To never ever buy from Snag again?

I'm just beyond disgusted and feel I need to vent.

I've always liked snag tights. I bought vouchers to save them in Lockdown, have spent hundreds with them. Liked their products and ethos- inclusive and female led.

Yesterday I went on their website, can definitely say it's my fault that I clicked on their NSFW collection, but I didn't expect what I found. Patches saying ' chke me' and 'cMSL*t'. Maybe I'm just a pearl clutching prude but I found these really offensive and not what I expect from a company with their ethos. I've put a pic below.

I posted in their Facebook group which I'm on highlighting that I thought this was a misjudgement on their part, that these were very misogynistic, and fed into a culture of violence against women which claims the life of a woman or girl every 11 minutes.

They declined my post and sent me a reply which I'll attach- I'm kink shaming apparently.

I find this really reprehensible and never want to spend a penny with them again!

I never thought I was prudish, whatever adults do between themselves is up to them, but I don't really want to buy from a clothing provider who is promoting this- aibu!?

@neverbeenskiing

This is a good point. Where do you draw the line? Someone could suffocate because they were gagged.. or even giving oral/face sitting etc...
Tragic accidents happen.
andit's not just sex is it? What about boxing and wrestling or any sport that puts you in a bit of physical danger?
of course capacious adults have the right to engage in these things
yeah there's been cases of abusive men trying to use sex act gone wrong as a get out clause from murders they have committed.. but I don't think any have actually got away with that as it was perfectly obvious it was nonsense..
There is a clear difference between abuse and consensual sexual behaviours..
and yes I do know there's a problem again with abusive men using the entire concept of S&M to try to get away with harming women. Sadly I have first hand experience of this. But I'm still not out here trying to shut down other consenting adults fetish stuff due to that. I really don't think it's 'normalising violence' and actually I think if I had known more about what S&M actually was really, and what fetish communities were about.. I wouldn't have fallen for the abuse I did.

You know exactly what I mean.

It ought to be unlawful even with consent. It is impossible to tell if a woman has given full consent as it is clear that some women will be coerced into this kind of activity or they might not object to a hand on the neck but what will they do if the partner squeezes to tight?

It's fucking shameful that this is normalised and if this makes me a kink (which is underplaying this perversion somewhat) shamer then so be it. I don't give a fuck. No woman benefits from male violence. The fact that some claim 'it's fun' doesn't mean that companies should be promoting it by having links to websites that sell badges trying to glorify it.

So you think a woman shouldn't be able to lawfully consent to choking during sex, because even if she says she consents there is a chance she could potentially have been coerced? You could apply this to any and all forms of sexual activity. If you were to criminalise every consensual sex act that women could potentially be manipulated, pressured or forced into or that could potentially be physically harmful if someone takes it to the extreme there would be nothing left!

I enjoy a firm hand on my neck during sex, like a lot of people of both genders. Does that mean that if my DH places his hand firmly on my neck, with my full consent, you think he should be criminalised because he could potentially squeeze too hard? Or because even if I'm adamant I consented, I might have been coerced into saying that? We can't arrest and lock people up for things we think they might do.

SerafinasGoose · 18/01/2024 18:38

Not surprised.

That's the sort of market they've been targetting for some time.

PrawnDumplings · 18/01/2024 18:25

Yeah they are ridiculous. Sadly.

Doublethecookies · 18/01/2024 18:07

@Bibbidybobbidyroo I totally agree with you

Igmum · 18/01/2024 18:05

OMG! Male kink prioritised over women's lives. Definitely boycott OP and I'd be tempted to kink shame them all over the internet

NotMyTights · 18/01/2024 16:57

Bibbidybobbidyroo · 18/01/2024 15:44

Its a completely different website.

Hi, I haven't fully caught up but I have said before I got there through the main website by clicking nsfw Instagram and then link in bio
The landing page looks similar to snags website:
'Snag want to bring you the best, most inclusive sexy products out there'

I didn't go off the homepage
Scrolled down to see sexy outfits, suspenders, and then underneath the ch*ke me badge

Again how that is an 'inclusive sexy product'

I can see people have said it's ok between consenting adults but the reality and complexity in real life is that there is vulnerability, co-ercion, and this narrative all feeds into the 'rough sex' defence that has plagued so many courtrooms.

Plus revealing my medical background here but even if you find asphyxiation sexy- it's so so risky-there is no 'safe' level.

I think you will find choking women without their consent already IS criminal......

Hmmmmaybe · 18/01/2024 14:39

@Bibbidybobbidyroo being sexually aroused by being violent towards a woman is not perversion? Only if you think it’s acceptable to be aroused by violence against women.

It depends if you perceive the act to be violent? There are all kinds of roleplay and fantasies that would include it that when done properly and safely, are fun and fine.
The danger IMO and what is part of the bigger problem, is when women are coerced into this sort of play. That is where the danger lies. Huge red flags for me personally. When porn normalises rough sex so young men think its a normal part of the act and its not etc.

FreebieHound · 18/01/2024 14:53

@MotherofGorgons (and others), Snag's accounts are all on Companies House if anyone's interested. The latest annual report contains a list of perceived risks to the business. Here's an extract:

... management consider that the principal risks to the business are:
Brand and reputational risk: the strength of the brand and our reputation are fundamental to the business. Management plans marketing campaigns carefully and have a proactive approach to social media monitoring. Any negative publicity such as customer complaints are dealt with in a timely manner.

Seems a little odd when you look at the horrors on the Snag NSFW Facebook page. But maybe perverts are their target market these days? Maybe this creepy shit is on brand for them?

Wonder what they'll do to deal with this thread (and the much longer-running one on Tattle) "in a timely manner".

Who decides what is kink and what is perversion?

Well choking women with or without consent ought to be criminal.

MotherofGorgons · 18/01/2024 14:27

I guess customers do.
Is Snag profitable?

ManyATrueWord · 18/01/2024 13:59

We aren't talking about "kinks", we are talking about perversions. Pushing perversion as normal.

Who decides what is kink and what is perversion?

emsiewun · 18/01/2024 14:14

Is this company connected to Popsy? Some of their marketing methods found similar.

I think the normalising of choking is a horrible thing. There can't be much profit in them even. You couldn't possibly wear these patches in public.

Skeletonythings · 18/01/2024 13:50

JaneJeffer · 18/01/2024 13:20

some WOMEN have a choking kink.
Some women are stupid

And their partners need to step up and say "not on my watch"

tty · 18/01/2024 13:37

Ok so these aren't on their normal website but a completely separate website that's literally called nsfw and these aren't even made by snag but in their 'makers market'. It's not pushing anything down anyones throat you have literally gone onto a kink website shop 🤣

tty · 18/01/2024 13:34

I can't find what you are talking about anywhere on their website?

WotNoUserName · 18/01/2024 13:34

Notamum12345577 · 18/01/2024 09:06

Some women like being choked during sex, and the patches are aimed at women to buy. So allowing them to buy them, isn’t that part of ‘smashing the patriarchy’?

Maybe they do. But do they need to advertise to everyone with badges?

Would you want your child to ask you what a cum slut was because they'd read it on a badge stuck to someone's bag?

Do what you fucking like in private. I don't need to know about it. I don't care about it. Woohoo, you have sex. So edgy and different. Guess how you were conceived. 🙄
