To think encouraging people to send chocolate secretly is not a good idea?

So Cadbury do this thing where you can send chocolate anonymously to someone. AIBU to think this is not something to be encouraged? I'd be disturbed receiving unexpected chocolate to my home address.

Which posts are you laughing at? The ones where posters are sharing their experiences with stalkers? Yes hilarious....

Edited

No one's laughing at people being stalked, don't make up stuff that's no there

The silliness is in thinking that somehow Cadburys are doing something that is different to anyone being able to post anyone else anything on any day of the year

Surely no thinks this is an incitement to start stalking

StockpotSoup · 17/11/2023 14:08

I’d only be scared if someone sent me a Bounty. Then I’d know they really had it in for me.

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 17/11/2023 14:08

My god.... Do you start quivering when junk mail comes through your door?! How did you react back when free samples of products used to be put through everyone's doors?!

FlamingBlue · 17/11/2023 14:06

I wouldn't mind if it was edible but Cadbury's chocolate isn't since it has been stuffed with palm oil etc by the American owners.

LakeTiticaca · 17/11/2023 14:02

Someone sending chocolate is not likely to be a random stranger. It's more likely to be your mum, your sister, partner or a friend. Unless, as other pp's stated, you have an obsessive stalker, in which case yes it would be freaky
Please feel free to forward any unwanted choccy to my address 😉

It doesn't really bother me overmuch because I am already familiar with the concept of postal systems and gift giving.

MrsMarzetti · 17/11/2023 14:00

wokbun Would you freak out if interflora delivered flower, after all they have been doing this for half a century and we all find that normal and don't lose the plot.

Shopper727 · 17/11/2023 13:55

I was stalked years ago by an ex and I don’t think a bar of whole nut sent this way would’ve freaked me out tbh
the other stuff he did maybe but I’d assume it was a friend being kind. I love whole nut so I’d have eaten it either way.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/11/2023 13:52

Anyone’s welcome to send me bars of Fruit and Nut at any old time.🐷

MrsDrudge · 17/11/2023 13:52

I’d return to sender.

Cadbury’s is horrible since the company was bought by Mondelez.

In theory I suppose people could commit covert harassment via chocolate. But if they want to do that there are a million ways to do it already.

I wouldn’t have a problem with this!

'Covert harassment via chocolate'....I love this.

I'm sure it's only intended to be a harmless marketing campaign. But to be honest I actually would find this creepy. I have already have weird anonymous gifts turn up at my address, when I was being harassed by an ex I had to go to the police about. So maybe that gives me more perspective. Not everyones intentions are harmless and fun.

Of course an anonymous gift can be creepy.

But the point is that Cadbury's aren't the ones making this possible. Anyone can send an anonymous gift at any time, using any delivery service they like. To be honest, the Cadbury's service is a lot less open to abuse than simply posting a gift at the post office - if necessary it would be traceable through Cadbury's records and as it comes direct from Cadbury's, the recipient knows it hasn't been tampered with.

Why are people getting cross with Cadbury's and not, for example, Interflora? Or indeed Royal Mail?!

loulouljh · 17/11/2023 13:47

I would be delighted!

senua · 17/11/2023 13:47

OhpoorMe · 17/11/2023 13:02

But on that basis we should also stop the marketing campaigns for:

Interflora
Moonpig
Hotel Chocolat

Etc etc. All prompt you to send gifts, especially romantic ones

But those ads don't mention secrecy. In fact don't they assume that there will be a nice message with a name attached.
It's the secrecy I find disturbing. Especially in the adverts where they encourage children to keep secrets (though I've not seen one this year, have they dropped them?)

Santaiswashinghissleigh · 17/11/2023 13:46

I received a Pepperami in the post a while ago. As a vegetarian I knew it wasn't for me! Was funny and creepy also. Turned out ds had dared his mate to send him a treat.. Poor courier when I sent it away!! Cadbury def would have been eaten unquestioned..

ManateeFair · 17/11/2023 13:43

heathspeedwell · 17/11/2023 12:47

Stalkers can build their imaginary relationship up and up in their heads. And then get even more violent when they feel 'rejected'.

They can be only be 'rejected' if it's a gift the recipient knows is from them, though. One of the reasons some people like to send gifts anonymously is because they won't have to deal with rejection.

GirlOfTudor · 17/11/2023 13:42

Disturbed? Over a chocolate bar? If it was unexpected and not around an occasion, I'd assume it was a promotional item, not something sinister, but you obviously have a back story.

WickedSerious · 17/11/2023 13:21

I'd like to be harassed with anonymous bottles of gooseberry gin.

Sexlivesofthepotatomen · 17/11/2023 13:20

I'd be gutted if someone sent me Cadbury chocolate because it's utter shite these days

Night409 · 17/11/2023 13:12

tescocreditcard · 17/11/2023 12:29

YABU - it's chocolate, not a nail bomb.

🤣🤣🤣

mandydandy · 17/11/2023 13:09

I might send some to myself to justify getting more chocolate that I don't have to share with the kids! 😂

wizzbitt · 17/11/2023 13:09

I'd be well pissed off but only because I hate Cadbury's. Now if it were Lindt, Leonidas, Hotel Chocolat...

mandydandy · 17/11/2023 13:08

You have just reminded me about some chocolate I have in a secret stash! Thanks! It was delicious!
Anyone wants to send me some anonymous chocolate feel free!

Moveoverdarlin · 17/11/2023 13:07

Why would you be disturbed? It’s a bar of chocolate. I’d be disturbed if someone sent me a dog turd, or severed head or a Sympathy card. But if a massive bar of Dairy Milk landed on the doormat I would be delighted!

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 17/11/2023 13:06

erikbloodaxe · 17/11/2023 11:34

Would you freak out if someome knocked your door too.

Someone sent me one. I was touched someone had thought of me (and immediately ate it because I'd been wanting chocolate all day)

If someone unexpectedly knocks on my door, I don't freak out and I usually answer it (unless the doorbell camera shows me it's someone trying to talk politics), but I don't like it nearly as much as surprise chocolate.
