Love this song ❤️

niairin · 19/08/2024 12:58

Hey I found this thread because I'm planning our wedding service and this is on my list! Also 'our' song.

Wondering if any of you included it would share what other songs / readings you used? I'm asking because we are definitely more realist than romantic and a lot of suggestions are very saccharine in my opinion :-) I half wish I was doing a religious service so I wouldn't have to make the decisions 😂

Pickledprawn · 15/01/2024 16:15

It's beautiful

StrawberrySquash · 14/01/2024 22:31

Yes, it's a great song. And yes, another person who sat there with her (sadly now ex!) partner going, it's about us meeting.

windywalk · 14/01/2024 21:46

Jarvis is just fabulous!

TippiHedrin · 14/01/2024 20:52

It’s no O.U.

DeadButDelicious · 14/01/2024 20:28

'it's not all chocolate boxes and roses. It's dirtier than that'.

Lord have mercy that line does things to me 😂😂. I also love Acrylic Afternoons, he can do anything he likes on that pink quilted eiderdown 😂😂. There is something so incredibly sexy about that man.

AreYouShittingMe · 13/01/2024 13:58

Jarvis reads his book 'Good Pop, Bad Pop' for those wanting a fix of his voice.
@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie completely with you on that!
I always took the 'I wrote this song two hours before we met...' bit as Jarvis's lyrical meanderings, rather than what PP have said about him 'settling'. There's something about the way the whole song is put together that just makes my heart soar.
FEELING CALLED LOVE has some amazing lyrics (as quoted above). And I love 'it's not all chocolate boxes and roses. It's dirtier than that'. The right balance of 'I love you and I also fancy the pants off you'.

@DeadButDelicious I’d like to have Jarvis on one side and Alan Rickman on the other. All they’d have to do is talk.

During the last song at the tour gig I went to last summer he did the usual intro of all the band members and finished with "and my name is Jarvis...and I was born to perform" before launching straight back into the finale of Common People, and I swear the entire audience swooned.

Jarvis is a genius, absolutely love Pulp. Still gutted that I missed seeing them on their recent tour.

Pudmyboy · 12/01/2024 23:45

Brilliant love song, such tender lyrics, without the cynical edge of other Pulp songs

DeadButDelicious · 12/01/2024 23:29

Absolutely a love song! Different Class is such a good album. I also like;

"It doesn't make no sense, no
It's not convenient, no
It doesn't fit my plans, no
It's something I don't understand, oh
F-E-E-L-I-N-G-C-A-double-L-E-D
L-O-V-E, what is this thing that is happening to me?"

It just sums up that all consuming kind of love where you had no idea you could feel so strongly about another person and it drives you a bit mad for a bit.

Honestly Jarvis could read the phone book and it would be seductive. 😍

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/01/2024 23:10

Beautiful.

I could listen to Jarvis’ voice forever. In fact, when my waters broke early for dc2 I did exactly that _ listened to him on a Walkman, on a loop, for a week.

Mojodojocasahaus · 12/01/2024 23:09

Where would we be now if we’d never met…

Its lovely, had it at our wedding as a table name

Morewineplease10 · 12/01/2024 23:08

It is a fucking great track!

So many amazing songs, I love their lyrics.

Thinking of David's Last Summer now.

Piemam · 12/01/2024 22:27

Proper love song! It's full of real things, actions, thoughts, etc. That's what makes it Pulp but the lyrics make it a love song. ❤️ Aah to all those who had it as their first dance!

VerbenaGirl · 12/01/2024 22:24

Yep - first dance at my first wedding!

I love that song, in fact the whole album! Especially I Spy, it's so Machiavellian 😈must dig it out again and take myself back to 1997...

Omg! My favourite song since my dad bought me the album when I was 11 (probably inappropriate, who cares) what an excellent song and album!

I've never found people who were as passionate!

ThreeTescoBags · 12/01/2024 22:22

ExtraOnions · 12/01/2024 21:19

There’s not a bad song on the album.

Pencil Skirt is one of my favourites:

When you raise your pencil skirt
Like a veil before my eyes
Like the look upon his face
As he's zipping up his flies

Oh, well, I know that you're engaged to him
Oh, but I know you want something to play with, baby

"Now you can tell some lies about the good times that you've had.
But I've kissed your mother twice and now I'm working on your dad"

👏

There's no better album before or since in my opinion.

I’m with you. It’s a great song, but I always took the sentiment to be a bit tongue in cheek - a nonchalant, sort of ‘you’ll do’ vibe rather than a ‘goodness thank heavens the stars aligned’…

Pure Pulp and that's why it's the best love song ever 😏

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 12/01/2024 20:45

Absolutely a love song, had it as first dance at our wedding. Reminds me so much of meeting and almost not meeting DH.

Same, that's mine and DH's "song"!

A vibe that reminds me of Tim Minchin’s “If I didn’t have you.”

A realist, not a romantic!
