My sister is a Sugar Baby

NC for this one but I promise I’ve been around for a while. Sorry it’s a long one too!

My younger DS (27) told me a few months ago that alongside her corporate job she is a sugar baby. When I questioned it (in a non judge way, just “are you safe” kind of way) she defended it with “it’s fine because I don’t have sex with any of them”.

she has both men and women who regularly buy her lavish gifts, send her money etc.

but this is where I am worried now:

1- she lets them have her actual address and meets up with them. Doesn’t have a PO Box or anything.

2- most of them she has met over social media and is quite quick to let them send her stuff, she meets up with them alone and with friends, but often asks them to send stuff before meeting in person. How does she know they are who they say they are?

3- the big one. she has now quit her job (good for her, she hated it) and moved back in with my parents. In January she is going travelling alone for six months predominantly funded by her main “sugar mama”. What if someone wants something more in return eventually?

I am worried about this going badly somewhere along the line. What if she comes across a weirdo and they have been given my parents address. Her and my parents will be at risk.

my parents don’t know about this they just know about someone who is her “wealthy friend”

I have tried to talk to her but have very little social media presence, and she seems to think I’m really out of touch. According her this is totally normal. It’s not is it?

I’m so worried, I have such a bad feeling about the whole thing.

Wow what a great update! So pleased to hear she’s spent her money wisely and gained some experiences travelling the world. Good for her!

Why is it wrong for men to pay her for sex but ok for them to pay her for no sex??

I don’t personally care whether she is or isn’t having sex with them, as that’s entirely her business. I’m just pointing out that she may not in fact be lying.

InterIgnis · 27/07/2024 08:09

It is entirely possible that she isn’t having sex with them. I’ve a friend that did this - the man in question got his sexual kicks from being used by her for his money, and by being treated like he was beneath her. Her being willing to have sex with him would have ruined the fantasy.

Anyway, she’s an adult capable of making her own choices.

Plantparent · 27/07/2024 07:25

I have good friends who have done this and there is NO WAY that she is not having sex with them! Men would not waste their time and money for nothing in return! I'm sorry to say this but your sister is a sex worker, however she may dress it up to you to save face.

Most sex workers go to great lengths to conceal their identity, so she is being incredibly naive to give them her address where your parents live. I would be concerned but ultimately she is an adult so there's nothing you can do.

Hi @MiniMinn ive just been reading this thread with interest! How is your sister getting on? Any updates? Hoping she is safe and well and enjoying her travels!

Hi! My sister just got back from her travels! She went to LA, San Fransisco and then had the opportunity to go to the Galapagos and finally Australia. She didn’t make it to Canada so maybe in the future. It all sounded amazing and I was quite jealous haha.

she has also made plans to save up and move to Australia eventually (her best friend already lives in Bondi) She is starting a masters degree alongside a new, less stress part time job and seems really happy.

and she got a PO Box so I’m happy too 😂

Again, why "confident"? You shouldn't assume because you 'think' something it's fact.

As someone else has said 'findom' is a thing for some people. No sex involved whatsoever.

That may or may not be the case here; we don't know.

Does findom not bring sexual satisfaction to the client?

I thought they were getting off on it.

You’re right, of course. I was simply using the vocabulary from the quoted post.

I don’t know about misplaced confidence, but I’m more confident it’s gifts + sex rather than just gifts for the hell of it.

A story that seems to sum up the state of the world in 2023 - and why it might be best for both parties not to meet IRL:

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 28/11/2023 13:51

This sort of thing has been going on for millennia and I doubt it will ever go away.

Recently read ‘Nana’ by Emile Zola, set in 1860s. Same old story.

porridgeisbae · 28/11/2023 13:15

Most of their work is helping those with £100 million+ decisions to get their heads straight and to be able to cope with the pressure of their jobs.
My understanding is that earnings vary between £250k and £400k each year without ever meeting clients in the flesh.

Accordingly, I don't find it difficult to imagine that someone with a hectic job, involving lots of travel would be happy to pay a thousand or two a month to have a sympathetic ear to call on, or to have phone-sex with. It might even make them more effective at their job, if they know that they need to generate five or six thousand extra in commission/bonus each month to keep the Sugar Baby in Manolos.

Being a therapist/effective coach is hardly the same as a random who happens to be pretty. Maybe the therapist does some phone work but probably it's mostly 50 min or so Zoom sessions, if they don't do in person sessions. I've had therapy via Zoom and it was ok.

RantyAnty · 28/11/2023 06:26

any sugar baby opportunities for mid 60s woman. I have plenty of jelly rolls to share.

So she's a sex worker?

There's findom which doesn't always include sex (but may)

Isn’t there some sort of fetish where people get a thrill from being taken advantage of financially? Perhaps this is what she is doing? Grasping at straws😂

Someone's probably answered this already, but yes, it's a subset of the kink D/S dynamic.

It's mostly women who are FinDom (financially dominant) over men who get a thrill from being financially submissive. Often the sub will hand complete control of their money to their Dom.

And no, sex doesn't have to be part of it.

SurprisedWithAHorse · 27/11/2023 22:10

No. Bodily autonomy - or even simple desperation, which is the reason for many people who do it - is one thing. Purchasing a human is another.

If sex work is sinful, it's on the punter.

I'd question who the punter is in this case - they are all disgusting.

I know a psychotherapist who works as a life coach. Absolutely amazing, resolved something that had been bothering me for over 30 years in a 20 minute telephone call.

Amazing how many people are stating as fact that OP's sister is a sex worker.

Some have "guaranteed" it. Others have said she "definitely has sex with them".

Where do MNers get their misplaced confidence from?

I don’t know about misplaced confidence, but I’m more confident it’s gifts + sex rather than just gifts for the hell of it.

How does one find a wealthy person who wants to give gifts? Asking for a friend

If you happen to find out can you let me know I also have an interested friend

FrasierReboot · 28/11/2023 00:18

I know someone who does this. She has 3 kids, split from her husband a few years ago and now makes mega money as a sugar baby.

🤣😂

BlueGrey1 · 27/11/2023 23:37

If they are funding her lifestyle she should use the money wisely to further her education and get a better job, being a sugar baby is not a career and won’t last forever, also friends and family are soon going to find out as there will be too many questions about how her lifestyle is being funded.
I doubt very much that she isn’t having sex with them as you don’t get something for nothing, this would essentially make her a prostitute, you can dress it up as ‘Sugar Baby’ but when you get money for sex it is prostitution

DonnaBanana · 27/11/2023 23:34

It's depressing we live in a time where people think others won't do nice things or give people things unless they get sex in return. This may be a dangerous world in many ways and sex obsessed to a great extent but we can be a bit more glass half full than that, surely?
