My friend has his own shop where everything is hand made , he makes his own products and stocks hand made products for others as a collective,

He's just text me in a panic , a little old lady came in and bought these .....

He's now worrying in case it's the grandsons xmas present

I think xmas day could be interesting in one house in the north of England 😂🙈

My mum in her 80s to add, would not get it, if she did she wouldn’t buy them. She would be offended. She absolutely would buy them for a space loving kid in totally innocence. Maybe it’s her catholic upbringing.

Mamma2017 · 27/10/2023 18:28

Well it made me chuckle OP. A lot of the threads on here are pretty dark and heavy so this was a bit of light humour.
Yeh it probably was stereotyping the older generation a little which stems from the way we don’t necessarily expect the dirty sense of humour-it’s not a societal norm you usually see in that generation (in general) so there’s an assumption she didn’t notice the words and could be embarrassed when she realises she’s given this as a gift to family. You weren’t being nasty or derogatory OP I don’t think you deserve all the flack you’re getting!

BalloonSalesperson · 27/10/2023 18:27

My grandmother would have understood that when she was in her eighties

She probably first heard it 70 years ago at least. So yeah.
We used to sit round the telly as kids watching Sky At Night waiting for Patrick Moore to say Uranus and we fell about laughing. Parents eyerolled and sighed.

Then he started pronouncing it Oo-ranus. Which was very disappointing.
Fortunately, this thread has proved it hasn't totally caught on.

Guesswho88 · 27/10/2023 18:26

Oh my lord! 😂😂

TerfTalking · 27/10/2023 18:26

Oh OP, she probably didn’t get it, they were likely a gift for a teenage grandchild who likes space and planets, but tell him not to worry, the rest of the family will have a scream on Christmas Day.

we would.

my MILs gifts have been the highlight of our Christmas Day for years.

Peachonthebeach · 27/10/2023 18:25

Do you really think a woman has lived 80 years on the planet without hearing an anus joke or two? In her 80s and she’s out perusing cool little shops, remembering birthdays yet she’s forgotten how to read ? 🤔
Do you think the queen would have understood an anus joke in her later years?

neilyoungismyhero · 27/10/2023 18:23

Wisterical · 27/10/2023 17:36

OP, why do you think that stereotyping people by age is less ignorant than by sex or ethnicity? Or are you cool with those -isms too?

Good god..get a grip

Brefugee · 27/10/2023 18:22

capabilityfrowns · 27/10/2023 16:23

He doesn't think she read them

He's now wracked with guilt thinking he should have explained the joke .....

it's kind of ageist to think little old ladies (my mum is mid 80s. She was a flower child etc) can't understand purile smutty jokes?

if he feels that bad about the things he sells he ought to rethink his stock?

Thedm · 27/10/2023 18:20

I have a friend who makes beautifully embroidered items; pillows, display things, socks, whatever. But in the centre of the really lovely, some twee designs were some great words like Bawbag etc. They were very popular in the little studio I owned where I sold my jewellery but also other independent designer’s work.
I was being interviewed for the news in my studio, and they wanted the “shop” area as the backdrop and the Bawbag embroidered pillow was in the centre of the shot! They had to come back and film the segment again 😂😂

DM, who I never heard swear in her entire life, bought a badge for DS aged 4 that said 'For fox sake ban hunting' - she hadn't got her glasses when she bought it and said 'it has a lovely picture of a fox on it so I thought he'd like it'. Not sure she ever got it.

MaggieBsBoat · 27/10/2023 18:16

Being a senior citizen doesn’t automatically make you either a simpleton or unaware of jokes.
Jesus bloody wept.
Your friend really needs to mix with a wider range of people!! And you @capabilityfrowns need to check your ageism.

ThreeRingCircus · 27/10/2023 18:15

Ahh this thread made me smile. I hope she didn't read them properly so didn't get the joke and a grandson somewhere has a funny story to tell in years to come.

Gymnopedie · 27/10/2023 18:15

When I was 13, so my mother would have been 39, 'Santa' brought me a Playboy bunny apron. I swear mum just thought it was an apron with a rabbit on it and I never disillusioned her.

(No I didn't believe in Santa when I was 13, but younger sibs did so Santa brought things for all of us.)

ItsSoStimulatingBeingYourHat · 27/10/2023 18:13

Haha! I hope she bought them for her husband/Partner/fwb!

My mum bought me this badge on a trip away because apparently it was all me (not that she’s biased! 😉)
I asked if she meant that? She said yes of course!
”But it says cunt, mum!”
😂
She hadn’t even noticed and she’s a bit of a sweary grandma!

Oh no OP you said something about someone being old.

Now you’re going to Mumsnet hell! 🤣🤣🤣

I class myself as old . I'm in my 50s . Old / young is just a description for me , I didn't realise you can't use the term old . Some of my clothes are old. My dogs old . So I didn't know it was an "ist" .

I've said I'm sorry.

If I ever need to deflate my mood I'll know where to come . I'm just a little lady myself you see , I need to drink the koolaid. I'm sorry if I caused offence . It was supposed to be funny , the socks themselves aren't funny , pout my friend's description of how it happened and his subsequent giult ridden text was

Again I apologise . I'm going to leave the thread now and hide it because if I wasn't depressed before , I am now ,

Bless you op, maybe get this deleted and post again but just say that a lady purchased them but your friend is pretty sure that she didn’t read the text?

DisforDarkChocolate · 27/10/2023 18:06

We still laugh at the 3.5 inch floppy jock socks my MIL bought her son, as you can tell it was a while ago.

Socks!!!
I see that now, I originally thought it was a beach towel 😳

PickAChew · 27/10/2023 18:02

In that case, her grandson, if there is one, could well be an adult.

Yeah I'm sure he'll appreciate that his granny likes his anus , !

My Mum bought a headscarf when she had cancer, proudly wore it all round town until she saw my sister who said, Mum, do know that the print is canabis leaf? My Mum found this hilarious, had no idea but it didn't stop her wearing it. She was a lovely mischievous woman.

My mom bought a brooch of a cannabis leaf, and was wearing it quite proudly until I told her what it was. She thought it was a maple leaf.

I mean, I don't expect her to be a botanist, but Jesus Christ, she hit young adulthood in the 1960s.

capabilityfrowns · 27/10/2023 18:00

Maybe their for her husband and she's into rimming

OP posts:
Dazedandmore · 27/10/2023 18:00

Isn't this socks? If yes who cares? If it's a scarf then it will be a bit tricky but I'm sure if it's for a child the parents will be able to handle it.

It's not his job to explain the joke I think so he should chill.

capabilityfrowns · 27/10/2023 17:58

Yes it's the like "UR anus " bit that makes it quite niche I feel
