To think having XL bullies around children is child neglect?

To think that parents who have XL Bullies in the house with children should be investigated for child neglect. Its the same as leaving a child with a loaded gun to play with. What the hell is wrong with people that are willing to take this chance with their children’s lives?

A dog who is properly socialised and accustomed to a wide range of people, other animals, noises, and environmental factors will not randomly take a dislike to someone for no reason nor is it likely to become fearful to the point where its fight or flight instinct kicks in.

If you have a dog who does this it is not yet fully socialised and you need to contact an APBC registered behaviourist.

They’re sentient breathing animals. Of course they can take a dislike to a person or situation! It’s like learning to drive, random situations arise!! Do you not think even a dog that’s been trained to the nth degree (probably only about two percent of dogs in my opinion, contrary to people irl and on mn who all have perfect dogs who do exactly what they want a hundred percent of the time) can’t possibly fully know how to react to everything that comes up? Our puppy has been going to dspca dog training classes since he was old enough and I read a lotttt of dog books but I’m not a trainer and while he’s pretty amazing and looks trained etc I’m under no illusions if something happened when we were out (eg the other week a group of men started fighting on the street and he had no idea what was going on!!!) I can’t 100% or even 50% be sure of what he’d do!

@XenoBitch i tell you something else, that video has prompted me to find out and advise my kids in what to do if they are ever attacked by one of these to give them the best shot at surviving.
your horror really needs to be directed to the right place which should rightly be towards these dogs and their shitty owners.

Honestly the only way to stop this type of attack in the vast majority of cases is to kill the dog.

Do what you have to do to defend yourself....

Eaglemom I'm sorry you felt drawn to watch something so horrific. As I said, I can only imagine and that is nightmare-inducing enough. I would suggest, though, that seeking counseling would be a better use of your time than posting internet threads encouraging others to similarly traumatise themselves.

Bizarre! @Eaglemom already said they wished they never watched the video but the fact is whether you’ve watched it or not - and I haven’t - it still happened. And yet some posters seem completely focused on the fact somebody watched it l rather than fact it happened?

I think someone on this thread posted that they had the misfortune to witness this horrific brutal act in person. Have all those who keep going on about the OP shouldn’t have watched the video commented on the trauma this poster would have suffered?

Spare the faux concern for Op, who chose to watch the video, and focus on the greater matter at hand of a dog actually brutalising a human to death!

Perhaps the family have asked people not to watch it but they would much rather it didn’t happen again, and I’m sure they are more horrified by the death of their child/brother to the hands of one of these dogs than the fact that people are watching it.

I never watch those gruesome police brutality videos out of respect for the victims, and for my own mental health but I’m not going to go on and on about people watching the video without addressing the issue that police brutality shouldn’t happen to begin with. That is what you call derailing and deflecting and it’s shameful.

The thread didn’t take a dark turn it was ALWAYS dark because the subject matter is selfish irresponsible people who unnecessarily subject their children to dogs that have a track record of killing and can overpower multiple grown men.

I’m the same as you with videos and also agree with what you say

Someone I used to know from school has an XL bully that looks like its muscles have been generated by AI. The thing looks almost fictional its appearance is so intimidating. All over his facebook are photos of his 3 year old holding the dog on its lead whilst the dog stares at the camera broad chested and dead eyed. It’s so uncomfortable to look at I have unfollowed his posts.

I hate those kind of posts. A young child getting licked by a huge scary dog or a newborn baby sleeping beside a bull terrier that kind of thing. And the accompanying waffle about how 'there are no bad dogs only bad owners' and 'I know my dog and she wouldn't hurt a fly' I'm sure the dog has been lovely so far but seriously stop being a soppy fucking idiot about a dog and protect your kid.

