My friend has his own shop where everything is hand made , he makes his own products and stocks hand made products for others as a collective,

He's just text me in a panic , a little old lady came in and bought these .....

He's now worrying in case it's the grandsons xmas present

I think xmas day could be interesting in one house in the north of England 😂🙈

@EarringsandLipstick bore off 😉

Aren't you lovely.

EarringsandLipstick · 27/10/2023 19:25

but its quite unlikely that an older female would want to make an anus joke to someone,

Why? Why is it any more likely than another member of the population?

That's ageism right there.

porridgeisbae · 27/10/2023 19:25

I can totally see that someone might exist who would buy this by mistake. And no matter how much we might want to deny it, people's cognitive function can decline with age- it comes to us all to an extent.

Some people aren't worldly either. My mum answered a personal ad once for a bloke 'looking for a dominant woman.' She thought it meant the guy was after a woman with a strong personality or something. He had to explain to her that that wasn't quite what he had in mind. Grin

adjacenttoquiteafewspheres · 27/10/2023 19:24

Why's he texting in a panic and having a cold sweat, I don't get it?

Raisinganiguana · 27/10/2023 19:23

I know you feel oh so funny and your friend is probably dining out on this (and I doubt it’s actually true) but I do think it’s gross. Chortling that a woman in her 70’s doesn’t know what an anus is and bought it innocently for her grandson who likes planets? This kind of stupid horseshit is why certain industries have no older people working. As soon as they head towards 60 they’re just perceived as ‘doddery’ and past it.

Yes exactly.

Masking as humour, is propagating societal myths about older people, women in particular.

Quietisgood · 27/10/2023 19:24

Mn is fucking mental at times! Sorry OP that you are getting such a hard time for what is obviously a lighthearted post ; do people seriously not understand that this genuinely could just be a humorous and very inappropriate error on the customers part- yes, of course older people understand sex and innuendo, but its quite unlikely that an older female would want to make an anus joke to someone, much more likely that she just saw the planet and thought they'd be great for the space-loving grandchild without properly reading?!! I don't think it's ageist to say that my nan's eyesight is not as sharp in her 80s, and she's got form for this sort of thing. She once gave someone in the family a beach towel that read something like "fancy a shag?" She hadn't even noticed the lettering, she just thought they would like the colours and pattern! We all thought it was funny! We didn't tell my nan, as she would have been mortified, as it was inappropriate as a gift to a relative, not because she doesn't know now what it means🙄
and PPs reporting the post to admin, and talking about trading standards getting involved as the socks are not homemade -ffs, unbelievable! lighten up! 😂

EarringsandLipstick · 27/10/2023 19:23

@Moominy

Trouble is, ageist comments aren't funny. Pointing that out doesn't make someone a 'bore'.

When I was maybe 7 my mum bought me a keyring in the shape of a penis wearing sunglasses. She had no idea, although for the life of me I can't work out how she thought it was "just a cool surfer!". She would have been about 40 at the time though, so can't blame her elderlyness.

So someone not finding it funny is a 'bore'?

Nice.

Yes, in my opinion. I do think it's a bit sad to over analyse a clearly light hearted post.

Sorry if that offends you too.

God that's really funny 🥱

EarringsandLipstick · 27/10/2023 19:14

Pretty much. I mean that was kind of obvious..

So it clearly wasn't obvious to you that people can have different senses of humour, but someone pointing out clearly ageist views, is not being 'a bore' just because you decide so.

HTH

Actually reading the replies from people with a stick up their ur-anus is funnier than the story .

I'm off out soon. Going to to drown my sorrows in alcohol .

who can conceive of a 90 year old woman

Who decided she was 90?

I thought your post was very amusing OP. Ignore the bores!

Rosesandstars · 27/10/2023 19:05

Um am I the only one person to reply who can conceive of a 90 year old woman not noticing that it says ur-anus rather than Uranus?

Apparently yes you are ! She was very elderly and bought nothing else cheeky . Hence my friends guilt . I found it quite funny but I sympathised with him as he is a nice person and I think it rather caught him off guard .

Is there an "ist" for people lacking any sense of humour ?

Or am I being humour ist.

🙄

Hippee · 27/10/2023 19:09

My DM bought my SIL a mug for Christmas, which said "Lady Gardener". I didn't have the heart to explain it to her.

I for one took this thread as light hearted. Loving your sense of humour op.

It's not humorous though. Laughing at older women, and making sweeping assumptions, tends not to be.

Nor is OP's faux apologies and hand-wringing.
