To think encouraging people to send chocolate secretly is not a good idea?

So Cadbury do this thing where you can send chocolate anonymously to someone. AIBU to think this is not something to be encouraged? I'd be disturbed receiving unexpected chocolate to my home address.

I really don't hate anyone enough to inflict Cadbury chocolate on them! I certainly wouldn't send it to anyone I liked!

BoredDave · 07/11/2025 22:38

What could go wrong - let me see - random mentalist sees stalking as romantic and already has a conviction for stalking, feels validated by advert that sending unwanted gifts is in fact romantic and not stalking, so starts sending chololate- person he stalked kills themselves because thry can np longer deal with more harrassment on top of the 5 years it took to get the injunction in the first place. If you validate stalking behaviour then it continues. Anonymous chocolate is not cute or romantic, it is stalking. Based on real life experience of that exact kind of behaviour. Yes the woman, my mother, did kill herself.

TheEyesOfLucyJordon · 19/11/2023 20:52

I do. I'm a woman and have zero interest in your knickers 😳

I wouldn't eat it unless I knew where it had come from OP!

It comes direct from Cadbury.

probably arrogant

Nice way to talk about a multiple rape victim, that. I wasn't humble-bragging about men fancying me, to be utterly clear here. I was talking about male sexual entitlement and male violence.

Except I didn’t know you were a multiple rape victim until after…
I take back arrogant and apologise for any offence.
I still wonder whether you recognise your experience is atypical and in conjunction with your ASC leads you to have fears which are not shared by most people. I’m aware a lot of men are dangerous, I grew up in the 70s and 80s when such seedy behaviour was normalised. I haven’t experienced the extent of issues you have. That’s my luck, sure, but I think my experience is probably more typical. Even if it’s not, it doesn’t make the odd bar of Cadbury’s creepy or dangerous, and it certainly doesn’t make people who do speak to others ‘fucking weirdos’. I think that’s a bit more insulting than my ‘probably arrogant’, don’t you?

Cantanna · 19/11/2023 20:20

I'd think they were trying to finish me off ..I'm diabetic 😂😂

junbean · 19/11/2023 20:13

It would be shipped from the company, so it's like like an unlabeled brown box out of nowhere. It's meant to be fun. There's so much evil in the world already, no need to invent more that isn't there.

Jesus Christ what a depressing (and probably arrogant) mindset!
Normal people say hi to others all the time and pass the time of day. Walking home last night through the high winds and a random bloke at a bus stop commented on the power of the wind. Didn’t occur to me he was at all interested in my knickers - he was just making conversation! I didn’t find it all creepy and replied as I walked past!

But surely you can see not everyone is like your rapist? Or like you? You have particular reasons not to want to engage with people. Doesn’t make those who don’t have your issues ‘fucking weirdos’ for doing it.

My experience of men is that far too many are like my rapists (please note the pluralisation). The man who put his hand on my arse on the bus, the two men behind us loudly talking about how they would ask my mother and I for blowjobs as we were walking down the street, the three men who cat-called me from the bus stop. That's just this year.

Let's apply a little logic to this problem by asking the cartesian questions. There's a strange man walking towards me at the train station. Should I say hi to him?

What will happen if I do? He might interpret it as flirtatious. He might misinterpret my acknowledgement of his presence as desire to have a conversation. There are men out there, often autistic or learning disabled, who interpret any interest or kindness from a woman as sexual interest. I recently had to leave a technology museum I was very interested in because one of the volunteers decided that me asking him questions was sexual interest, and because he's volunteer staff I can never go back because he'll be there. The clue, before anyone accuses me of oversensitivity, was when he told me that he liked female visitors coming because one of them might want to date him, whilst following me from exhibit to exhibit.
What will happen if I don’t? Probably NOTHING. And if anything does happen, any witnesses will testify that I didn't invite it.
What won’t happen if I do? NOTHING.
What won’t happen if I don’t? He definitely won't leave me alone.

Bearing in mind that 80% of rape victims know their attacker, why on earth would any woman increase her statistical risk of rape by increasing the number of men she knows through befriending random men?

DiscoBeat · 19/11/2023 19:52

I don't think it's creepy. Most people are good!
But the thing about putting chocolate through the door is it could be found by a dog and therefore be pretty disastrous. I know ours would eat the whole lot if he found it. We have a mail box on our gate instead so no issues with that here (and no chocolate, boo!)

What kind of fucking weirdo doesn't talk to people?

Au autistic woman who has been raped twice, sexually assaulted on top of that, has lost count of the sexual harassments, and is sick of being treated like meat by men. So I don't speak to them, I don't smile at them, I try not to even make eye contact, and I try to walk tall and make myself look bigger and give "I will break your nose if you look at me wrong" vibes. When I drop my guard and stop doing this, I can't walk home from the corner shop without men shouting obscenities at me.

Whilst that is terrible for you you must know it's absolutely not normal. I've lived iin many different places over the years and have never heard anyone shout obscenities at any else in the street. Its normal for most people to talk to people that they don't know, I can't imagine how you'd live a live otherwise

In my experience, strangers saying hi are men trying to get into my knickers. So yeah, I do tend to freak out about that.

What kind of fucking weirdo goes around talking to randoms in public anyway?

They are the first as far as I know to have an advertising campaign promoting it

Interflora’s whole business is an advertising campaign promoting it…

With all those companies, the sender's name is on the little card with the package.

Only if you ask for it to be. It’s allowed to send anonymously. As it is from Amazon (as my friend has this very week with some joke presents).

cardibach · 19/11/2023 19:12

I don't think Valentine's cards should be anonymous either

This is batshit. I’m not even going to try to explain why, because if you can’t see it…

saveforthat · 19/11/2023 18:31

I'm sorry for your experiences which of course will make you guarded but don't come on here calling people who interact normally and politely with strangers "fucking weirdos".

Forging the Cadbury packaging: easier or harder than forging someone else's handwriting? It makes another option available and gives a plausible excuse for the chocolate turning up at a time other than the recipient's birthday.

Why would you handwrite it?
Type, print out and stick it on front.

I'm pretty good at imitating handwriting though. If I had an example in front of me then I could do it as easy as anything. Wouldn't take time.