Devilsmommy · 23/09/2023 02:32

@Eaglemom I completely agree with you about these dogs. There's just no point arguing with the idiots on here, they just aren't going to change their minds about those cutesy softie dogs😠 I asked someone on another thread also would they still feel the same if it was one of their family members being ripped to bloody shreds? It's a fucking joke the absolute wilful blindness to dogs and aggression. And to have children in the mix makes me want to puke

BabyFireflyx · 23/09/2023 02:17

I see social media posts from people I know very often showing their dogs in close contact with their tiny newborn babies, slightly older babies, toddlers and young kids. I cringe every time.
There's silly old me who kept my cats from ever being too close or left in the same room as my DD from newborn to around 7 years old. Not one incident.
She's 11 now and our 7 cats adore her. They all come running when she gets home from school.
I have ferrets, highly trained by me. DD is now 11 and I wont leave her unattended with them because I'm very aware that they are used to me and know their boundaries with me, they wouldn't hesitate to bite hard and cling on with someone they're not used to being around. I keep them separated because ferrets are not a pet for kids. They are however very loving when bonded and I adore them. But it's not hard to put a boundary between pets who could hurt a child.

As for BSL, we will have to agree to disagree. Banning pit bulls has not done anything to reduce the number of dog attacks, I highly doubt that adding another "type" of dog to an already ineffective law will help matters at all. This thread has taken a very dark turn, imo, so I'm out. I truly hope you get the support you need to overcome what you witnessed.

@stuggling5939 it makes me die a little inside also when I see babies and kids near these things.
The arguments that it’s the owners not the dogs... It’s infuriating when people debate if it’s the dogs nature or the owners, clearly both are at play... but I don’t care.. whoever is at fault these dogs need to be wiped out because of their aptitude for aggression and also for the fact that the constant fall into the hands of irresponsible owners. All that I care about is that the end result is stopped.

Exactly, I don’t understand that argument at all - it’s a bit like the ones who say people kill guns don’t.

The fact is dogs, like gun, find themselves into the homes and hands of a wide range of people. A significant amount of those people will use them for harm be it through neglect or deliberate misuse. So it’s better for anyone not to have these kind of breeds that are killing disproportionately.

I really don’t care if it’s the dog or owner you blame for an attack, I just want laws that prevent these attacks happening in the first place . Not laws that purely focus on allocating blame after they happen.

I do feel people are just deflecting and derailing when they go on about “it’s the owner” since we can’t make sure all dogs have perfect owners there needs to be laws regarding muzzling, leads and owning breeds that are far stronger than you.

Eaglemom · 23/09/2023 01:49

@ItWillWash you are right. I truly wish I’d never come across that footage, it’s probably the worst thing I’ve ever seen and much worse than that, the family didn’t want it out there. As I said I didn’t go looking for it, it was out in my face, and I truly regret standing there in horror for those few seconds and I am truly sorry to the family and their wishes come first, but I will never accept that any reaction to the reality is too extreme.
As I said, if anything the overall reaction to this truth is nowhere near extreme enough. I shall never trust or regret wanting these dogs wiped out..they and their owners have demonised them of their own accord, and I very much hope that not your, mine or anyone else’s family members find themselves in the jaws of one of these as they innocently go about their daily business.
I just cannot understand anybody not taking this seriously enough. I regret saying that those who disagree should see the video, I just wish there was a way for them to wake up to the reality of what these dogs do.
please please keep your kids away from these dangerous dogs. You cannot trust them.
RIP to Ian, nobody deserves that.

@beeswaxinc OP is encouraging people to watch the death of a man whose family has explicitly asked the public not to do so. That is beyond sick. It's no longer anything to do with dog breeds. It's a matter of basic human decency.

beeswaxinc · 23/09/2023 01:43

ItWillWash · 23/09/2023 01:30

@Eaglemom

I've not watched the footage but having studied wolves and other Canidae I can only imagine how horrifying that footage is however the victim's family has explicitly requested that the video is not shared or viewed by the general public.

What makes you think that your desire to have this type of dog demonised even more than it has already has been by people who, at the end of the day, have precisely zero impact on the current laws, trumps the family's right to privacy, dignity or respect?

This is is a complete straw man argument, whether footage of an attack is viewed or not does not change the reality of the situation or the validity of of the discussion.

beeswaxinc · 23/09/2023 01:41

I'm confused about people seemingly stating that XL bully type dogs have "only" caused around 50% of the recorded dog deaths over the last couple of years...

