To vaccinate newborn or not

confusedaboutclothes · 10/01/2024 10:37

I know this is a very sensitive subject, but i’m asking please for FACTS only - I don’t want answers like ‘because the NHS recommends you to vaccinate your baby etc’

Id like to point out i’m not ‘anti vax’ as such, but covid really opened my eyes to researching vaccines etc i’ve done my own research on whether i should be vaccinating my newborn but it’s hard to find unbiased facts.

What I don’t like, is the pressure that is put on us to do as we’re told with our babies. I don’t like the constant reminders, the phone calls and the pressure to vaccinate - it all feels like a box ticking exercise not because the NHS are actually worried about my baby.

Please be kind, I really am confused about this and would love some different perspectives

I didn’t. Fewer times she had to be stuck with a needle, no reactions. As is the case for almost everyone.

My older dc did and quite severely so we decided to spilt them all up for dd and no reactions. It’s probably rare but that’s how it is with our dc so was better to do it that way

Catnip19 · 19/03/2024 21:16

Does anyone else read the “I’ve done my research” shit by anti vaxxers the same as me as in

”IvE dOnE mY rEsEaRCh”

🤣🤣🤣

Hatfrog99 · 19/03/2024 20:45

The NHS is on its knees, money is tight and many things can’t be achieved BUT yet they continue paying millions of pounds a year to provide these vaccines for babies because ultimately they save lives not because they fancy offering them to tick a box.

I’m not gonna be kind, what kind of daft person doesn’t want to protect her innocent helpless child because she doesn’t like being told what to do…

If that was the case would I present myself on a forum that is known for being very hostile at times, in order to receive help on the matter?

This thread seems to have all of a sudden cropped up again so felt it would be a good idea to update…I did get my baby vaccinated. Thank you to all of those that took the time to be kind and helpful with their responses - it certainly was a very positive eye opener.

What I will say is i can’t believe the level of rudeness that has also come with this post - it’s not normal or OK to name call just because someone has asked for advice on something.

Candace Owens is not a human being; she is a poisonous snake. Actually, that's unfair to poisonous snakes.

And she's giving "expert opinion" on vaccinations when she didn't complete her undergraduate degree in journalism, has a career in admin and is a prominent pro-Trump advocate?

And people think she is more trustworthy than umpteen medical doctors and PhDs working for the NHS?

Really is not hope for some people is there?

pimplebum · 19/03/2024 18:17

Ffs the NHs recommended it , end of ! What more do you need to know?

You are an anti-vaxer loon if you think you need "to do your own research"

How can you, a lay person, which no access to actual research papers or laboratory or several PhD's discover something that government scientists have overlooked ???

we split them all and did our own vaccine schedule so as not to overwhelm dd . More appts but no reactions

nadine90 · 19/03/2024 17:33

I’m glad that you have a resounding answer and have decided to get your baby vaccinated! It’s not only the best thing for them, but for everyone they come in contact with.
I’m sorry that some people have been cruel. A lot of damage has been done/lives lost because of misinformation. I hope the reaction you’ve received won’t put you off from seeking clarity in the future. It’s tough being a new mum, you are wearing your heart outside of your body and just want the best for your baby x

None of my three kids ever had a vaccine . Two are now adults and one is a teenager . Never had any health issues . They are able to get the vaccines as adults if they choose to do so .
It’s a personal choice and you will get strong opinions either way .
I chose not to vaccinate as my first was born in the midst of the MMR controversy- which unless you had a baby at that time - it’s hard to explain how difficult it was .

You've been lucky , your kids are ok because of other people's kids being vaccinated.
I'd be embarrassed to say this out loud.

I’m 62, so I was born before the measles vaccine became available in the UK and at a time when there was a shortage of the polio vaccine, for example. When I was a child, there was another girl on our small street in London who was permanently disabled and had to wear a metal leg brace because she’d had polio. My brother caught measles when he was 2 and emerged from the infection with chronic asthma, hay fever, eczema and a weakened heart. He passed the measles onto me, aged 1, and apparently I nearly died. This was all on one ordinary small street with around 12 children living on it, pre-vaccines. People have forgotten what life was like pre-vaccine and it gives them a false sense of security. Vaccinate your children, people!

