Worst Christmas present

I feel ungrateful but also very disappointed. My husband is crap at gifting but this really takes the biscuit. I am a 53 year old woman and we have been together for 26 years. He bought me a periscope. Am I being unreasonable to be disappointed and ungrateful?😓

If he wanted you to see the view from the top of the house, a drone would have been a good idea and it would have had a few more purposes too! Merry Christmas all the same

I didn’t receive a gift from my partner .
is this saying he hopes soon to be ex?
be careful what you wish for eh?
tosser

I'm sorry :(

Will you bin him?

We, very bizarrely, got a very heavy marble rolling pin with a wooden stand from our neighbours. They gifted our kids really amazing tech, so I'm hoping it was lurking at the back of a cupboard and has been regifted. I have absolutely no idea what I said to her to make her think it would be a good gift. I've got a perfectly good wooden on which is 30 years old and does for all my rolling needs!

What will you do with it?

Bookworm512 · 26/12/2023 09:14

Thanks everyone. Maybe IABU. I might crack it out later to check the view from the skylight! Next year I think I'll suggest no presents to avoid disappointment.

I am stuck on crotchless thongs. Like, what’s left if you take the crotch out of a thong? A piece of string?

DuckyShincracker · 26/12/2023 09:07

I'd be doing impressions of sonar pings and maybe a few aye, aye Captain's for good measure. If he starts to irritate you say you are on silent running and then shout depth charge! I used to love the old submarine war films!

Not me (I swear) but a friend got a bottle of 'intimate wash" from her partner's grandparents for Christmas. They had been together about 7 years at that point...

My DD and DGD both asked for deodorant products. One asked for Lume and the other, some special anti-perspirant because she does sports and sweats.

But, getting Summer's Eve or Vagisil wash would be past my abilities. I do have limits....kind of.....😎😆

Denimdenimdenim · 26/12/2023 08:22

Sorry, OP. This made me laugh, a lot 🤣

I told my dad about it and he couldn't believe it either.

Definitely do the Instagram page, I would make an account just to see your updates haha.

I would love a periscope, especially if I had a skylight. I honestly would much rather have that than diamonds. Though preferably a telescope.

Me too! Genuinely gutted I don’t have a skylight…….yet…….

I think I’d rather have a periscope. I got a box of biscuits which DH received as a gift and showed me at the time, which then sat in the kitchen cupboard for weeks. He took it out, wrapped it and gave it to me. Pathetic

Well I hope you called him out on it dreadful behaviour, just vile

merrymelodies · 26/12/2023 07:59

I got two backscratchers from my DM.

Stressybetty · 26/12/2023 03:17

DH and I agreed we'd just give token presents under 20 quid so wasn't expecting much.
Didn't expect to be presented with a latex mask of a black poodle.
He'd got himself a Labrador one and thought we could film YouTube videos on dog boarding in disguise 🫤
Tried it on and can't even see out of it!

It takes a lot to render me speechless but that definitely would lol.

Jafferz · 26/12/2023 07:49

WRONG THREAD SORRY

YABU for comparing this to a gift of alcohol for an alcoholic. It's just not the same.

Otherwise YANBU.

I also love it because it's insane.
Use it to spy on him, peer round doors at what he's up to until he realises it's a mental present.

What did you say?

I like this idea. I can just imagine my partner sitting on the toilet as I peer around the door with my new periscope 🤣

Cheesestring67 · 26/12/2023 07:45

I feel I may ne able to top trump this.

One year, I received a Twerking Llama toy...as I'd mentioned it looked funny on the advert. Wtf. Year after, a camcorder?!!! I have a phone and don't go out filming on the weekends.

This thread has me in fits of giggles. I got a step ladder. Apparently I’m always asking for dh to bring a ladder home from the farm so I can clean the windows ??

I joked several times that I would have liked to have a pink hammer. Seriously! But he doesnt seem to think its a good idea.
Honestly, reading some replies here, I think a periscope is a cute gift! LOL

rainbowstardrops · 26/12/2023 06:55

A periscope?!!! Do you have a fabulous view from your skylight?! 😂

As very funny as this thread is (and it's made me properly giggle!), it's so sad that some people have received utterly shit and thoughtless presents. What is wrong with some people?

LunaTheCat · 26/12/2023 06:38

This thread needs to be in classics!

Last year I got a sushi making set, and some jewellery i had asked for and before that a cocktail making set. Both in the cupboard, unused.

I also have a sushi making set.

And a dumpling making set.

Never to my knowledge expressed an interest in making either 😁

😂😂
I am so sorry OP… why are men so crap!

stepintochristmas1 · 26/12/2023 05:57

This thread has taught me that we need to be careful what we say in front of our husbands . they are like the genies who say your wish is my command . Don't say in his hearing you need a step ladder to clean the windows and don't say in his hearing that you have cold feet .
They will store this information and use it to buy you things that are not beautiful but practical . We just want beautiful things that give us pleasure ,not things to clean windows .

BurntOutGirl · 26/12/2023 05:23

Those that say "it's the thought that counts"....

That's exactly the issue there is no thought in any of these gifts.

I really hope that you all told the gift bringer how shit the present was.
