To feel like this about ex's lottery win?

My ex has always been lucky with wins on the lottery. A few hundred here, a thousand there.

I have been blocked for a long time but a few days back he unblocked me, we've exchanged pleasantries and he told me he's won the lottery. We're talking a life changing amount here. He can give up work and live off this money with lots to spare for a very luxury lifestyle. I have asked why he unblocked me to get back in contact and he avoids the question entirely. The thing is, I feel utterly bitter about his win. The things I could only dream about with that amount!

AIBU to feel this way and how do I get over it?

If it's a really big win you could make a few bob (and really piss him off) by selling the story to the press.

Ooooh yes! I would definitely do this.
Have often hoped one of the many Knobheads I have known would get famous, just so I could do this!
The Sun are always after a story 🤑
Obviously, sell to The Star if you are a Scouser though 😇

...and he may just be lying

RedToothBrush · 19/11/2023 14:56

He got the money.

But he lost you. And clearly is still hung up about it.

He unblocked you just to rub it in - what a knob.

You won the lottery when he disappeared from your life. Getting rid of this bellend was truly priceless.

This ⬆

Tell him so.

Say "Congratulations - how wonderful for you. I always think that I won life's lottery when we split up and I wasn't answerable to you any more."

THEN block.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/11/2023 14:50

Best to block him. He’s deliberately bragging to make you feel bad.

His having won doesn’t really make a difference to you - you wouldn’t be any better off if he hadn’t and it doesn’t make any difference to your chances of winning this or anything else in future.

MikeRafone · 19/11/2023 14:48

I'd take a lottery win over losing my ex any day!

and I doubt you'd be thinking enough about them to block and unblock and then let them know about your life - unless of course you still had a thing for them - which I bet OPs ex still has a thing for them, thus the ridiculous blocking, unblocking and telling them about their life

Mikimoto · 19/11/2023 14:47

She's the bitterest girl in the living room.
The bitterest girl in the living room.

Gettingbysomehow · 19/11/2023 14:39

I'd be absolutely furious if this happened given my ex sponged off me for 17 years. He wouldn't give me a penny either.

PrinceHaz · 19/11/2023 14:35

The nicest possible reason he contacted you is that you’ve been a big part of his life and he wanted to share his news with people. That said, it’s a bit mean to unblock you to give this news, knowing that it’s of no benefit to you to hear it.

InSpainTheRain · 19/11/2023 14:33

You need to block him and move on, but you know that. I'd be suspicious he actually has that many wins or the amounts he says. Perhaps he is just trying to make you regret the breakup or wants you to be jealous so he has "enhanced" winnings a bit!

Ohthatsfabulousdarling · 19/11/2023 12:41

He's only told you to wind you up.
Grey rock him, and block.

Yep, this

Mamato29192 · 19/11/2023 14:28

Block him. He's an arsehole

NotObligedToArgueWithStrangers · 19/11/2023 14:25

Smug bastard is just rubbing your nose in it.

Tinysoxxx · 19/11/2023 14:21

I would tell him that I don’t actually believe him and tell him to prove it by putting £10k into my bank account. With a laughing face emoji.

OkayScooby · 19/11/2023 14:21

You just sound unreasonable and bitter.
People win stuff, you chose not to re-visit the relationship and this is a consequence of that.

Actually, you sound unreasonable and bitter

Do people who won the lottery ever have a long lasting outcome from it?

I always read updates of people back right where they were or worse because they’ve frittered it all away.

You'll never read stories of people who haven't messed up and are back to square one, makes boring reading.

The parents of an old friend of mine from school won a life changing amount on the lottery, they wouldn't say how much, but judging by their house, cars they have, their boat and the fact they haven't had to work for years, they've had a cracking outcome.

Pedallleur · 19/11/2023 14:15

Life changing amount? 100s, 100s of thousands, millions? An expensive lifestyle, expensive gfs soon eat into it. You got rid of him. Money won't make him better, will just be the same. Congratulate, assume it's true and move on.

ghostestwiththemostest · 19/11/2023 14:11

Just get on and enjoy your own life. If you want to go to Spain, what's actually stopping you? It sounds like a bit of a pipe dream to me. I'm sure that the reality of living there being self sufficient would be a different experience to that envisaged. You will never realise your dream unless you actually work hard towards it. Have you even applied for a visa, looked at working remotely etc? Have you considered changing jobs to maybe live and work in the UK in the countryside to start off with?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 19/11/2023 14:08

He messaged you for a reason - to gloat and upset you. And he's achieved it - you're now bitter and regretful. He's your ex for a reason and many would pay a lot of money to be free of a man like this.

There are a couple of wise comments above about a brief "that's nice dear, now off you trot" response and then block.

MeMySonAnd1 · 19/11/2023 14:06

I have had similar but through merit rather than lottery.

I think that rather than bitter you should be laughing, the loser is still hurt enough trying to impress you despite all that money.

I think I had a fleeting moment when I asked myself what my life would be like if we had stayed together… and another fleeting moment that probably by now I would have killed myself.

if it is any consolation rest assured that you may still have a much better life than him. My ex is so disorganised with money that I am sure that despite his massive income he should have big debts, no peace and an unfaithful partner that is clearly just with him because he is the goose that lies golden eggs.

NameChange259 · 19/11/2023 14:03

All the money in the world and the best thing he can think to do is taunt his ex?

hes not over you - and he’s a total saddo!!

enjoy the moral high ground at least Flowers

block him and move on so he has to leave you alone from now on.

margotrose · 19/11/2023 14:01

You have no proof he's won anything. He's probably lonely and attention seeking.

Itsbritneybitch22 · 19/11/2023 13:59

I wouldn’t block I would just saw congratulations that’s so lucky I hope you enjoy it and then leave him to it.

He wouldn’t get the response he wanted if he was if he wanted to upset you.

wokbun · 19/11/2023 13:51

He's no one to you just block him
