No petrol

I have to pick up Dd from school ( very close by) then Dh (15 minute drive) from work. His car is in the garage so has been using mine (our other one) he drove to work the last couple of mornings, when he got out of the car, I started to drive home and saw there was literally no petrol in the car, it was on one last bar that means it’s low but ok, that bar has gone now…does this mean zero petrol or enough for me to pick him up (15 min drive) stupidly he has the wallet with cards and cash in (one of those days)
Will I be able to make it to him?

I would make him sort out his own way home, walk, lift or public transport on this occasion and then when he gets back and you retrieve your card/wallet, add a payment method to your smartphone in case this happens again. That way you wont be stranded without a payment method in the future.

I don’t see why you’re even stressing about this. Let him make his own way home. This situation is entirely his doing x2

Can't you add a card to Apple Pay

Nicknacky · 30/11/2023 14:42

In that case I would be telling him he will need to find his own way home.

KingsleyBorder · 30/11/2023 14:42

Surely the inconvenience of him having to make his own way home pales into insignificance against the potential inconvenience of you being stranded on the road with a child in the car when it runs out of petrol?

Yikerswhatalife · 30/11/2023 14:41

He doesn’t take my wallet usually as has cards in his work bag, but he took it out to get a coffee on the way (cash) and put it back in his bag instead of giving it me/leaving it in the car 😡
Really pissed off he didn’t just put petrol in on the way this morning

I wouldn't think you had enough to drove for 15 minutes.

Maybe enough to get to a petrol station.

I wouldn't risk it.

Why don't you speak to the petrol place.

Once I filled up but had forgotten my wallet.

They took something to keep and I promised to go get the cash and come back.

Maybe if you give them something a watch or something and promise to come straight back with the cash they might let you fill up.

KingsleyBorder · 30/11/2023 14:40

Do you not have your cards loaded to your phone to use contactless payment?

Is it a big deal for him to get a bus or taxi?

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 30/11/2023 14:38

Why is there only one wallet with a means of payment in it (the wallet)?

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 30/11/2023 14:37

I have no idea. Some cars have a reserve, others dont. Plus, cars tend to use more fuel in winter. You might make it if you turn all heating and whatnot off, then again, you might not. It was highly unfair of the last person to use it (DH?) to leave it on totally empty, especially when you are doing him a favour and letting use your vehicle. I'd be telling him to make his own way home as you cant rely on the car to get you to him. If he complains, perhaps he'll be more considerate when the car runs low.

NotFastButFurious · 30/11/2023 14:37

you don't have any means of paying if your DH has the wallet?? Do the kids have a money box you could raid for a tenner? If the petrol warning light hasn't come on yet then you're probably ok.......
