To think encouraging people to send chocolate secretly is not a good idea?

So Cadbury do this thing where you can send chocolate anonymously to someone. AIBU to think this is not something to be encouraged? I'd be disturbed receiving unexpected chocolate to my home address.

Why? Genuine question.

No-one seems to be able to give a sensible answer. If someone wished to stalk someone else they could do it in all sorts of ways, they don't need Cadbury to give them an excuse.

Anyone sends me chocolate, I eat it, with no more than a second's thought as to who it might be from.

Honestly if your 'stalker' had your address and wanted to send you something, they'd just do it without waiting for Cadbury campaign to send you some chocs 'to freak you out'.

I'm one of the people who doesn't always answer the door if I am not expecting anyone or any deliveries (they simply leave it at the door if it's a random delivery and no answer, which rarely happens) but even I think this is not likely to happen unless Cadbury is doing this for free and the stalker is so short of money, they'd be happy to use this method to restart their stalking via post.

Surely if your dog eating your post is a risk you get one of those post catcher basket mesh things that you can attach behind your letter box to put a metal barrier between dog and your HMRC tax rebate cheque or next door's aquabeads that got delivered to the wrong house???

We have a very tight hallway and a letter cage would stop the door from opening properly. Our dog has no interest in eating HMRC cheques or aquabeads, but he can smell food from 100 yards.

We’re home most of the time when the post comes as we’re WFH, but posting any unrequested food through someone’s door is always going to be a risk. When Graze boxes were all the rage we never ordered them as they weren’t safe for the dog, but my ex-MiL sent us one as a ‘treat’. Different dog at the time, but he loved his treat very much.

Dear Cadbury's,
Please send 200g of your finest arsenic caramel chocolate to this address in my gloved hand.

Yours,
Person paying online with an online payment method i.e. fully traceable.

PS. Why on earth does anyone on this thread think they're important or special enough to receive a long convoluted complicated death plot from someone?

Perhaps because they have a mental illness?

I really do wonder how people get through life! Of all the things to get your knickers in a twist, someone who knows your address and pays to send you a present is not one of them!
Even if Cadburys is not your favourite chocolate, how can it be creepy?
Get a bloody grip

But surely you understand some of us have mental illness and/or developmental disorders and we really struggle to get through life. Telling us to just 'get a grip' doesn't actually work.

Unex · 17/11/2023 20:04

YANBU
I'm normally pretty chilled, but I straight away didn't like the campaign AT ALL

It put me in mind of a stalker, who wanted to unsettle you. You'd have no proof it was him, but you'd know

There's recently been a women killed by her stalker near me, and it reminded me of that tbh

SisterMichaelsHabit · 17/11/2023 20:02

phoenixrosehere · 17/11/2023 18:38

I would find it strange and bin it automatically. The person obviously doesn’t know I’m not a chocolate fan and having listened to enough true crime including a story where a woman sent poisoned chocolates through the post to kill another woman. The woman who received it, shared it with her family, her and her sister who ate the most died and other family members were sick. Not trusting any anonymous food coming through the post.

I read 5 pages and I still don't know 'what could go wrong' if you receive a free chocolate bar!

Cadbury's is bloody lovely here in Ireland, I'd scarf it.

Sure I think "what could go wrong" is they'll be diverted from the massive salad they'd just convinced themselves to sniff.
Now if Taytos wanted to start a "send some crisps to poor hungry deprived Irish expats abroad anonymously" campaign they'd make a packet.

GalileoHumpkins · 17/11/2023 19:09

I would be slightly concerned that the postman had touched it with his sweat fingerprints though!

How do you think everything you buy in a supermarket gets on shelf ?

SisterMichaelsHabit · 17/11/2023 19:50

Letsnotargue · 17/11/2023 11:59

Just please make sure the recipient doesn’t have a dog! Even well wrapped, if I was out and a bar of chocolate landed on my doormat it would not last very long at all.

I should have added to my earlier post... when my DH saw the adverts he asked me to send him free chocolate if I ever got the chance.

I'd be delighted with proper free chocolate, Cadbury's not so much as it's palm oil filled shite.

There are many more creepy things that people might choose to do.

This. I'm not a fan of the palm oil.

Verv · 17/11/2023 19:17

You’re going to shit when you find out about December and its potential for unsolicited Christmas Cards.

Isometimeswonder · 17/11/2023 19:17

I think you need your put the True Crime down for a while. 😂😂😂😂

Too good to do so. 😉

Besides, as I said before I am not a fan of chocolate so a ridiculous and wasted gift for me. I think it’s way overrated and always have.

Goneroundthetwist · 17/11/2023 12:47

I imagine people with dogs won’t be impressed at getting a secret delivery of chocolate through their door.

Some of us live in far off lands, where we have actual mailboxes on the street, so Cadbury can bring it on here as far as I'm concerned (not that I can think of a single person who would have chocolate sent to me, sadly).

@Letsnotargue

the first reasonable point!!

A strong cardboard box would NOT stop my friends lab!! He destroys the toys advertised as non destructible!!!

hopefully you can ask for it to be left outside!!
