is absolutely disgusting and people who vape have no respect for anybody else. And the ones who have it slung round their necks like a dummy should get a grip. Clutching them while going about their days. Pathetic!

satsumaqueen · 19/02/2025 11:19

I agree. We went to the zoo last weekend and there were people vaping all over the place despite smoking and vaping being banned. I don’t think they should be allowed to be sold to the public at all. They should only be available on paid prescription from a GP and only for those wanting to quit smoking.

My 6 year old son is obsessed with the fact there's vape everywhere. I'm always having to reassure him there isn't any in shops but he will cover his mouth with his hood everywhere

Gettingbysomehow · 19/02/2025 09:08

You should try living in my house. My neighbour smokes 60 cigarettes a day, horrible cheap ones and sometimes has smoking mates round. My house stinks, they may as well come over and smoke in my living room. It's disgusting.

OldBun58 · 19/02/2025 08:50

Neighbours vaping in the flat below has caused me extensive smell allergy. I am now allergic to not only vapes but all fragrances too, including those in cleaning products and essential oils. When vapers open windows in their flat below us, the smell rises up to our level above and enters our windows. Sometimes we smell weed mixed with vapes too. It causes me severe allergies, and in hot weather I am unable to open windows to cool the apartment or get fresh air.
They also spray their lobby and communal staircase with perfume to hide the smell, which I have become allergic to since they moved in 2 years ago. My husband suffers from lung cancer and has breathing difficulties. He also gets affected by these fumes that irritate his lungs and cause profound coughing.
It has become a nightmare living in a flat, which we are having to sell and move to a detached house despite very tight budget.
Vapers seem to have no conciensious or consderation for others. People, wake up, the vaping pandemic has arrived! And it will cost NHS a lot more than the profit made from vapes.

I hate it too and just cigarettes in general. It’s disgusting. If you breathe it in, it’s the smoke that’s come out from someone else’s lungs because they’ve blown it out 🤢

You do realise there's air from everyone's lungs around you, all the time right?

I understand breathing in someone's second hand smoke of vapour isn't nice, but your comment from their lungs doesn't make sense. Do you give runners a wide berth?

Paw2024 · 29/01/2024 00:51

@MaloneMeadow she's not the first one. An old colleague told me how bad vapes were as she was on one of her 40 cigs a day...

Paw2024 · 28/01/2024 23:37

On the other hand this is why there needs to be clear messaging that popcorn lung isn't a thing with vaping and it is safer than smoking

Comment on Facebook I saw from a friend
"Having seen all the reports about what that shit does your your lungs, I'll stick to my cigarettes"

How have we ended up in a situation where smokers think smoking is safer than nicotine replacement with a vape? Even when stop smoking, NHS and cancer research all agree it is safer Confused

The government statement explicitly says that concerns over long term health impact have factored into the ban. Re: the smoking is safer than vaping comment, that is alarming and I’d be amending my friends list

I mean I'm a vaper and still agree with disposable vapes being wasteful
It's really easy to get a simple set up that will last years

MaloneMeadow · 28/01/2024 22:40

Disposable vapes are officially being banned, further details coming from the government tomorrow!! Thank goodness, definitely a big step in the right direction. Very timely - has Rishi been reading on MN? 😆

OK, but you’re objecting to a product on environmental grounds that’s got little impact compared to other uses of plastic. That’s like railing against yogurt or margarine because they come in plastic containers.

I object to disposable vapes because they are are so utterly obnoxious and unnecessary. The same can't really be said about yoghurt (margarine maybe)

Where did I mention banning anything?

At least engage your brain if you’re going to try to be smart.

At least I avoided being rude to you.

desperatemouse · 27/01/2024 13:35

EarthlyNightshade · 27/01/2024 11:56

Presumably you would ban alcohol as well?
What about things like paracetamol?

WiddlinDiddlin · 27/01/2024 12:29

@exLtEveDallas They are sub-ohm vapes that you inhale direct-to-lung, meaning you can inhale much more and much more naturally too (same as you breath direct to your lungs). So the exhale is far bigger and more satsifying, more flavour. It also produces big clouds which some folk really like, though its not necessary to do that, it will still be a bigger exhale than a mouth to lung vape.

Its a faster nicotine hit and you're not sucking it into your mouth, then to lungs (as you would with a cigarette or if you sucked a straw in a drink) which is probably better for mouth hygiene/teeth.

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 27/01/2024 12:28

desperatemouse · 26/01/2024 13:11

Not true.

a family friend’s daughter just buried her husband (aged 30) and heart attack brought on by vaping was the cause of death.

honestly I’d not thank you for a vape over a cigarette.

It’s about predisposition.

desperatemouse · 26/01/2024 13:54

I couldn’t careless tbh.

when you’ve been to the funeral of one person then it’s one person too many.

HTH.

I mentioned to another parent I didn't understand how easily they get them. Apparently they buy them off places online. That's quite a worry of what they are buying and what's in them. I don't know personally how accurate this is but unless parents are getting them or older siblings they have to readily be getting them somewhere. I did see a parent once purchase a vape without the canister (is that what it's called) so the child could pretend they were vaping. The pressure must be immense.

Apparently in DD’s school a few boys in her year were re-selling them after bulk buying online.. that’s how she managed to get her hands on one at 15!

I don't get the 'dummy' comments.

Surely a dummy is something that is permanently in the mouth? I've never seen a vaper walking round with one stuck in their mouth.

Hyperbole doesn't help in these situations, it just makes you sound like you don't know what you are talking about.

I think the vapes that chuck out huge wafts of steam are called something like 'cloud' vapes. I agree, I'm not keen on them and don't really see the appeal, but I also don't see the issue with 'normal' vapes. Frankly I'd much rather smell the fruity, cleaner smells of vapes than the dirty smoky smells of fags and weed that hang around far longer and stick to clothing, bags and even books!

That hyperbole is quite accurate in my experience when it comes to teens these days.. vapes have become the new phones, can’t go anywhere without them! A few of DD’s friends are so addicted that they genuinely wouldn’t be able to get through the day without having one in their hand or mouth half the time.

They should be made available from pharmacies only and nowhere else.