Yup. I’m a bit younger (59), but kids in callipers were commonplace when I was a child. My friend is blind in one eye because of measles.

CatMadam · 19/03/2024 17:23

Vaccines, including the Covid vaccine, are safe and necessary. In my opinion, choosing not to vaccinate your child is akin to neglect.

@NoCloudsAllowed - She isn’t sharing “secret information” that only “gormless fools” and “conspiracy theorists” pay for, she’s done extensive research (something that I and many other parents don’t have the time to do), compiled it altogether and is now sharing it with us “gormless fools” that are actually bothering to do our own research & educate ourselves on something incredibly important instead of just believing what we’re told is the “right thing to do”. What’s the difference between subscribing to Netflix to watch something you’re interested in vs subscribing to The Daily Wire to do the same? I would rather do my own research & ask questions when it comes to something as serious as my baby being injected instead of going into it blind, especially when every vaccine comes with a list of possible side effects & risks (all that can be found online by the way, for free). I would also just like to point out that my original comment was 100% judgement free, no mention of having an issue with parents that choose to vaccinate their children but yet here you are name calling & being judgemental.. yet us “conspiracy theorists, gormless fools” are the problem? Strange.

@whatsitcalledwhen - Confirmed by who? The news who control the narrative & print headlines that they know will get a reaction, or? To be fair, I didn’t state this in my original post but like OP, I’m not necessarily on about the Covid situation or vaccine, I’m on about the vaccine programme we’re expected to follow with our babies as I assumed that’s what OP was asking about. I am incredibly confident that I did not pay to listen to someone lie but thank you for your reply & for not being judgemental. I’ll check out that link regardless 😊

@IAmAnIdiot123 - I know you didn’t direct this at me but I would just like to say, it’s not just some anti vaxxers that try to push their stance on parents that choose to vaccinate, it definitely goes the other way too, you can’t deny that. Both sides can be childish enough to name call, both sides can be silly enough to not do their own proper research but what it comes down to is parents who adore their children simply making what they believe is the best decision for their child and that’s totally fair. Each to their own 100% but we shouldn’t be judging one another either way.

That’s great you’ve done your research. Would you mind sharing your literature review here so we can all benefit?
Or haven’t you done one? Do you even know what one is, why they are important?

I don't understand why antivaxxers push their stance on everyone. By not vaccinating their children, they are relying solely on herd Immunity. Surely they should be encouraging everyone around them to get vaccinated so they can have the benefit without actually vaccinating their own children?

Edited

Antivaxxers are extremely dim. They wouldn't think it through that far.

You do your own research? That's fantastic!

Where did you get your PhD from?
Where is your lab?
How many scientists do you work with?

oh sorry, I get it. You mean that you watch nonsense videos on YouTube.........................

ToWhitToWhoo · 19/03/2024 16:18

I suggest that you visit an old graveyard and look at all the tombstones to young children from the 19th and early 20th centuries. While antibiotics and other products of modern medical science play their part, vaccination and sanitation are the two biggest reasons why there are far fewer such tombstones nowadays.

A book that I strongly recommend is Perri Klass: The Best Medicine: How Science and Public Health Gave Children a Future; Norton, 2020.

Dogscanteatonions · 19/03/2024 14:34

Well I suppose an alternative to vaccinating would be to have lots of babies like they did in years gone by to ensure at least some made it to adulthood

So there is that OP

@bew96 I suggest using the Fact Check search and look for articles about Candace Owens.

That's an excellent idea. She comes up 91 times.

It's impressive that she gets people to pay for access when there's so much similar misinformation available online for free.

Hi

I posted it with original post but as people may not be reading all posts.

the oxford vaccine knowledge project website is a good source for independent, evidenced based information on vaccines. Definitely worth looking at if you want extra information.
