My friend has his own shop where everything is hand made , he makes his own products and stocks hand made products for others as a collective,

He's just text me in a panic , a little old lady came in and bought these .....

He's now worrying in case it's the grandsons xmas present

I think xmas day could be interesting in one house in the north of England 😂🙈

To think my friend is going to hell

she was an archetypal little old lady , why the snottiness? I talking about a woman in her 80 s not a woman in her 50s ! A stereotypical "granny. "You know like that bloke puts a wig on and pretends to be in mrs browns boys when it's apparently funny

She might be into rimming yes. In fact I'm sure that must be why she bought them .

My mistake .

The snottiness might be because we have members in their 70s and 80s who would have heard of that joke before some of us were even born?

My "little old lady" Mum (also a granny) bought a rubber stamp that read "bullshit" so she could amuse herself by stamping it on nonsense paperwork.

Hahaha I laughed out loud at this! That's going in my mum's (also elderly & also a grandmother) stocking!

Kingkum86 · 27/10/2023 17:23

It depends on what they did.

rockinginarockingchair · 27/10/2023 17:23

My ex-neighbour at the time was 77 and she had more dates than me.
She even went clubbing with her gay male friends.
Then out every weekend to the pubs she has a good time all the time.
I still talk to her and she still swinging living life to the full.
She said to me once shes living the life she couldent live before.
Married for decades and she hated it divorce came she said she was reborn.
Shes so funny but so happy.
Not all old people spend their time knitting.

limitedperiodonly · 27/10/2023 17:23

"It was meant to be a lighthearted thread" = the default position of everyone whose crap joke goes wrong.

What on earth do some people think little old ladies in their 80s and even long dead got up to when they were young?

LeonBlack · 27/10/2023 17:21

My MiL is in her 80s and would realise that it’s an attempt at humour.

She’s not a ‘little old lady’ and would resent that tiresome description.

OldTinHat · 27/10/2023 17:21

What is his shop and can you buy online?! That's all I want to know!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/10/2023 17:21

If she’s n her80s then she could realistically have a grandson in his late teens/early 20s ( or older) in a same sex relationship…….and he might’ve discussed things with her that he couldn’t with his parents?

Could be a Bad Taste Secret Santa
Or yes maybe she just saw the picture

Sharontheodopolodous · 27/10/2023 17:21

When I met dp he warned me not to mention sex, private body parts or anything rude to his parents as they where 'prudish'

100% fair enough-i come from a family who are the the exact opposite

8 years on,I've talked about sex, private body parts and rude stuff with them both (well, until we lost fil)

It turned out they'd just never thought to talk to him about this stuff-he thought they didn't know about things like sex (god knows how he thought he and his sister came along) and that they are more than happy to chat in the right circumstances-they where/are not in any way prudish (looking at you late, darling fil and dear mil is very happy to talk about 'womens problems' with me) and where fully aware of the more 'outlandish' sex acts consenting adults get up to

Neither fainted at a sex act on the tv or seeing a bra strap on a woman

The oldies can teach us some stuff about life/sex-we didn't invent it

This does remind me of the time I mentioned to my mother I needed some gloves for then 5 year old dd

My mother went out and bought some-showed the whole family-nobody noticed that the 'pretty flowers' on them was a massive cannabis leaf

She didn't get to wear them

My husband (79) and I (74) often laugh about what young people would think if they could hear our conversations when we are at home alone. You have to remember that "little old lady" was probably a teenager in the sixties. It's unlikely she's as innocent and naive as she looks

This.

capabilityfrowns · 27/10/2023 16:23

He doesn't think she read them

He's now wracked with guilt thinking he should have explained the joke .....

How old was the little old lady who couldn't read that? Or see the childish humour in it

mapleriver · 27/10/2023 17:19

Your post made me giggle and scrolling through the rest of the thread made me miserable🙃

Holly60 · 27/10/2023 17:18

Hilarious, that should read 😂

My friend feels guilty because he feels like he should have explained the joke which suggested she didn't get it .

I really wish he had. And I wish I'd been there. This is harious!

On a complete aside, those socks don't look handmade. He should possibly be worried about trade descriptions if he claims everything is handmade.

It's a collective so not EVERYTHING is handmade and nor is it advertised as such so again, don't worry .

My Mum bought a headscarf when she had cancer, proudly wore it all round town until she saw my sister who said, Mum, do know that the print is canabis leaf? My Mum found this hilarious, had no idea but it didn't stop her wearing it. She was a lovely mischievous woman.

That’s so lovely!
Your Mum might have thought they were maple ( Acer) leaves.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 27/10/2023 17:14

Maybe it was that poster who said you could see people's anus in scunch bum leggings? Maybe she brought it for her teenage DGD 🤣

SuperNewMe · 27/10/2023 17:13

@capabilityfrowns

Ok it was meant to be a lighthearted thread not a lesson on ageism . He didn't say anything and she bought them so all is well

I read your post as lighthearted bit of fun for Friday night, dunno why you're getting so much grief, some posters must have seen their arses as the saying goes lol see what I did there 😁

If she's in her 80s then her grandson will probably be an adult and find this hilarious.

ManchesterLu · 27/10/2023 17:11

I mean, this may shock you, but even the elderly know what an anus is..

MargaretThursday · 27/10/2023 17:10

Tbf I am totally confident that my parents (in their 70s) would not have considered it to be anything other than a nice picture of a planet. If they'd noticed the hyphen they'd have assumed it was an error.
So it's certainly possible that the lady bought it in innocence. I can also say that if my dc got given it by my parents, that they'd thank them nicely, and not mention it until later when they'd have had a little giggle.

I have occasionally had to explain something to my parents I'd rather not, but I'd leave that one without any guilt at all.

She might be into rimming yes.

Surely not.
Anything other than missionary position sex probably wasn't invented until you came of age, I expect.

How on earth would he know she didn't get it? She was hardly likely to start sniggering about it with the guy selling them to her 😵‍💫