Given the number of dog breeds in existence, for 50% of deaths to come from 1 single breed/type shows a clear problem.

And what are the statistics on attacks overall vs deaths?

The family have begged people not to watch it or share it. Sorry you had such a visceral reaction to watching it, but you brought that on yourself... and I can't help but feel your extreme reaction to it is why you are being very vocal about the dogs... even having a go at someone who does not think they are "ugly".

Yes but I’ve been horrified by these dogs for a long time. Ever since my friend for some ridiculous reason thought she’d have one as a family pet she’s since been
messaging me how much it’s destroying her life.
I am not sure how reacting in horror to the actual true reality of what these dogs have done is an extreme reaction? If anything others have not have reacted enough. You truly cannot react extremely enough to the true horror of what those dogs did and the same scenario has played out far too many times.
But please can you explain to me what the limit of horror should be even when just being given the verbal details of these attacks? Am I being silly and should I just get over it? Should the victims family? Should it just be shrugged off after a day? Or two? What do you think as you are the expert apparently on the limits of reaction? What is extreme about not wanting these things on the street and being capable of killing more people I do not know or my family or kids?

I'm not disagreeing with you about XL bulldogs, but re it barking...from what I understand, dogs can sense a change in hormones when epileptic fits etc are about to happen which is why dogs are trained as assistant dogs. So it could well have been that! Or just something else instead that caused it to bark!

Yeah that’s done absolutely sod all to think its all worth it then. No. The dog barked because it heard something. That’s what they do. Doesn’t go any way near cancelling out the death toll sorry

Yes it’s truly horrific and I’ve had actual nightmares and panic attacks since, I wish I’d never seen it,hence this whole post, it is truly the worst thing I’ve ever seen and I’m a nurse, but doesn’t it say something when a video horrifies people more than the fact that a man has lost his life? So British to sweep things under the carpet. I’m sure it suits many to imagine it was a quick and unfortunate death but sorry to burst your safe little bubbles... it was anything but, and if anything should bring real change. The mere fact of “knowing” about previous child and adult deaths at the jaws of these dogs has done nothing.

@truthhurts23 for gods sake... just look at these bloody things. Of course it’s the dogs! They are bred to be aggressive, they are absolutely massive and pure muscle and jaws that can and will kill you in seconds. Just stop this crap. Put them next to a poodle and see which you’d bet your life on being safe with.
my friend has had one since a puppy and she’s been battling with it’s ferocious nature since day one.
Yes the owners are at fault too... obviously are certain types of people who are attracted to these
Kinds of dogs...I mean what sort of decent person would choose one of these over all
The other breeds on offer?
Aggressive natured, strong Massive dogs and shitty owners is a horrifically dangerous mix.

Absolute BS.

truthhurts23 · 23/09/2023 00:51

Its not the dogs, its the owners that the problem
I got bitten by a mean little yorkie, for no reason it was really aggressive
but i've never felt unsafe around rottweilers or pitbulls they are the sweetest dogs
they need to introduce some sort of dog license where owners are trained and have to pass a test to own a dog,
plus prove they can care for the dog properly
and if their dogs attack anyone, the owner should serve jail time

Eaglemom · 23/09/2023 00:49

I despair for humanity too... that fuck all has been done while these dogs have killed over and over again.

OP posts:

That video depicts the harrowing final moments of a man, a real-life human being's, final moments. The final moments, which sadly, had to be witnessed first-hand, by his mother.

Unless his family requests so, which they have done the opposite, basic respect and human decency should dictate that we avoid watching this at all costs.

I despair for humanity. I really, really do and it is not because of the other sentient beings we chose to brutalise for our means.

Eaglemom · 23/09/2023 00:46

ItWillWash · 23/09/2023 00:39

I'd argue that encouraging people, any people, to view such a horrific video, even in the face of surviving family members asking people not to do so, is far more sickening than owning any type of dog.

Please, for the love of all things good and holy, do not look up that video, for any reason. The people who recorded and uploaded it should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, imo.
