My friend has his own shop where everything is hand made , he makes his own products and stocks hand made products for others as a collective,

He's just text me in a panic , a little old lady came in and bought these .....

He's now worrying in case it's the grandsons xmas present

I think xmas day could be interesting in one house in the north of England 😂🙈

To think my friend is going to hell

My "little old lady" Mum (also a granny) bought a rubber stamp that read "bullshit" so she could amuse herself by stamping it on nonsense paperwork.

I want one so I can send the ridiculous bills and paperwork I receive from Ovo Energy back to them

I spent 18months trying to come to terms with their billing and to this day havent a clue how they work out their bills or why they change statements

Oooft reminds me of the time my daughter ate a pack of sugar free polos, I had to cancel my evening plans .

Didn't make that mistake again.

Yes, usually stuffed full of sorbitol, which has a name that is hiding in plain sight there in the ingredients list, just waiting to give you that sore butt 'ole Grin

That stamp is so going on my Christmas List.

Now you are just being mean to Uranus

Well I have just eaten three pounds of sugar-free gummy bears...

Thanks for that website @capabilityfrowns it looks fab for Christmas shopping. Also thanks for the smile. When I first became a vegetarian as a teen (many years ago) my much younger brother gave me a badge (innocently, or so it seemed) that said 'save a cow, eat a vegetarian'. Still makes me laugh!

we will all be old one day
unless
well I'd rather old than the alternative
And no it's not humourless to be sick of the casual ageism on here.
You clearly cannot tolerate being pulled up on your shitty attitude.
Unsurprising really

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 27/10/2023 20:23

Um am I the only one person to reply who can conceive of a 90 year old woman not noticing that it says ur-anus rather than Uranus?

There's not really any need to separate it to 'ur-anus' - the joke is obvious to everybody without that.

It's not even like it's one of the more popular planets that attracts the fans, such as your Marses, your Venuses or your Saturns; the only single thing it has going for it, that anybody cares about, is that it has a funny rude name.

Now you are just being mean to Uranus Sad

SuperNewMe · 28/10/2023 11:37

This place has become the saddest most humourless place on the internet

Big lighthearted klaxon at the beginning of the thread needed 😁
Yeah, at one time this thread would have been treated as a little laugh /lighthearted, not sure why you've attracted so much lip pursing and moaning; maybe some are projecting their own ageing issues?

Haffiana · 28/10/2023 11:20

This thread should go into Classics for classic, passive-aggressive hole digging.

Dontcallmescarface · 28/10/2023 09:07

My (then), 76 year old mum bought something similar for my (then)81 year old dad for his birthday. They both found it hilarious as did we.

Canyousewcushions · 28/10/2023 08:44

My nan would so very have picked up something like this (intentionally!!).

One if her proud possessions was a singing gyrating santa christmas decoration, only it had a very unfortunate and obvious bulge at the front, just below the waist. She got great pleasure showing it off to her teenage grandchildren and it wasn't until I grew up that I twigged she absolutely knew and was no doubt loving our mortified responses 🤣 she really just seem like an innocent little old lady though if you didn't know her!!

She was the queen of ridiculous presents 🤣

Moonwatcher1234 · 28/10/2023 08:35

I think you and your friend think you’re a lot funnier than you really are. But as long as you’re happy, it’s fine. Why get so het up by these posts.

FarmGirl78 · 28/10/2023 08:34

RubyBoozeDay · 28/10/2023 06:59

The saddest thing is that you are still trying to defend your unfunny ageist anecdote at nearly 3am.

Yep. I think OP needs to learn when to stop digging.

KimberleyClark · 28/10/2023 08:31

Perhaps she has a relative really into astronomy.

adjacenttoquiteafewspheres · 27/10/2023 19:24

Why's he texting in a panic and having a cold sweat, I don't get it?

I wondered that. I suppose he waited till the payment went through then panicked

😏

capabilityfrowns · 27/10/2023 16:43

she was an archetypal little old lady , why the snottiness? I talking about a woman in her 80 s not a woman in her 50s ! A stereotypical "granny. "You know like that bloke puts a wig on and pretends to be in mrs browns boys when it's apparently funny

She might be into rimming yes. In fact I'm sure that must be why she bought them .

My mistake .

Oh get of your high horse. People of all ages can find something funny without being 'into' it.

80 year olds are still allowed to have sense of humours.

This place has become the saddest most humourless place on the internet .

Unfortunately I agree. There's a vocal minority that instead of just scrolling on by feel compelled to just stick the boot in over and over again.

I think a few of the moaning posters on here are projecting their own insecurities about ageing. It's clear you were just sharing an anecdote and didn't mean any harm but unfortunately some people will take offence to anything.

FWIW, my gran definitely wouldn't have got the joke. There's a poster on here that didn't get the "Lady Gardener" reference upthread so I don't believe for a second that OF COURSE the lady knew exactly what she was buying.

Amberjane41 · 28/10/2023 08:06

Why because everyone didn’t ‘laugh’ at your story! Chill out. Not everyone finds the same things funny. Sorry I agree, calling someone a little old lady and implying their an idiot isn’t funny. Like these memes of ‘old ladies’ enjoying watching rock bands you see and people commenting ‘this will be me when I’m old’ Why can’t women enjoy going to a rock concert without being photographed and having people go ‘awwww’ at them. If they are going to see Iron Maiden or someone like that they are probably younger than the band is!!!

LaMarschallin · 28/10/2023 07:21

Ah, well...
OP said she was going out to drown her sorrows.
Sounds like (to quote Bridget Jones) her sorrows are coming up for the third time.

Trouble is, ageist comments aren't funny. Pointing that out doesn't make someone a 'bore'

Totally agree. I have a few years under my belt and it pisses me off that youngsters think I'm a bit dim because I'm elderly.

The Uranus thing I laughed at when I was around 5 or 6 years old.
It's sort of worn off now.
