Tesco fricking Club Card / two tier pricing

AIBU to hate Tesco Clubcard App and the two tier pricing in store. It rely annoys me on principle that Tesco actively sets out to overcharge customers in store if they haven't got the app handy or the card, in which case, massive palaver at the tills. They do this so they can scrape your personal data. It just puts me off shopping there TBH.

Moan over. I'm in Tesco's car park as a I write as I've flounced out in outrage!

Since I got rid of my Clubcard and Nectar card I've hardly had any junk mail so we know what they do with the data they get!!

I don't get any junk mail at all and I have a clubcard and a nectar card 🤷🏻‍♀️

This.

You're getting junk mail because you forgot to check the box to say you didn't want to hear from "their trusted partners".

dottiedodah · 31/10/2023 11:56

I shop at Sainsburys . I am not the most organised person ,but have my Nectar Card on me all the time .No bother !Also Tesco as well . Nice surprise when bill is lower surely?

Upwiththelark76 · 31/10/2023 11:56

Don’t do tescos anymore as I am the same with the club card . Sainsburys going the same way . Morrisons is a No as it’s ridiculously expensive . It’s lidle for me and Asda

I don't mind companies like Tesco, Sainsburys and Boots knowing my purchasing habits but accept that 2 tier pricing is problematic for some people like teenagers who can't get a meal deal discount because they are too young to register a loyalty card. Supermarket pricing has always been about smoke and mirrors imo. Some items fluctuate in price so often that you lose sight of what a reasonable price for the item is.

Just give your teenagers access to your Clubcard. My kids have my Tesco Clubcard saved in their phone wallet.

I hate having to take my phone shopping with me
But unfortunately the Clubcard+ discount is only on the app.
Bit annoying

This is even odder! Why would you not have your phone with you? It's the whole point of a mobile phone.

FrenchandSaunders · 31/10/2023 11:33

Surely the days of rummaging around the bottom of a crusty handbag looking for loyalty cards has passed. The vast majority of us have these things on our phones, it couldn't be easier or quicker!

And refuse cashback unless you buy something, which at the customer service desk where they sell the tokens leaves you with a choice of vapes or lotto tickets . No thanks

They aren't an ATM... why should they spend money on a card transaction just for you to get some cash? Fyi you can put any purchase through the customer service desk - they have tills. Don't turn up with a full trolley, but a handful of items is fine.

I totally agree, and I really feel for some older or vulnerable people who may struggle with remembering their card or examining the prices

If they can remember their purse with their money in, then I’m sure they can remember the card that’s in their purse.

Surely thats on the person who hasnt bothered to get themselves ready before they get to the check out??

Yes of course but we're all human! Sometimes people don't have it to hand, mine fell out of phone wallet for example. Anyway my point was that the scanning isn't the palaver that everyone is making out the OP said

I don't do loyalty cards of any description on principle. I'm sick of being tracked and monitored the whole time, everywhere I go.

Most of the time I don't use a smartphone either.

Fabulous response - good for you!

Letsgetouttahere2023 · 31/10/2023 11:46

I agree OP

I also hate that if you forget a coin for a trolley they want you to buy a token for £3 and non refundable if you return thr token at the end. And refuse cashback unless you buy something, which at the customer service desk where they sell the tokens leaves you with a choice of vapes or lotto tickets . No thanks

Also walked out of there the other day for this reason, needed a trolley for a massive shop. Went to sainsbury instead.

Don't think I'll go back to tesco until this changes

PersephonePomegranate23 · 31/10/2023 11:45

And the data collection is just so they can tailor their offers to things you actually buy. They sell more, you get a discounted rate - I don't see the problem.

She said if you don't have it handy, it causes a palaver! My local Tesco is very good, the staff just get another card and scan it so you still get the cheaper price.

Surely thats on the person who hasnt bothered to get themselves ready before they get to the check out??

WearyAuldWumman · 31/10/2023 11:44

I no longer shop at Tesco's. I can't be arsed with yet another loyalty card and I refuse to be ripped off.

Gee19 · 31/10/2023 11:43

RudsyFarmer · 31/10/2023 09:19

I agree, however I do love the price jumping down at the end.

I used to like this but I think it hardly goes down now, even after a big shop.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 31/10/2023 11:43

I don't have a choice but to shop at Tesco really. It is the only supermarket close to me. I could walk a lot further to Sainsburys but who has the time.

I always keep my Clubcard in my purse and I like the bargains, some of them are true bargains. I don't really care that they can see my shopping habits.

PersephonePomegranate23 · 31/10/2023 11:42

Blimey, if scanning a card at a till is what passes for 'stress', I'll swap with you!

You know you're going to the store, you have the card handy, same as your debit card, surely?

DeireadhFomhair · 31/10/2023 11:42

I love Club Card prices ❤️

LeviOsaNotLeviosaa · 31/10/2023 11:38

I wish my life was banal enough to give a single fuck about whether I get cheaper prices for having a loyalty card or not.

You wish you had to worry about money?

shockwaze · 31/10/2023 11:40

They're paying you for the data, seems fair to me

Pipistrellus · 31/10/2023 11:39

I don't usually bother with it if I don't need it for clubcard prices so their data on me is going to be skewed.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 31/10/2023 11:37

Yes but it's not just Tesco now - really annoys me

DragonFly98 · 31/10/2023 11:37

fedupwithbeinghot · 31/10/2023 09:23

the card is kept in my phone "wallet" and the till person always asks if you have it with you. I don't find it too complicated and I love the discounts.

Edited

They are not discounts club card prices are the same as regular prices in Asda/Morrisons.
